The vessel is powered by twin MTU engines with a combined 2,700 hp that can quickly spool it up to a cruising speed of 17 knots and a top speed of 24 knots. A fuel capacity of 4,500 gallons gives it good range at cruising speeds.

Bandol, a 2006 Marlow Explorer 78E, is listed for sale with Worth Avenue Yachts at $1.895 million.

The yacht underwent a significant refit in 2020 and is powered by twin 1,000 hp Caterpillar C-18 Acert diesels. There is a four-stateroom layout for 10 guests, along with crew quarters aft.

The Cats, which both have around 4,300 hours on them, provide a reported top speed of 18 knots and a comfortable cruise of about 10 knots. Compared to earlier models that used larger 3412 Cat engines, the C18s offer a quieter and more compact alternative while preserving performance. Aquadrive couplings and soft engine mounts contribute to a yacht’s quiet ride. The motoryacht is also equipped with Naiad stabilizers, as well as bow and stern thrusters, supporting both underway comfort and close-quarters maneuverability.

Marlow Explorer 78E
The salon is finished in satin teak with a teak-and-holly sole and includes a U-shaped settee, coffee table, flat-screen T, and surround-sound audio system. Courtesy Worth Avenue Yachts

“Twin keels enhance performance. Basically, a hollow is molded into the bottom about amidships, and a wave forms in this area. This wave will cancel out a large stern wave, increasing performance. I’ve run several Marlows and can attest that each hull is easily driven and surefooted” Yachting previously reported of the Marlow 78E.

Accommodations include a full-beam master suite located amidships with a king-size berth, stowage and a split-head arrangement with a walk-in shower. A VIP stateroom is forward, while two guest staterooms offer additional sleeping accommodations. All guest spaces were updated with new mattresses in 2021. Crew quarters for two are located aft with separate access and head/shower facilities.

The salon has satin-finish teak with a teak-and-holly sole and includes a U-shaped settee, coffee table, flat-screen TV and a surround-sound audio system. Forward is a formal dining area for six to eight guests, but dropping in a leaf increases seating for another couple of guests. The galley, located adjacent to the pilothouse, includes Sub-Zero refrigeration, a Dacor cooktop and oven, a Franke sink and quartz countertops added during the refit. The raised pilothouse offers clean sightlines.

Some notable system upgrades completed in 2020 include new Garmin electronics, CCTV, a chilled-water air-conditioning system and a flybridge enclosure. Both 25 kW Northern Lights generators were also serviced, and new windlass and thruster motors were installed. Additional mechanical service included new zincs, Cutlass bearing inspection and exhaust system updates.

The yacht’s engine room is finished in Awlgrip and there is good access to all systems, clear labeling and soft patches for engine service. “The fuel system is designed to solve a common flaw on many yachts-the inability to use the full fuel capacity. The tank follows the contour of the hullsides, terminating at a sump at the bottom of the tank. All the fuel flows and is forced to this sump and pick-up point, allowing you to use all the fuel except that in the sump. Furthermore, two inspection plates allow a periodic cleaning of the tank,” Yachting previously reported.

When it comes to being built for long passages over open water, “Each hull is built with Kevlar and vinylester resins and then vacuum-bagged. In addition, the use of composites and coring in cabin soles and bulkheads has a beneficial effect on the interior accommodations by allowing Marlow to draw a relatively low and lean profile while not skimping on interior volume,” Yachting previously reported.

Marlow Explorer 78E
The flybridge aboard Bandol has twin Stidd helm chairs, a wet bar, grill, ice maker, wraparound settee with table and a davit for tender handling. Courtesy Worth Avenue Yachts

Bandol’s exterior includes teak decks, a Portuguese bridge, wide side decks and a full swim platform. The flybridge has a helm station with twin Stidd chairs, a wet bar, a grill, an icemaker and a wraparound settee with a table. A davit aft helps with handling the tender.

As a one-owner yacht, Bandol presents with a well-documented upgrade history. At just under $1.9 million, it competes well within the segment for 75- to 80-foot semi-displacement motoryachts. Prospective buyers will want to confirm maintenance records, engine hours and electronics functionality.

For those seeking a capable long-range cruiser built with stout construction, efficient performance and a homelike interior layout, Bandol could be worth a closer look.

The OA 85E is one example of a best-seller, thanks in part to its four-stateroom, five-head layout which accommodates up to eight guests. Live Mas is located in San Diego, California, and offered by Worth Avenue Yacht Sales for $5.4 million.

The yacht features substantial recent upgrades, including but not limited to the interior and exterior furnishings, carpeting, soft goods, white quartz countertops, refrigeration and freezer appliances, smart televisions and a Starlink system. In 2022, Live Mas had a complete exterior repaint at Westport Shipyard in Port Angeles, Washington.

Additional equipment includes:

  • 2 Kohler 32kW generators
  • SidePower hydraulic zero speed stabilization

  • Sea Recovery 900 gpd water maker
  • Ecomar 600 gpd waste treatment system

Yachting previously wrote: “From the dock, the 85E is almost a contradiction in terms: modern yet ageless. She has the requisite reversed transom, too often called Euro, that embraces and protects a wonderfully large swim platform; she has the large windows in her topsides, and everything from the window pillars to the electronics arch is raked. Yet anyone who loves the lines of a vintage Rolls-Royce or a classic Trumpy motoryacht will be right at home here. Ten years down the line, the 85E will still turn heads.

“The 85E is a boat created to bridge the gap between our traditional Ocean Alexander styling and interior design and the European boats that feature highly contemporary design that is often not accepted in the American market,” said Ocean Alexander’s Richard Allender. “It features updated exterior styling, along with a new interior layout and design. This will be the basis on which the future products from Ocean Alexander are designed.”

A Novurania tender with Yamaha outboard is also included with the vessel.
