Riva Yachts has partnered with Exteta, an Italian outdoor furniture manufacturer, to create the co-branded Exteta x Riva collection of seating, upholstered furniture, tables and more.

Materials and design elements used throughout the collection are exactly what aficionados of the Italian boats have come to expect: sapele mahogany, stainless steel, sculptural design, generous padding and an illusion of weightlessness.

Two different armrests allow for versatility: padded with a slightly curved shape, or wood with a wide, elongated shape reminiscent of a Riva yacht.

Note the level of table gloss in the photograph at left, also a nod to the kind of craftsmanship for which Riva’s vessels have long been known. The wireless stainless-steel lamp is designed to add subtle lighting either on board or in a home on land.

This collection of outdoor furnishings arrives after years of Riva working to extend its brand into everything from clothing and accessories to collectors’ items like humidors and backgammon sets, all available online in the Riva Boutique. With every new element that Riva lends its brand name to, the combination of design and heritage is evident, even in the company’s toy Aquariva and Aquarama model boats for kids.

The idea, the company says, is to inject the allure of yachting into other worlds, such as interior design. It’s a true thing of beauty to see how successful this vision has been and to imagine what might come next.

Massimo Castagna

Award-winning designer Massimo Castagna penned the Exteta x Riva collection. Castagna is the Milan-educated founder of AD architecture studio, and he has collaborated with Acerbis International, Ceccotti Collezioni, Exteta, Gallotti&Radice, Giorgetti, Henge, knIndustrie, Minotti armchairs and sofas, Rossana Cucine and more. His products are exhibited in museums from London to New York City.

Rogue Wave Footwear from Huk https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/gear/rogue-wave-footwear-from-huk/ Wed, 02 Jul 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=70575 Huk expands its Rogue Wave line of nonslip footwear for men and women to wear on board the boat and well beyond.

Odds are good you’ve made a special nonslip shoe when country-music crooners are just as eager to buy it as Florida Keys fishermen.

That’s what is happening with the Rogue Wave line from Huk—which is pronounced hook, if you want to sound like the cool kids out there. The South Carolina-based company launched its Rogue Wave line in 2020, and its 6-inch boot remains popular today. Huk just added a lower-profile men’s shoe and a women’s clog, in response to customers from warmer cruising grounds in Florida and the Bahamas, with the company’s Grip-X Slice outsole for traction on fiberglass boats.

Skippers, though, aren’t the only ones who’ve found this footwear. Scott Smith, Huk’s vice president of marketing, says a country-music artist recently spoke on a podcast about doing a sound check in the rain, and he said, “Buddy, these boots ain’t slippin’.” Now the country-music crowd is clamoring to buy them too, as are guys in the pressure-washing business, who are ordering them by the case. “It provides the grip,” Smith says. “It provides the protection they need to do their job.”

The traction in that Grip-X Slice outsole comes from a grid pattern. “Each little pod is a 360-degree traction control,” Smith says. “No matter whether you’re going forward, sideways or backwards, it will rotate with you and really lock you into that fiberglass hull.”

On the men’s shoe, there’s also an 8 mm neoprene kick plate. It flexes down to slide a foot in, then pulls up.

“We talked to a bunch of guys we work with, and one of them was telling me how nice it is to just slip into it when he gets into the truck and heads down to the dock,” Smith says. “Then when he gets to the boat, he pulls it up for stability.”

The whole Rogue Wave line, Smith adds, is meant to handle all kinds of action around the water: “We use a really pliable proprietary rubber. That’s one of the things that makes our boot different. It moves better as you move, without giving up durability.”

Six New Sunglass Options For Boaters https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/gear/six-new-sunglass-options-for-boaters/ Mon, 16 Jun 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=70340 Review the latest performance eyewear from Hobie, Costa, Bajio, Vallon and Skeleton Optics.

Full wrap. Thin temples. Arched brow. Integrated side shields. Vented adjustable nose pads. Bioacetate frames. Recycled fishing-net frames. Upcycled plastic frames. Tri-Pel lens coating. Bio-based polarized lenses. Sports hinges. Spring hinges.

The list could go on for pages when describing all the features and options available these days for buying sunglasses—with styles now also being made not just for use on the water, but in particular for use on fresh or salt water, and during inland or offshore boating and fishing.

Some brands are going so far as to get species-specific when describing new sunglasses options. Bajio, in announcing its Zapata style, told this story: “This frame was named after the Zapata swamp in Cuba. Felipe, a local legend, lives there, teaching kids to fly-fish in the streets. This swamp is infested with permit, bonefish, snook, tarpon, snapper and barracuda. They are keen to eat anything in front of them, so we made a frame you can feed them in.”

Polarized lenses and ultraviolet protection are standard features in performance eyewear these days, as are hydrophobic and oleophobic lens coatings that repel water, sunscreen and more out on the boat and back at the beach. At the same time, there really are differences between, say, needing the best lens and frame shape for spotting fish in the shallows, and needing the best glare protection at high noon on a flybridge slathered in bright-white gelcoat.

It’s the basics plus the nuances that create a great pair of sunglasses for any activity—all the more reason to have multiple pairs on board.

Water toys today offer more options than a Starbucks coffee menu to accommodate a wide spectrum of interests and activity levels.

For those who prefer to relax and lounge casually, there are cozy, covered and open float designs available.

If being more physical is your thing, perhaps a round of virtual golf off the swim platform, cruising on a custom stand-up paddleboard, skating atop the sea on an electric surfboard or diving beneath the surface with an underwater scooter is the move.

For those seeking to take their underwater fun even further, how about a personal submarine that can travel to depths of 600-plus feet?

Then again, why choose?

SeaDriveCX

SeaDriveCX / Golf Entertainment

Sitting on the hook in Saint-Tropez, but want to play 18 holes in Pebble Beach or just work on your driving and putting skills? Enter the SeaDriveCX. Built for superyachts, this virtual-golf system is constructed with F1-grade carbon fiber for durability. The unit comes in a selection of colors and finishes, can be set up for lefties or righties, and has an easy-to-see display. Some of its data-capture features include ball speed, distance, launch angle and side spin. Club data is also captured, including head speed, angle of attack and more. There are myriad options ranging from biodegradable golf balls to gloves, golf bags and mats.

Considering an underwater wedding with a few friends or a round of Texas Hold ’em at a custom poker table several hundred feet down? The nine-seat Triton 660/9 AVA—built for eight guests and a pilot—has a flexible, entertainment-centric layout that can do the above and more while below, even formal dining. Owners can choose how to outfit the interior, which is possible because of the 660/9 AVA’s single free-form acrylic pressure hull. The 660/9 AVA’s volume is about three times greater than personal subs with multi-hull designs. The 660/9 AVA travels at about 3 knots for up to 12 hours. Maximum depth is 660 feet.

The board’s drivetrain (the battery and jet system) fits into the frame and is held in place by a locking mechanism. It is modular and requires no tools to assemble, and it has more than 50 sensors and microprocessors powered by an always-on mobile network connection, making for easy setup, transportation and service nearly anywhere that a yacht drops its hook.

Ready. Set. Relax. While the kids are diving, swimming and paddling, the FunAir Shaded Oasis lets the adults enjoy some serious downtime. FunAir collaborated with Deck Tent to create the Oasis’ Bimini top, which can be removed if sunbathing is on the agenda. According to FunAir, it takes around 15 minutes to inflate the Shaded Oasis, which can be secured to the boat, the dock or even the beach. It accommodates as many as eight guests with access via the company’s SeaStairs. The Shaded Oasis has an inflatable coffee table as well as a netted area that lets guests enjoy the water without encountering the local wildlife.

This scooter has technological construction innovations, starting with its titanium, magnesium and ceramic coatings. It has a digital, thumb-operated accelerator to adjust the variable engine power while a sensor allows the rider to switch between normal and dive modes. For a more active ride, riders can select sports mode and feel the rush of maximum engine power. The wing system on the F9S’ jet nozzle and the rear side wings work together to create a stabilizing effect.

A carbon-fiber paddle with a telescopic handle is included.

Boaters love their water toys and the Sublue Vapor is a stowable underwater scooter that reportedly runs as well as it glides, and offers extended range for divers.

The Vapor uses pump-jet technology with ALO 2.0 (Active Loop Optimization) and has a 6-blade impeller and 12-blade rear guide vane. This design converts torque into thrust, producing up to a reported 46 pounds of force and speeds up to 6 mph. Measuring a tidy 22 by 13 inches, and weighing 20.9 pounds, the Vapor is easy to stow onboard.

Users can choose from three speed settings: 3.7 mph, 4.9 mph and 6 mph. The scooter runs on a removable 13000mAh battery offering varying runtimes: 45 minutes at the lowest speed, 30 minutes at medium speed and 18 minutes at maximum speed. Charging the Vapor takes about 3 hours, or just 1.5 hours with an optional fast charger.

Safety features include a customizable depth alert system and a depth change rate alert, which helps prevent rapid ascents or descents that could lead to injury. These alerts help ensure safe diving practices.

The Sublue Vapor pairs to smartphones via a dedicated app, allowing users to share dive data such as depth, temperature and location. This app connectivity also helps maintain a link to the surface.

Its design focuses on hydrodynamic efficiency, with a sleek body design and buoyancy chamber to reduce water resistance, making it easier for users to navigate with minimal effort.

The combination of variable-speed propulsion, intuitive controls and safety features makes the Vapor a versatile, fun water toy to have in the boating arsenal.

With its emphasis on user control, safety and connectivity, the Sublue Vapor is worth a closer look on or off the water.

SeaNXT’s Elite is the world’s first carbon-fiber underwater scooter. Elite scooters ($13,000) come in black, blue, green, gold or red, and are driven by twin 4.4-kilowatt electric motors with enclosed propellers. The motors offer four operating modes—Shark, Sport, Cruise and Eco—that deliver top speeds of 11.3 knots. Depending on the mode, the 24-amp-hour lithium-ion battery yields run times of 27 minutes to two-plus hours. The scooters have a 5.5-inch LCD screen for offline navigation and LED bow lights; they also have 6.6 pounds of positive buoyancy, and the modular design allows them to be serviced out in the field.

The biggest challenges faced when creating the Elite scooters were finding the balance among weight, speed and autonomy, as well as blending in technology. The solution required repeated sea trials to ensure that the scooters performed up to expectations.

The Specs

SeaNXT Elite scooters weigh about 50 pounds and can operate at depths down to 130 feet. Elite scooters ship with a 10-amp charger, which has a recharge time of about two hours. However, users can add SeaNXT’s Elite Variable Charger ($845), which has an adjustable output of 1 to 15 amps. For safety, the scooters come with fireproof aluminum cases.

Riva’s Yacht Speakers https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/gear/riva-yacht-speakers/ Tue, 06 May 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=69688 Riva has teamed up with Bang & Olufsen to immerse the world of sound in Italian yachting style.

Mahogany, maple and aluminum are materials more typically associated with shipyards than with speaker manufacturers. Many of today’s portable speakers are plastic cubes and torpedo shapes that, when displayed on shelves, look about as artistic and distinctive as rows of water bottles at a roadside convenience store. Sure, they’ll blast out everyone’s favorite tunes, but they don’t always look or sound good doing it. For many brands, the idea of upscale materials being incorporated into the designs seems almost laughable.

Riva Beosound 2
This speaker is intended for use in rooms 100 to 600 square feet. It has Bluetooth and remote controls, and can be used via the Bang & Olufsen app. Lorusso Nicola

But that is not the case with Riva. The Italian yacht builder—which has made forays into everything from home furnishings to fashion in recent years—joined forces with the high-end audio company Bang & Olufsen to create these speakers that echo the characteristics of Riva’s yachts.

Beosound A5 Riva Edition
The Beosound A5 Riva Edition ($2,400) is wrapped in mahogany and maple. Lorusso Nicola

The idea is to combine each brand’s expertise to create portable works of art with excellent sound quality. The Beosound A5, for instance, is finished at Bang & Olufsen’s factory in Denmark, with the wooden cover made by Riva’s team in Sarnico, Italy. The result is 360-degree sound dispersion with RoomSense adaptable playback, all wrapped in the kind of looks that are right at home on the Riviera.

The handle on this water-resistant speaker makes it portable to and from the boat, out to the pool or into any room at home. It will play for more than 12 hours before needing to be recharged. Lorusso Nicola

“Elegant and powerful, the products created between Bang & Olufsen and Riva are unique works of art to listen to and experience, with every detail reflecting the perfection that only two iconic brands can achieve,” according to the companies. “From high-performance yachts to high-fidelity speakers, every element has been designed with purpose, power and polish.”

Beau Lake Paddleboards https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/gear/beau-lake-paddleboards/ Thu, 24 Apr 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=69484 Paul Lavoie and the team at Beau Lake thinks stand-up paddleboards should be just as beautiful as everything else on board.

The post Beau Lake Paddleboards appeared first on Yachting.

]]>
Beau Lake Paddleboard
The Rapid ($5,100) is built from carbon fiber with a macassar wood veneer. Courtesy Beau Lake

Grotesque. That’s what Paul Lavoie thought as he sat outside a cabin in the Canadian mountains, sipping a coffee and watching the loons. “I was enjoying nature when this pedal boat goes by,” he recalls. “This yellow-and-blue plastic thing that looked like Tupperware.”

His aesthetic sensibilities sufficiently jarred, he began a search for a classic wood version, one more like his 42-foot Matthews Grace that was built in 1958. None existed, so he built one under the name Beau Lake—which he invented because beau means beautiful in French, and it sounded good.

The first pedal-boat model sold out. The company also sold out its St. Tropez pedal boat ($18,500) and electric 14-foot boat ($45,000) with vintage styling.

Then Lavoie got to thinking that water toys are ugly too. “Why do you spend so much money on your boat, and then for some of these accessories, it’s just bad buying,” he says. “Why can’t everything—the Bimini, the steps, the paddleboard—be beautiful?”

Hence, the Beau Lake series of stand-up paddleboards. They come in various shapes and sizes, solid or inflatable. Most of the solid boards are made with EVA foam under wood veneers, with The Rapid model built in carbon fiber and veneer. Each of those boards takes about a week to build. Paddles can be wood, which he says looks nicer, or carbon, which is adjustable.
