Numarine has launched the second hull in its 30XP series, a 98-foot explorer yacht equipped with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion. Like its sistership Minella, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2024, the new 30XP offers an efficient, low-noise cruising experience with a range of 3,500 nautical miles at 8 knots. Unlike Minella though, this hull sports a more traditional white exterior and a revised interior palette in light tones and dark accents.

Designed by Can Yalman, the raised-pilothouse yacht balances performance and comfort with a focus on space and sea connection. The yacht’s 213-gross-ton volume is used to great effect, especially in areas like the semi-open beach club, where fold-down platforms expand the deck space to 46 square meters. A portside tender garage houses a 5.65-meter diesel tender, while the raised deck overhead creates a unique lounging area just steps from the water.

The flybridge features space for a wet bar and multiple social zones, and the foredeck is fitted with a broad sun pad. Inside, full-height windows flood the salon with natural light, and the master suite is located forward on the main deck for enhanced views and privacy. Below, four en suite guest staterooms offer generous accommodation.

The hybrid system consists of twin electric motors powered by four 108-kW diesel generators, delivering a top speed of 13 knots and notable efficiency at low speeds. Sound levels in the guest cabins remain below 40 decibels underway—quieter than a soft rain—thanks to acoustic design by Silent Line. Optional solar panels, eco-friendly materials and onboard waste management systems further support the builder’s sustainability goals.

As part of a seven-model fleet ranging from 22 to 47 meters, the 30XP fills a niche for owners seeking an efficient, go-anywhere superyacht with serious cruising credentials and a whisper-quiet onboard experience.

Alia Yachts has delivered Limerence, a new 53-meter custom yacht designed to blur the lines between support vessel and standalone superyacht. Built in collaboration with Azure Yacht Design and interior stylists CT Mimarlık, the new yacht combines long-range operational capability with an impressive lifestyle offering, an approach that reflects both the owner’s adventurous brief and Alia’s full-custom capabilities.

Originally conceived as a rugged toy carrier, Limerence evolved throughout the design process into something far more versatile. The yacht retains the storage and technical features typical of a support vessel, but layers in the finishes, spaces and amenities expected of a luxury superyacht. The result is a hybrid platform that can accompany a mothership or operate entirely on its own.

“It’s the special genius of this design that Limerence is at once a hugely capable standalone superyacht and a peerless support vessel brimming with toys and amenities,” said Alia Yachts president Gökhan Çelik.

Exterior styling makes a strong statement with sculpted blue topsides and dark glazing, framed by an explorer-style bow and a substantial aft deck. The yacht’s most prominent feature is its fully certified commercial helideck, capable of accommodating aircraft like the Bell 429 or Airbus H145. The deck includes an integrated refueling system for extended sorties without returning to port.

Limerence’s heli setup offers uncommon flexibility for charters and exploration, according to Caroline Antlett of Christie Yachts: “With full commercial approval and refueling capacity for multiple sorties, it unlocks completely new charter itineraries—from alpine drops to hidden jungle airstrips.”

Below the helideck lies a garage outfitted for high-octane pursuits. The yacht carries four tenders, including a custom Wajer 38S and a 12.5-meter X-Tender, along with a Ski Nautique GS20 and a rescue RIB. The equipment list continues with jet skis, Seabobs, foil boards, diving and spearfishing gear, kite and windsurfing kits, e-bikes, two sailing catamarans and more. While a submersible is not currently carried, the yacht is rated to accommodate a 7-person unit.

The helipad converts into a multi-use sports court enclosed by netting—supporting basketball, volleyball and more. Additional setups include a golf driving range and laser clay shooting.

Despite its technical scope, Limerence is far from utilitarian inside. The interior, created by Istanbul-based CT Mimarlık with Alia’s in-house team, evokes a modern boutique hotel. A palette of natural textures, clean lines, and understated tones offers a relaxed, luxurious atmosphere.

The yacht accommodates guests in three large ensuite staterooms, including a full-beam owner’s suite with convertible lounge area. Two guest cabins offer twin or double configurations, and all feature marble bathrooms with double vanities.

On the bridge deck, a light-filled salon connects to al fresco dining, while the main deck prioritizes utility with a water sports prep room. The beach club becomes a dining terrace after dark, and the helideck shifts into a cinema or open-air nightclub with professional-grade lighting, DJ gear, and AV systems.

Delivered earlier this year, Limerence is now available for charter through Christie Yachts. Summer itineraries include France, Italy, Croatia, and Greece, with winter availability in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and potentially Costa Rica.“Whether as a support vessel with the aesthetic and comfort of a superyacht, or as a standalone adventure platform,” said Çelik, “Limerence is proof of what a full-custom shipyard can achieve.”

The superyacht is the result of a collaboration between Heesen, the owner’s team and designer Cristiano Gatto, who worked with the owner to create bespoke furniture for Orion. Gatto and his team, working alongside Heesen’s engineers and craftspeople, also developed a contemporary interior using more than 37 different materials, including Italian marble, high-gloss woods and woven leather, according to the builder.

“The delivery of Orion is a moment of great pride for everyone at Heesen,” stated Ruud van der Stroom, Heesen’s Chief Commercial Officer in a press release. “This yacht perfectly encapsulates our DNA: precision Dutch engineering, innovative hybrid technology, and the ability to deliver a high-quality product through dedicated collaboration with owners, designers and our team of experts.”

Constructed from lightweight aluminium with the Fast Displacement Hull Form developed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects and engineered by Heesen’s in-house team, Orion is powered by two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines. This setup enables a reported top speed of 16.3 knots and a transatlantic range of 3,750 nautical miles at 12 knots, consuming only 25.9 gallons per hour (excluding hotel loads). In hybrid mode at 10 knots, consumption drops to a miserly 11.9 gph.

With a 7-foot draft, Orion is well suited for a wide array of cruising grounds from the Bahamas to the Mediterranean. The superyacht has a vertical bow and sole-to-ceiling windows that bring in an abundance of natural light, a key component of Frank Laupman of Omega Architects’ exterior design. The 499 GT interior accommodates 12 guests across six staterooms, including a main-deck owner’s stateroom and a full-beam VIP suite.

Peter van der Zanden, head of engineering at Heesen Yachts, emphasized the technical achievements: “Our expertise in lightweight aluminium construction, combined with the efficiency of the Fast Displacement Hull Form and the advanced hybrid propulsion system make Orion an exceptional yacht. This synergy doesn’t just result in reduced environmental impact and enhanced longevity for the yacht’s components; it delivers an unparalleled experience for the owners.”

Orion will join Ocean Independence’s charter fleet, offering select charter opportunities.

Volvo Penta’s hybrid-electric package is a drive system that spans from helm to propeller, harnessing multiple inline diesel engines and electric motors plus battery banks to transition between three propulsion modes: electric, hybrid and hybrid boost. The system is designed for 56- to 98-foot yachts. It can be spec’d to spin contra-rotating propellers of two, three or four IPS drives. In crossover mode, one engine propels two drives. The system is expected to be available in late 2025.

“Each step of the [development] process presents unique challenges, from optimizing performance and efficiency to ensuring reliability and safety in diverse marine environments,” says Johan Inden, president of marine business, about the challenges Volvo Penta faced when designing this system. The solution, he says, “involves rigorous testing across various phases to ensure the product meets the highest standards.”

Mission Control

Yacht owners access the helm-to-propeller hybrid-electric package via Volvo Penta’s electronic vessel control system, which runs on a Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit multifunction display. Skippers can enable assisted docking, joystick docking, joystick driving, low-speed operations and the Dynamic Positioning System while operating in electric or hybrid modes.

Comprehensive Review: Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/azimut-seadeck-6-reviewed/ Fri, 22 Nov 2024 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=67259 The first model of a luxurious, fast and eco-conscious new lineup hits the water from the renowned Italian builder.

For yacht owners who want to cruise in a more sustainable way, the Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6 offers that option without sacrificing performance and luxury. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

There’s only so much any builder can do to create a sustainable planing yacht with hefty diesel power. Azimut Yachts has achieved more than most with its 57-foot Seadeck 6, the first and smallest model in a range of environmentally minded craft.

The Seadeck concept has a back-to-nature philosophy that includes ethically sourced and recycled materials, and a cleaner, softer aesthetic with the sea as the focus. Put another way, the Seadeck has a “green heart,” according to Giovanna Vitelli, president of the Azimut-Benetti Group and daughter of Paolo Vitelli, who founded Azimut Yachts in 1969. The 72-foot Seadeck 7 is premiering at the Cannes Yachting Festival this autumn, and the 84-foot Seadeck 9 is expected to launch in about 18 months.

Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6
The Seadeck 6’s fan-out, foldout platform is similar in concept to the Oasis Deck on superyachts from Azimut’s sister company, Benetti. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

I caught up with the Seadeck 6 in Venice, Italy. The yacht’s deep-V hull form comes from Italian naval architect Francesco Rogantin’s Names studio. Exteriors are the work of Monaco-based Alberto Mancini, who is evolving Azimut’s full-range DNA. Mancini says the design emphasis for Seadeck models is openness and transparency. Wellness is the focus of the yacht’s interiors, which are from Italy’s Studio Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez.

While the Seadeck 7 and Seadeck 9 have full-hybrid installations—electric motors will be able to propel them—the Seadeck 6 does not have electric motors. It can, however, function in zero-emissions mode for up to eight hours with systems running, including the Seakeeper gyrostabilizer. There are several means of charging the high-voltage 40 kWh Torqeedo battery pack: the Mase generator, the shaft generator on the port engine, two alternators to starboard, and the 1.4 kWp of solar panels on the coachroof.

Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6
The ribbed-oak paneling, white-cream tones and glass create a soft-light sensation throughout the interior. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

The Seadeck series, like all Azimuts, is built with a significant amount of carbon fiber to reduce weight. The hull is 100 percent fiberglass, while around 40 percent of the Seadeck 6’s deck and superstructure is carbon fiber, as are the fold-down quarters and hydraulic platform.

The stern area is a key design element on the Seadeck models. Effectively, it has a three-tiered terrace that connects the cockpit and main-deck interior with the water. The fold-down, fan-out idea is similar to the Oasis Deck concept that has proved successful at Benetti. Azimut calls this functionality Fun Island. On the Seadeck 6, one level is the swim platform, the second level holds the sun pad and fold-down sections, and the third level is the same as the main salon.

Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6
Full-height glazing means unobstructed ocean views from the salon. Headroom is 6 feet, 7 inches. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

Light and airy is an overused phrase, but this yacht’s interior really is both. Sizable windows on all four sides and a sunroof coupled with mostly white-cream lacquers and upholstery bounce light into every corner, softening the natural shadowing. There’s also ribbed oak paneling, which diffuses light and should hold up to wear and tear. Fixed louvers break up the light above the main salon. At night, discreet spotlights and LEDs create softness.

Recycling is not just a token effort with the Seadecks either. Almost a third of the interior makes use of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) instead of PVC. Azimut says each Seadeck 6 uses material from around 15,000 plastic bottles. The optional Econyl carpets are made from recycled plastics, including fishing nets.

In terms of layout, the main salon has a galley aft. Induction hobs are in the worktops, making them effectively invisible, as is just about everything else when it’s not in use. Beyond the amidships lounge with a corner sofa are a square, quad-leaf pedestal table to starboard and a walkway to port. The only area where technical equipment is in open view is the helm console to starboard. It has two Aras bucket seats.

The full-beam owners’ stateroom has an athwartships berth. The carpet is econyl, a recycled nylon. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

Pulling the Seadeck 6 along are either triple 380 hp Volvo Penta D6-IPS500s or 480 hp D6-IPS650s. Azimut quotes maximum speeds up to 33 knots and cruise speeds up to 24 knots.

The Seadeck 6 that I was aboard had the bigger engines and was at a little under half-load. The best speed we saw was 30 to 31 knots with the Seakeeper off and trim assist on. If we manually trimmed, the Seadeck 6 hit just north of 32 knots. At 3,500 rpm and 28 knots, range would be around 310 nautical miles. In the 22-to-27-knot zone, range drops to about 280 nm. At 10 knots, it increases to about 480 nm. Handling is well-mannered and visibility is good, save for the usual blind spot or two aft.

Accommodations belowdecks include three staterooms. The en suite owner’s stateroom is amidships with an inboard-facing double berth to starboard and a sofa to port. A VIP stateroom with an aft-facing double berth is in the bow. Its en suite has a Jack-and-Jill door for guests in the twin-berth stateroom. A single crew cabin is beneath the cockpit sole. Hull No. 1 has this area configured as an electrical systems space.

Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6
Volvo Penta IPS650 diesels give the Seadeck 6 a speed of 30-plus knots. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

For yacht owners who want to cruise in a more sustainable way, the Azimut Yachts Seadeck 6 offers that option without sacrificing performance and luxury.

Water, Water, Everywhere

We got aboard the Seadeck 6 during Salone Nautico Venezia 2024. This event is held at the Arsenale, a historic industrial complex and naval dockyard that mass-produced the ships that made Venice, Italy, a maritime trading superpower centuries ago. Back then, it was the most prosperous city in Europe.

Yes, That’s Cork

Azimut’s Seadeck yachts have cork decks. This is a sustainable, bark-layer material that can be harvested regularly without killing the trees, which are native to southwest Europe and northwest Africa. It is impermeable, fire-retardant, elastic and buoyant, and it does not get as hot as teak in the sun. Durability remains to be seen, but replacement and repairs should be easier and cost-effective. Given that there’s no real grain to match, grafts should be easier to blend as well. It feels soft and warm to walk on.

Hidden Screens

The Seadeck 6’s interior includes discreet TVs. The one in the main salon drops down from the headliner, while those in the staterooms are concealed behind MagicMirrors.

Benetti Yachts in Italy has sold Hull No. 1 of the B.Yond 57M just a few weeks after the model’s official presentation at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

The 187-foot superyacht is the new flagship of the B.Yond line, which also includes a 40M model. The idea of the B.Yond line is to combine eco-friendly technologies and hybrid propulsion with versatile and functional design.

Exterior lines are by Igor Lobanov, with interior styling by Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture. Owners can choose among three stern configurations called Beach, Air and Water.

Hull No. 1 will have the Beach version, with a more than 1,700-square-foot beach area and a 161-square-foot pool. The pool area, too, can be configured in multiple ways because of a sliding sofa system that converts the space into a lounge. The beach area also connects to the convertible garage deck, which can be used as a shaded spot for guest relaxation when all the various water toys are in the water.

“We are proud to announce the sale of the first unit of B.Yond 57M, as this demonstrates the market’s positive reaction to our new projects announced at the end of September at our annual press conference,” Daniela Petrozzi, sales director at Benetti Yachts, stated in a press release. “We are happy to start this new journey with our client.”

Generally speaking with the B.Yond 57M, accommodations are for 10 or 12 guests in five or six staterooms. The yacht is constructed with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.

According to Benetti, range is projected to be 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Draft is 8 feet, 10 inches, with quarters for 13 crew.

What’s eco-friendly about the Benetti B.Yond 57M? The shipyard has committed to achieving zero emissions by 2030 with advancements such as hybrid-electric systems and expanded HVAC systems that reduce consumption by as much as 80% compared to conventional systems. Instead of teak on the decks, Benetti uses EcoDeck, a sustainable and fully recyclable material. Forest Stewardship Council woods, sustainable fabrics, leathers and stones are used for the interior fittings, and water-based paints are employed for the finishes.

Introduced this year at the Venice Boat Show, Azimut Yachts’ Seadeck 6 is the debut model of the builder’s Seadeck Series—its first range of low-emissions yachts. Azimut says the 57-foot express cruiser will reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by as much as 40 percent in one year of average use compared to similar-size yachts.

Azimut builds this model in carbon fiber, a material the builder helped pioneer within the industry. It’s used on 40 percent of the Seadeck 6’s surface, including the deckhouse, roof, wings, swim platform and most of the main deck. The resulting light weight lessens fuel consumption and emissions.

Azimut Seadeck 6
The aft galley layout makes serving the salon and the cockpit easier. Note the louvers overhead. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

The Seadeck 6 also introduces a system Azimut calls Mild Hybrid Zero Emission Hotel Mode, which allows zero emissions at anchor as well as while cruising with the generator off, further reducing fossil-fuel consumption. Azimut says owners can expect four hours of zero-emissions anchoring during the day and eight hours at night, depending on weather conditions. Underway, the builder expects eight hours of stabilizer and air-conditioning operation sans generator.

Alberto Mancini penned the exterior lines for the Seadeck 6. The yacht’s hull is wider at the stern and more streamlined at the bow. When compared to standard planing hulls, this design allows the Seadeck 6 to get on plane sooner, reducing drag at lower speeds and increasing range at peak efficiency while maintaining a smooth ride throughout the rpm range.

Azimut Seadeck 6
The Seadeck 6’s salon has an L-shaped settee and coffee table that are positioned for guests to enjoy uninterrupted vistas via the windows flanking the main deck. Courtesy Azimut Yachts

Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez handled the interior design with a focus on keeping guests connected with their environment. “A boat should be timeless in both a functional and aesthetic sense,” Thun says. “Conscious design is driven by a vision of a more human, natural and sustainable life.” The architects chose to use oak ribbing throughout and brise soleil on the ceiling, elements that create depth, character and a sense of tactile luxury.

The Seadeck 6 has a three-stateroom, two-head layout that accommodates six guests. It also has a crew cabin if owners prefer having a captain, mate or both for extended sojourns.

The yacht offers three propulsion options: one for diesels and two for hybrid drives. With the diesel setup, the 58 Fly Hybrid can have the following twin diesels: 730 hp MAN i6, 850 hp MAN i6, 1,000 hp MAN V-8, 1,000 hp Caterpillar or 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13.

The MAN i6 engine options can be upgraded to a hybrid drive with the 6G H-Drive upgrade. A 6G/HV H-Drive System is also available.

“The H-Drive 6G is Greenline’s most efficient drive yet, with better performance, an improved user interface and groundbreaking low-voltage electric motor,” the release stated. “As a pioneer in the hybrid space, Greenline Yachts has been honing its technology for over 15 years, and the latest iteration allows the Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid to offer an impressive range of 20 nautical miles in silent electric mode with speeds up to 6 knots.”

The 58 Fly Hybrid is designed by naval architect Marco Casali to minimize the appearance of the flybridge while maxing out its usable space. There is a fully equipped helm station as well as room for a smart bar, a six-person dining table and an open deck for loungers or seating.

The main deck aft offers a multifunction space with a square dining table centerpiece, sofas down two sides and loose chairs at the forward end. A short flight of teak-lined steps on each quarter leads down to the six-foot deep swim platform. The foredeck lounge seats three people on cushions ahead of the superstructure’s windows.

The 58 Fly Hybrid’s galley is aft and can be fully opened to the deck outside thanks to its glass door and swing-up window. It’s equipped with fridges, a freezer, an induction cooktop and a dishwasher. The space under the galley sole can be used in a number of ways, from extra food stowage and a built-in washing machine to a technical space.

This eco-cruiser’s salon offers plenty of social space with sofas to starboard and a dinette to port. A designer ceiling light creates a warm homelike glow, reflecting off the natural wood table. Fabrics from recycled fibers, sustainable woods and foam made from recycled PET, help reduce the manufacturing footprint of this yacht.

Three staterooms, including an owners’ suite, can be reached down a broad staircase to a lower-deck lobby. The owners’ stateroom is amidships and fills the full beam, and includes a king-size berth, sofa, vanity table and stowage including a walk-in closet. The sn suite and stateroom are fitted with porcelain ware to contrast with the warm, woody finish and curves of the joinery.

A VIP with a double berth is located at the bow, also with an en suite head. The third stateroom between the two to starboard is flexible and can be configured as a twin for children or a double for friends. An en suite head is included for either.

“Our unique approach to responsible yachting gives owners the option of speed when it matters and optimum efficiency over shorter distances,” said Greenline owner and managing director Vladimir Zinchenko, in the release. “The Greenline 58 Fly Hybrid exemplifies the concept, but it’s also found across all our yachts. Responsible Yachting is a philosophy which has led us to make significant reductions in waste and energy usage at the yard, eliminating paper-based marketing material and recycling as much as we can.”

Riva, an iconic brand that is part of the Ferretti Group, has announced that it plans to build its largest flagship superyacht in its history: the 230-foot Riva 70 Metri.

The Riva 70 Metri will have a steel hull and aluminum superstructure. The shipyard is promising “innovative volumes,” along with “excellent performance and environmental sustainability in the form of the latest-generation hybrid propulsion.” Also part of the plan are heat-recovery technology and a PTO/PTI system, which is a form of hybrid propulsion.

In terms of the design, the company stated in a press release, “Great emphasis was also placed on onboard acoustic comfort, thanks to the use of innovative solutions for reducing noise and vibration levels and improving the stabilization system.”

The owner of Hull No. 1 is an existing Riva customer who worked with the design team to create the Riva 70 Metri. Also part of the collaboration are Officina Italiana Design, the firm founded by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta; the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari; and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

Micheli says the owner of Hull No. 1 was inspired by the Riva 50 Metri.

“Riva 70 Metri promises to set the bar for thrilling experiences in the years to come,” Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi stated in the press release. “She’s a superyacht of timeless beauty that will take the magnificent universe of Riva’s style features and detailing into a new dimension, combining it with cutting-edge navigation and environmental sustainability technology.”

The Riva 70 Metri will be built at the Riva Superyachts Division in Ancona, Italy.

What else is new at the Ferretti Group? At the recent Monaco Yacht Show, the company premiered the wallywind100 Galma—the largest sailing yacht delivered since Wally joined the Ferretti Group—and the Custom Line 50 Asante, which is that brand’s first all-aluminum pleasure vessel. Also on display for the public to check out were the new wallypower50 and the Custom Line Navetta 38. The Ferretti Group also announced that in the first half of the year, its net backlog (the total value of orders for yachts still to deliver, net of revenues already booked) was €785.7 million, while the total was €1.5 billion. “These numbers highlight the financial strength of Ferretti Group and the great confidence shown by the market in an industrial policy focused on new models, innovation and sustainability,” the company reported.
