Numarine has launched the second hull in its 30XP series, a 98-foot explorer yacht equipped with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion. Like its sistership Minella, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2024, the new 30XP offers an efficient, low-noise cruising experience with a range of 3,500 nautical miles at 8 knots. Unlike Minella though, this hull sports a more traditional white exterior and a revised interior palette in light tones and dark accents.

Designed by Can Yalman, the raised-pilothouse yacht balances performance and comfort with a focus on space and sea connection. The yacht’s 213-gross-ton volume is used to great effect, especially in areas like the semi-open beach club, where fold-down platforms expand the deck space to 46 square meters. A portside tender garage houses a 5.65-meter diesel tender, while the raised deck overhead creates a unique lounging area just steps from the water.

The flybridge features space for a wet bar and multiple social zones, and the foredeck is fitted with a broad sun pad. Inside, full-height windows flood the salon with natural light, and the master suite is located forward on the main deck for enhanced views and privacy. Below, four en suite guest staterooms offer generous accommodation.

The hybrid system consists of twin electric motors powered by four 108-kW diesel generators, delivering a top speed of 13 knots and notable efficiency at low speeds. Sound levels in the guest cabins remain below 40 decibels underway—quieter than a soft rain—thanks to acoustic design by Silent Line. Optional solar panels, eco-friendly materials and onboard waste management systems further support the builder’s sustainability goals.

As part of a seven-model fleet ranging from 22 to 47 meters, the 30XP fills a niche for owners seeking an efficient, go-anywhere superyacht with serious cruising credentials and a whisper-quiet onboard experience.

The Turkish yacht builder Numarine has unveiled a new flagship: the 153-foot Numarine 47MXP.

MXP stands for “Mediterranean Explorer.” The idea is to have a yacht with features that inspire today’s growing cadre of clients who are seeking far more adventurous experiences than sitting alongside the dock in St. Barts.

It’s an interesting time for Numarine to introduce this new flagship. Yacht builders in all kinds of size ranges have been reporting that younger clients, in particular, want yachts capable of true exploration. This quest for unusual itineraries is a trend that builds on years’ worth of research showing that many of today’s high-net-worth individuals want to invest in priceless experiences even more so than priceless things.

Numarine 47MXP
Interiors are by Hot Lab with a focus on light woods and a neutral palette aimed at creating a contemporary and comfortable vibe. Courtesy Numarine

The Numarine 47MXP appears well-designed to satisfy this community of experience seekers, giving them a way to cruise just about anywhere in style and comfort. The 47MXP’s range, according to Numarine, is 6,000 nautical miles at 9 knots. That is well beyond transatlantic territory, and it opens up all kinds of possibilities for itineraries that can include off-the-beaten-course destinations without a need to rush back to shore for refueling.

Speed is also important with this kind of cruising, especially for the capability to outrun foul weather in remote destinations that lack shoreside infrastructure. Whereas yachts hugging the coast of the Mediterranean have numerous options to pull into a marina and avoid a storm, yachts off exploring the more remote archipelagos of the South Pacific have to be more self-sufficient with different capabilities.

Numarine 47MXP
The superyacht has six guest staterooms, including a main-deck owners’ space with a private terrace and full-height glass for panoramic views. Courtesy Numarine

To that end, the Numarine 47MXP is equipped with twin MAN 1,450 hp engines that provide a reported top speed of 16 knots. That kind of power should give captains plenty of options for dealing with Mother Nature, even when setting a course for more distant horizons.

Cruise speed on the 47MXP is 12 knots, according to the builder. That means today’s more eco-minded cruisers should also be able to achieve some fuel economy without having to sacrifice too much time while cruising between waypoints.

Gross tonnage on the Numarine 47MXP is 498, keeping the yacht below the 500-gross-ton mark that triggers increased regulations and costs of ownership. Within that steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Numarine has worked with the Italian design studio Hot Lab to create an interior that’s described as “warm and elegant.”

Numarine 47MXP
The 47MXP has a bow pool and a beach club with balconies and a second pool (seen here). Courtesy Numarine

Imagery from the shipyard shows a palette of light, natural woods with a neutral and white décor that feels simultaneously contemporary and comfortable. There are six guest staterooms, including the master stateroom on the main deck with a private terrace. Imagery released by Numarine shows this stateroom with a bed facing a nearly full wall of glass for broad views of the outdoors—giving owners the ability to soak in every moment of those truly unforgettable experiences in remote destinations.

Guest areas on the 47MXP: Numarine’s team seems particularly excited about this yacht’s outdoor guest areas, which include a pool on the bow as well as a second pool at the beach club. That beach club area is redesigned from previous models to include balconies, which expand the real estate for watersports, sunbathing and dance parties under the stars. “This enhancement represents a significant step in our philosophy of blending adventure with unparalleled comfort,” Ömer Malaz, chairman of Numarine, stated in a press release.

Ares Yachts in Turkey has revealed a slew of details about its concept for the 177-foot explorer yacht Atlas, a steel-hulled vessel with an aluminum superstructure designed by Hot Lab with naval architecture by Van Oossanen.

The Atlas concept includes a split-level mezzanine bow design. It replaces the conventional foredeck, giving owners direct access from the master stateroom to an outdoor relaxation area with a hot tub. The owner’s space also has a private terrace, allowing further connection with the outdoors at all times.

Guest staterooms have direct access to the beach club aft, with similar indoor-outdoor connections in mind. The space, according to Ares Yachts, is different from typical beach clubs with foldout terraces on both sides and a swim platform area that includes a bar, sun beds and seating.

“The effect of this is a resort-like atmosphere where those on board can move seamlessly between socializing, on-water activities and relaxation,” Enrico Lumini, design director and co-founder of Hot Lab, stated in a press release.

Additional relaxation areas on deck have convertible lounging and dining spaces that can be used for entertaining various groups of guests. There’s also an infinity pool outdoors, with indoor features such as sole-to-ceiling windows for broad views all around the yacht.

A complement of nine crew is housed in five cabins.

The propulsion system on Atlas can be configured with traditional or hybrid systems, with solar panels also on the options list for sustainable cruising. Ares Yachts quotes a projected range of 5,000 nautical miles and a top speed above 16 knots.

The tender garage has a side-launch system for easier exploration in remote areas, and the concept yacht has helipad capability as well. Additional stowage is designated for typical toys such as personal watercraft and paddleboards, along with newer options such as e-foils and submersibles.

What else does Ares Yachts offer? The Turkish shipyard also has the composite 165-foot Spitfire model, created in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects. Projections for that yacht are a maximum speed of 22 knots and a cruising range of 2,200 nautical miles, which extra tankage can increase to 3,500 nautical miles.

Plenty of people order explorer yachts these days, but some owners intend to do more serious exploring than others.

In the case of the Darwin 86 Empire from Cantiere delle Marche, all indications are that the American owner fully intends to stick his bow into some challenging scenarios. Parts of the hull are built with bulletproof steel plates. The yacht has an ice belt at the waterline, along with reinforced rudders for icy conditions. The shipyard also installed what it describes as “a sophisticated anti-intrusion system” to further enhance security.

All of those features help to put the exterior paint job into perspective. It gives Empire the look of a working boat as opposed to a comfortable cruising yacht—which is exactly what the owner and guests have on the inside. Interiors are by Alessandro Massari, with custom-made furniture and pieces from top brands such as Poltrona Frau and Poliform. The master stateroom spans the full beam amidships on the lower deck, with guest space in a VIP and two twin-berth staterooms that are outfitted with Pullmans. Crew quarters for a complement of four are forward on the main deck, connected to the wheelhouse for easy access. On the upper deck, there’s a gym (well-equipped for fitness enthusiasts, according to the shipyard), along with a relaxation area that connects to the outdoor deck.

Cantiere delle Marche says Empire has a top speed of 11.6 knots with a fuel consumption of about 38 gallons per hour. Cruising speed is 10 knots, with a range at that speed of 4,000 nautical miles. Power is a pair of 400 hp Scania engines. The yacht is also equipped with sodium-lithium-chloride batteries for energy efficiency.

Darwin Line: Traditional Explorer Style

Previous launches in the Darwin line include the 102-foot Galego in 2017 and the 102-foot Babbo in 2016. A flagship Darwin 115 is also available from Cantiere delle Marche, with all the models’ exteriors by Hydro Tec. The yard says the flagship model has a range of 5,000 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots, with a top hop of 13 knots.

Expedition yachts get used for all kinds of adventures, by owners who dream of seeing remote parts of the world and of cruising in destinations where few other humans have ever stepped foot. In the case of the Bering 92 Papillon, the idea was to undertake adventurous cruising with a purpose.

Alexei Mikhailov, founder of Bering Yachts, has established partnerships with organizations dedicated to marine conservation. In the Caribbean, they include Yachts for Science and Mission Blue, which involves marine research. Supported by the Government of the Dominican Republic, these organizations conduct research in Silver Bank, a protected breeding and calving area for the North Atlantic humpback whale.

This year, Papillon served as the research base, offering a safe, comfortable and stable platform for researchers and videographers to do their work and document it.

The project marked Bering Yachts’ first involvement in a marine life preservation initiative to give explorer-type yacht ownership a meaningful purpose.

For five days, 13 people from nine nations were aboard Papillon. They engaged in scientific discussions; swam with whales; filmed, photographed and identified individual whales; and collected DNA samples.

Mikhailov participated in the entire expedition. He returned with profound memories and a renewed commitment to continue these activities, according to a press release issued by Bering Yachts.

“The Silver Bank expedition will be the first of many, with plans for future collaborations spanning from the Mediterranean to the Antarctic,” according to the press release. “Several Bering yacht owners have already expressed interest in participating in upcoming projects.”

What makes Bering’s yachts good for research projects? According to the shipyard, key elements include minimal noise and vibration pollution, reduced fuel consumption and alternative energy solutions.

Cantiere delle Marche has delivered the Darwin 86 Empire, which now joins the shipyard’s fleet of 12 Darwins that range from 86 to 112 feet length overall.

“The Darwin Class is still giving us a great satisfaction, confirming the validity of a model that stands the test of time,” Vasco Buonpensiere, co-founder and CEO of Cantiere delle Marche, stated in a press release.

Empire is owned by an American who wanted a custom design that’s capable of long voyages in high-latitude regions. Hydro Tec handled the aesthetics.

The yacht has what Cantiere delle Marche calls an “ice belt” at the waterline, along with a reinforced hull and rudders for icy conditions.

The yacht includes custom-made furniture by Alessandro Massari, Poltrona Frau, and Poliform for understated elegance. Courtesy Cantiere delle Marche

According to what the shipyard described as “a quite unusual request from the owner,” the hull is partially built with bulletproof steel plates, reflecting his intention to navigate remote and challenging seas. Also to enhance security, Empire is protected by what the shipyard calls “a sophisticated anti-intrusion system.” Another unusual feature is a fourth pilot station, located in the engine room.

Interiors are by Alessandro Massari. The owner requested understated elegance, according to the shipyard. Custom-made furniture is included, along with pieces by Poltrona Frau and Poliform.

Empire’s layout includes a full-beam owner’s stateroom located amidships on the lower deck. Adjacent to the master are two guest staterooms with twin berths and Pullmans to accommodate extra guests. Forward on the lower deck is the VIP stateroom.

Quarters for four crew are located forward on the main deck with a substantial crew mess where the team can relax. These quarters are connected to the wheelhouse on the upper deck to ensure efficient communication and crew movement.

For guests, Empire’s main deck has indoor and outdoor spaces for lounging and dining. A bar is on this deck, as is the galley.

On the upper deck, there’s a gymnasium as well as a lounge area that opens onto an outdoor terrace. The wheelhouse is also on this deck with Böning integrated monitoring and control systems.

The sundeck is outfitted with loose furniture and sunbeds.

Power comes from twin Scania engines, each delivering 294 kW. Three generators from Northern Light provide a total of 155 kW of power. The yacht also has sodium-lithium chloride batteries for enhanced energy efficiency.

Let’s talk performance data for the Darwin 86 Empire: According to Cantiere delle Marche, sea trials with the yacht at half load resulted in a top speed of 11.6 knots with a fuel consumption of about 38 gallons per hour. Noise levels were below 40 decibels, which is about the same as the quiet hum of a refrigerator.

Bering Yachts, known for its steel expedition-style trawler yachts, introduced a new flagship B165 explorer yacht at the Dubai International Boat Show.

“She keeps all the ruggedness, stability, range and all-weather capability while representing a Mediterranean and Caribbean approach to life: easygoing, relaxed and full of comfort,” the company stated in a press release. “You are still traveling in your home, but with so much more open space and fresh air that the onboard life becomes a full-circle indoor and outdoor experience.”

The shipyard describes the B165 as “Bering to the bone, but with a luxury twist.” On the main deck’s elongated after section, there’s a swimming pool surrounded by sunbeds. Folding bulwarks can expand this relaxation even more, and the pool can be covered for use as stowage for water toys and other equipment. There’s also space here for two tenders.

Inside on the main deck are dining and lounging areas, along with two VIP staterooms. An additional room at the bow can be outfitted as a guest stateroom, or as an onboard cinema.

The owners’ deck has more than 750 square feet of space, including a sleeping area, a head, and a lounge with a bar, table and seating. An open space aft on the owners’ deck has a table for alfresco dining, while at the bow, there’s a hot tub and a lounge. Crew have access to a private service room for preparing and serving meals, with a dumbwaiter that connects to a similar service area on the main deck, and to the galley on the lower deck.

Also on the lower deck are three guest staterooms, four cabins to accommodate eight crew, and a crew mess. An additional cabin on this deck can be used for supernumeraries such as nannies, guides and masseurs.

Up on the bridge deck, there’s a lounge with a bar, an outdoor cinema, a day head and a firepit. The captain’s quarters are here as well.

Above that deck is a crow’s nest with a hardtop where guests can have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the yacht’s surroundings.

Eco-friendly design is also inherent in the Bering 165, according to company founder Alexei Mikhailov: “We are building responsibly. Designing a large engine room, we definitely had alternative energy solutions in mind. There is plenty of space to accommodate hybrid applications and install a big battery bank.”

Power for the 499-gross-ton vessel will be twin 1,300-horsepower Caterpillar C32 engines, with a reported cruise speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots. Fuel capacity is nearly 18,500 gallons, which the team at Bering says gives the B165 a range of more than 4,000 nautical miles. ABT-Trac systems are installed for guest comfort.

Does the Bering Yachts B165 have a steel hull? Yes, with an aluminum superstructure.

Italian shipyard Cantiere delle Marche, whose specialty is long-range explorer yachts from 85 to 154 feet length overall, has launched Maverick. It’s the first of three Flexplorer 146 yachts that are under construction.

Hull No. 1 is owned by Tom Schroder of FIL Brothers in Austria, whose support for the yard inspired co-founder and CEO Vasco Buonpensiere to state: “This yacht, in addition to its countless intrinsic virtues, holds a special place in our hearts because it belongs to an owner who has known and appreciated us to the point of becoming the major shareholder of our shipyard.”

Maverick has exteriors, naval architecture and engineering by Hydro Tec. The yacht’s interiors are by Francesco Paszkowski with Margherita Casprini.

Accommodations are for as many as 13 guests in seven staterooms, with quarters for six crew. And make no mistake: This is an explorer yacht that is expected to take those owners and guests far, far away from the docks.

The yard says it’s planning to document every leg of an upcoming multiyear journey that the owner plans to undertake around the world, with destinations likely to include Iceland, Greenland and northern Canada. Maverick’s steel hull is built 22 millimeters thick at the waterline to be able to handle the icy waters the yacht will encounter in those locations.

Power is a pair of 1,300-horsepower Caterpillar ACERT diesels that the builder says propel Maverick to a top speed of 14 knots. Range is reportedly trans-Atlantic, with the yacht able to achieve 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots.

Features that suggest how the yacht might be used in some of the planet’s most remote places include a custom A-frame crane that Advanced Mechanical Solutions built from carbon fiber with a lifting capacity of 4 tons. It will launch the tenders—including a custom 31-footer by Valerio Rivellini. The launching system keeps tenders out of the way, creating extra room on board for guest spaces such as a beach club with a gym, sauna and scuba-diving center.

For more guest relaxation (and amazing views), the yacht’s bulwarks fold down, expanding the aft deck into a more than 1,450-square-foot lounging space. There’s a swimming pool at the transom that, when covered, transforms into stowage for deck furniture. Inside, the salon is made to feel bigger with an asymmetrical design that allows crew passage to port but full-beam guest space to starboard. (It’s similar to the asymmetrical design of the Flexplorer 130.)

How long has Cantiere delle Marche been in business? Since 2010. The yard is in Ancona, Italy, a hotbed of yacht construction with many skilled craftspeople.

Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands says it has joined the hull and superstructure on the 180-foot Project Venus, which is for sale with delivery expected in the second quarter of 2025.

Project Venus is part of Heesen’s 55 Steel series. Power is a pair of MTU 4000 M63 engines, with a projected top speed of 15.5 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots. At cruising speed, range is expected to be 4,500 nautical miles, enough for trans-Atlantic cruising.

Luca Dini Design and Architecture is handling interiors on Project Venus. Accommodations are for 12 guests in six staterooms, including a main-deck master that spans more than 880 feet and has a private, starboard-side veranda.

The sundeck encompasses nearly 1,200 square feet with a hot tub, a bar and a lounge area protected beneath a hardtop. Sun loungers are aft. Alfresco dining is one level below on the bridge deck aft, and there’s a beach club off the main deck that includes a sauna, a day-head, a shower and a bar.

Is Project Venus the first time Heesen has worked with Italian designer Luca Dini? Not even close. Project Venus is the fifth collaboration between Heesen and Luca Dini.
