The 2006 130 Westport Tri-Deck Motor Yacht has been an icon in the yachting world for many years. Relentless is an exceptional representation of a Westport, according to the broker, Galati Yacht Sales. This vessel has undergone a major refit and upgrades exceeding $6 million in the past two years. Every area on the boat was looked at carefully for each work item to be performed. This renovation took place at the Trinity Yachts manufacturing facility in Gulfport, Mississippi, and was carefully supervised by an experienced owner, employees, and crew.

From all the new enjoyable and functional outside deck areas, magnificent salon, main deck master suite, guest staterooms, crew quarters, engine room, pilot house, and day heads, there were no areas of this vessel that were left untouched.

With new paint, two new generators, up-to-date MTU maintenance, new teak decks, new décor, new furniture throughout, new marble and custom stone countertops and flooring, updated water maker units, fully cleaned and updated A/C system, updated Naiad Zero Speed stabilizer system, and a seemingly never-ending list of modifications, updates, and upgrades, Relentless is ready for her new owners to entertain and experience cruising anywhere.

The main deck includes a large outside aft deck, large dinette, multiple seating areas and new bar. Moving inside is the salon, formal dining area and easy access to the galley. Moving forward is the stunning master suite and head. On the lower deck you will find two queen guest staterooms and two king VIP guest staterooms. All staterooms have ensuite heads. Also on the lower deck is the crew area with captain’s stateroom and head, crew galley and dinette, and two other crew quarters with upper/lower berths and ensuite heads. The crew area has private access from the main deck. Aft on the lower deck is the engine room and crew engineer double bed stateroom with head.

Yachting previously wrote: “Yachts are evolutionary products. Each new build benefits from the experience her designer and builder have gained from prior yachts, and the benefit is considerable. The narrow angle of her bow cuts the water cleanly with a noticeable lack of fuss, and her wake is as minimal as possible given her size and displacement.”

Note that this vessel is not for sale to US citizens while in US waters.

For Sale: 2008 Westport 130 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/brokerage/westport-130-antares-for-sale/ Mon, 24 Mar 2025 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=68993 The recently updated, five-stateroom Westport 130 Antares is on the market at $11.899 million.

Westport 130 Antares
The Westport 130 Antares is equipped with twin MTU 12V 4000 M90 diesels, has a cruising speed of 20 knots. At 12 knots, the range is 3,000 nm. The asking price is $11.899 million. Courtesy Allied Marine

Antares, a 2008 Westport 130, accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms, plus five in three crew cabins. Previously chartered for $120,000 per week during the winter months, Antares has been well maintained and upgraded over the past few years. Allied Marine has put Antares on the market for $11.89M.

Speaking of the Westport 130, which was first introduced in 2000, “Her naval architect is Bill Garden, whose portfolio is bulging with both sailboats and powercraft of considerable renown. Her hull form is an especially efficient one. The narrow angle of her bow cuts the water cleanly with a noticeable lack of fuss, and her wake is as minimal as possible given her size and displacement. It’s something Garden honed to perfection on years of sailing-hull designs and brings to his motoryacht designs with aplomb. The fine lines forward mean the crew quarters are pushed aft a bit farther than normal, putting the guest accommodations near the yacht’s center of pitch for added guest comfort,” Yachting previously reported.

Antares is powered by twin MTU 12V 4000 M90 diesel engines, delivering approximately 5,470 horsepower. These engines allow the yacht to cruise comfortably at around 20 knots with a top speed of 24 knots. Range is just over 3,000 nautical miles at a 12-knot cruising speed.

Much has been written about the 180-foot Amels Gene Machine and its support vessel, the 182-foot Damen Gene Chaser. They’re both owned by Jonathan Rosenberg, a geneticist who found himself doing so much research aboard the Amels during family vacations that he added the support yacht as a floating laboratory. It’s the real deal: During the pandemic, a home test to detect Covid-19 was developed on board.

Now, both yachts have been listed for sale with broker Merle Wood at Merle Wood & Associates. The asking price for Gene Machine is about $36.7 million, while the asking price for Gene Chaser is about $26.9 million.

The yachts are available separately or together.

Gene Machine is a 2013 build that accommodates as many as 14 guests in five staterooms along with 16 crew in separate quarters, and that most recently was refitted in 2019. The hull is steel, and power is a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M70 diesels. Cruising speed, according to Merle Wood, is 13 knots with a top hop of 15.5 knots.

Rosenberg has demonstrated Gene Machine’s ability to cruise in remote destinations, including the polar region. Part of his work involves looking for plants and living organisms that might provide helpful genetic elements, so being in remote destinations was simply part of the cruising plans in addition to hanging out with family or friends in destinations such as the Bahamas.

The 182-foot Damen Gene Chaser is a 2020 build with a steel hull. The superyacht accommodates eight guests and seven crew, is powered by quadruple Caterpillar 3512C TA diesels and has a 10-knot cruising speed and a top speed of 20 knots. Gene Chaser is a 2020 build that can accommodate eight guests with seven crew and four additional staff. It also has a steel hull, with power from quadruple Caterpillar 3512C TA diesels. Cruising speed is 10 knots with a maximum speed of 20 knots, the brokerage house says.

Damen builds support yachts like Gene Chaser for a wide variety of uses. They can be outfitted with full diving setups including decompression chambers, set up to carry all kinds of configurations of tenders and submersibles, and more. Originally, Damen built Gene Chaser on spec. Rothberg wanted the support vessel outfitted with a molecular biology laboratory that has 3D printers and a machine shop. Among other things, that meant Damen’s team had to convert the main deck lounge into a wet and dry lab.

In interviews, Rothenberg has likened Gene Machine to operating similar to a Four Seasons, while Gene Chaser operates more akin to a Holiday Inn Express in that it welcomes people like occasional visiting scientists on board.

Could future owners outfit Gene Chaser in other ways? Absolutely. Other variations on Damen’s support yachts suggest all kinds of possibilities.
