Further forward, past a pop-up TV and storage area, a formal dining area can accommodate 12 guests.

Forward to starboard from here is a formal foyer with access to the vessel through an entry from the starboard deck. This foyer gives access to both the lower and upper decks, the main deck elevator and main deck day head.

A Yachting contributor recently jested that the most important capacity on board a yacht is the wine cooler capacity. La Sirena is a 2000 Christensen 141-foot Raised Pilothouse currently listed with HMY Yachts for $8.495 million. The 141-foot superyacht has a 10,470-gallon fuel capacity and—maybe most importantly—a 144-bottle wine cellar.

“The 2000 Christensen 141 Raised Pilothouse La Sirena, is an epitome of elegance and sophistication in the world of motor yachts,” HMY Yachts says. “Crafted by the esteemed Christensen shipyard and delivered in 2000, this exceptional vessel underwent a major interior and exterior refit in 2013, ensuring she remains at the pinnacle of luxury and comfort.”

Interior highlights include Honduran mahogany joinery that are highlighted by a unique custom compass rose originally designed for country music legend Jimmy Dean.

“This stunning centerpiece not only adds charm but also once served as a rotating entertainment platform for guests, complete with a piano,” says HMY Yachts. “The salon also features a drop-down projector screen for cinematic experiences.”

The main deck aft on La Sirena is enclosed and the salon area amidships is a spacious 483-square-feet, giving the main deck interior a voluminous feel with the salon doors open. The aft deck space has a teak and holly sole, a custom L-shaped sofa, a high-gloss teak coffee table and an eight-person teak dining table. The salon has additional lounge seating aft and a formal dining space forward.

The foredeck has bow lounge seating forward, a U-shaped settee aft and enough open space in between for loose lounge chairs. Courtesy HMY Yachts

The main deck country-galley is past the forward bulkhead with a dinette forward and an array of meal-prep amenities, including:

  • Double stainless-steel sink w/ dual faucets w/ Insta hot water
  • Sub-Zero stainless steel refrigerators G90/G50
  • Two Sub-Zero under counter freezers
  • Dual Gaggenau ovens
  • GE Profile microwave/convection oven
  • Miele dishwasher
  • Thermador six-burner cooktop
  • KitchenAid trash compactor

Four well-appointed staterooms reside belowdecks, sleeping up to nine people. The master stateroom has an island king berth, a variety of stowage, two flat-screen TVs, a desk area, a settee and an en suite head. The port and starboard VIP staterooms have queen berths and en suite heads. The final guest stateroom has a queen berth and a Pullman bunk overhead.

The swim platform doubles as a makeshift cockpit space with a fixed table and loose chairs, however, a majority of the exterior entertainment space is on either the flybridge or the foredeck. The after section of the flybridge has lounge seating to port and pwc stowage to starboard. Amidships, a Jacuzzi sits on the centerline with reclining lounge pads on either side. Forward, a six-stool bar is to port and a dining area sits to starboard.

Twin MTU 16V2000 diesels allow La Sirena to jog at 18 knots, an impressive top speed for a 141-foot vessel with a 192-ton displacement. It’s worth noting La Sirena’s starboard engine was overhauled and zeroed out in August 2024.

Some other notable features on board La Sirena include:

  • Six Garmin 8617 17-inch screens
  • Furuno radar
  • Garmin radar
  • Garmin chart plotters
  • Garmin sonar
  • FA-170 AIS
  • Simrad AP 70 autopilot

Christensen, Christensen Shipyards
Christensen is now planning to give its employees 50 percent profit sharing. Jim Gilbert

Andy Herrington had spent more than 20 years with Christensen Shipyards when the gates closed because of financial trouble, throwing him and the other craftsmen out of their jobs. Like his co-workers, he scrounged what work he could to make ends meet. “I did a little bit of logging and tree chopping and horse training when we were off,” he says, “but mostly we just figured out how to reopen.”

That problem was resolved by Henry Luken, who purchased his first Christensen, Liquidity, in 2001 and had been part-owner of the yard since 2003. He’s now the principal yard owner and owns one of two yachts that are partly completed on site.

Two other partly finished yachts, the 164-footers Silver Lining and Chasseur, will have launched by the time you read this, having since been completed by Herrington and a lot of his former colleagues.

“The most surprising thing — and I think even Henry and the people in management were kind of taken aback too — was how many of the senior people came back,” says Jim Gilbert, who was named Christensen’s interim president in January. “We got essentially all of our shop foremen [and] essentially all of our supervisors.”

Herrington says the workers are equally thrilled to be back in business at the yard: “We have a sign outside our employee entrance that says, ‘Through this door pass the finest craftsmen in the world.’ We all believe that. When you don’t see that every day, after a while, and then you see it again for the first time, you really realize what it means. It’s who we are.”

Christensen Shipyards, which has wrestled with financial troubles, lawsuits and shut-downs since late 2014, is now preparing to launch Silver Lining, the first of two 164-foot yachts under construction.

The launch is scheduled for early May, with sea trials expected to take four weeks. Silver Lining is the first yacht to head toward completion since Henry Luken (a three-time Christensen owner) became chairman and principal owner of the shipyard, and Jim Gilbert took over as Christensen’s president.

“I can’t imagine the angst and the hardship our workers suffered when they arrived to work and found the gates locked,” Gilbert said of incidents that occurred under the previous ownership.

“All of us in management, and particularly the two people who stepped up to purchase the yard’s assets out of receivership, feel blessed that so many of our best people hung in there through those tough times and were able to rejoin the new company when it was formed last summer.”

He added, “Silver Lining is the real symbol of the rebirth of the company and a testimonial to the extraordinary boatbuilding skills of an extremely talented and dedicated workforce.”

Silver Lining will be the first Christensen launched with a new cradle and dolly system, which is expected to save at least a day’s worth of time compared with the previous system.

Right around the time that Silver Lining completes her sea trials, Christensen expects to launch Chasseur, another 164-footer that is expected to leave the shed in June.

Where to see Silver Lining and Chasseur: Both yachts are scheduled to be on display at this autumn’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Christensen yacht Daydream

Ocean Independence says the 139-foot Christensen Daydream is accepting inquiries for yacht charter this summer in Norway’s fjords.

Daydream offers a quality rarely seen on the waters of Northern Europe,” Stephanie Archer of Ocean Independence stated in a press release. The 1991 build underwent a substantial refit in 2004 and has been continually updated since, including an update to running gear and drivelines in 2012.

Daydream accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms. Three have double berths and two have twin berths, making her layout ideal for families on charter with children. Her covered aft-deck dining space allows protection from weather, and her sundeck hot tub makes a fantastic platform for enjoying the views. Her cruising speed is 12 knots, and her maximum speed is 18 knots.

For summer 2015 in Norway, the lowest weekly base rate to charter Daydream is €92,000 (about $100,000).
