When you hear a yacht owner say a single word to describe what drew them to their vessel—and that word is style—you know you’re about to experience something unique.

I recently had the pleasure of stepping aboard the Aquitalia 78, accompanied by Aaron Leatherwood, brand ambassador for Aquitalia Yachts, to explore the Italian-built flagship making its North American debut. The 78 leads a lineup that includes a 68, 88, and 95, and it sets the tone for a brand eager to make waves on this side of the Atlantic.

A Modern Italian Interior, Revitalized

From the moment you step into the salon, the 78 surrounds you with a tactile sense of refinement. “Aquitalia has a deep heritage in Italian yacht design,” Leatherwood tells me. “For this new series, they’ve revitalized that design language in a way that feels both timeless and forward-thinking.”

Leather, high-gloss wood accents, brushed metals, and elegant finishes combine to create an interior that’s not just visually luxurious—it’s experientially so. The salon is warm, spacious, and filled with natural light, encouraging both relaxation and socializing. Every detail has been thought through to strike the balance between elegance and comfort.

Customization That Sets a New Standard

One of Aquitalia’s standout strengths is their flexibility. “This is a semi-custom builder that truly listens to the client,” says Leatherwood. Owners can request lighter or darker woods, different upholstery colors, tailored galley layouts, or reconfigured seating areas. The 78 becomes an extension of the owner’s lifestyle, not just a yacht—but a curated living space.

A Master Suite That Rivals Home

Below deck, the four-stateroom layout is anchored by an exceptional master suite. Accessible via a private staircase, the full-beam master stateroom offers rare privacy and space, with amenities more commonly found in high-end residences. From the plush seating and desk area to the massive flat-screen TV and a full walk-in closet (truly his and hers), this space redefines onboard comfort.

“The master bath is also full-beam, with stone, wood, and metallic accents creating a spa-like atmosphere,” Leatherwood says. “It’s a space that consistently impresses—it’s hard to get people to leave once they’ve been down there.”

Outdoor Living, Elevated

Entertainment doesn’t stop at the salon. In fact, the Aquitalia 78 boasts more exterior entertainment space than interior. The aft deck features a large dining table with seating for eight, while the foredeck transforms into a social hub with room for 12–15 guests to lounge. The flybridge is a showstopper: two oversized settees, generous wet bar, abundant refrigeration, and storage all set the stage for unforgettable gatherings at sea.

Power and Performance

Underway, the Aquitalia 78 is no slouch. This particular model is powered by twin Volvo D13s for a total of 2,000 horsepower, reaching a top speed of around 19 to 20 knots. However, clients can select from a variety of propulsion options, including Caterpillar, MAN, or MTU powerplants—opening the door to 25–30 knot performance depending on configuration.

A Builder With a Legacy

With nearly 30 years of experience in both commercial and recreational marine industries, Aquitalia Yachts brings a rich heritage of boatbuilding to the table. Now, with models built to ABYC standards and enhanced for American preferences, the brand is poised for strong entry into the U.S. market.

“We’re excited to Americanize the Aquitalia brand,” Leatherwood says. “It’s a product that brings European elegance, proven performance, and serious customization potential to discerning buyers here.”

“As she had done hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times before, Cindy Purcell advanced the throttles on a custom-built Huckins, this one the new 45 Sportfisherman called Wombat,” Yachting previously reported. “The 45 SF, built for a south Florida angler, is more than a fishing machine — far more.”

United Yacht Sales has the 2015 Huckins 45 SF, Wombat, listed at $845,000. It’s now also being offered at auction without reserve with Boathouse Auctions. The online auction is live now and bidding will be from June 13th through June 17th,  and opening bids are expected to be between $400,000 and $450,000.

“Purcell turned the stainless-steel wheel, which is mounted on a raised wooden base to make it easy for the helmsman to use, sitting high for an excellent view of the waters and weed lines that might be ahead. This yacht banked smoothly and steadily into a turn at 28 knots. We ripped through tall wakes without so much as a thump, and Purcell noted that the bottom remains true to the patented Quadraconic hull her grandfather, the company’s founder, developed in 1928. That same concept helped the PT boats Huckins built for the U.S. Navy during World War II earn the reputation as the only truly “seagoing” planing design in the fleet. During U.S. Navy sea trials, the Huckins-built PT boat exhibited 60 percent less pounding than other competitive designs. That’s enough to make a believer out of most of us, and it’s one reason why Huckins owners prize their experiences in open water.

Twin low-hour (340) 480-horsepower Cummins diesels push this sportfisherman to a 35-knot top hop with a 28-knot fast cruise speed. Slowing to 24 knots allows for a 320-nautical-mile range, while slowing to 17 knots increases range to 350-plus nautical miles with a 10 percent reserve.

“I like to cruise Wombat at 28 knots when the conditions allow,” Purcell said, “but with a top speed of 35 knots, some owners might like to cruise at an even 30 knots.”

Having a high level of fishability was a top priority while designing Wombat. A number of features reinforce this trait, including a Palm Beach Towers custom marlin tower, three flush-deck insulated fish bins with macerators, an Eskimo ice maker, two 28-foot Rupp outriggers, eight rod holders in the gunwales, saltwater and freshwater washdowns and a four-rod rocket launcher.

The all-weather bridge deck is up a few steps from the cockpit with an EZ2CY enclosure, air conditioning, two inboard-facing bench seats, a single-seat helm forward and to starboard, and a forward-facing companion bench seat to port.

Belowdecks, owners and guests will find a salon and galley amidships, The galley’s Corian countertop is to starboard and is equipped with a Sub-Zero double-drawer refrigerator and freezer, a 1.5-cubic-foot convection microwave and a Kenyon Lite-Touch two-burner electric stove. An L-shaped sofa to port has room for five and a loose coffee table.  “The interior is understated, a Huckins trademark. Hand-selected, satin-finished mahogany woodwork joins sumptuous fabrics in a tastefully traditional and contemporary execution.”

Sleeping accommodations include two staterooms. The forepeak master has a walkaround centerline queen berth with under-berth stowage and a 22-inch flat-screen TV. The guest space is abaft the master and to starboard with upper and lower berths. To port, the forward head has a separate shower compartment.

Some other notable features on board Wombat include:

  • 8 kW Phasor diesel generator (406 hours)
  • Twin ZF-2800 pod units, each unit has twin 14×15 counter-rotating propellers
  • Joystick
  • 2/Simrad NSS12 Evo2 Combo, MFDs with Navionics platinum + US Southeast and N. Bahamas

Looking for a luxurious yacht that sleeps eight in four staterooms, plus room for a captain cabin and crew quarters? Iconic, a 2003 Sunseeker 82′, could make the shortlist. Power across the blue at 35 knots, or relax during a jaunt down the coast at 18 knots. Iconic‘s owner is asking $994,900.

Sunseeker stated that “the sophisticated Sunseeker 82 Yacht is built to the most rigorous shipbuilding principles around highly engineered support systems, designed for the most challenging conditions. Besides the performance this promises, and the assurance of extremely comfortable cruising, the 82 Yacht allows owners to take command or accommodate a captain and crew.”

“Sunseeker is an anomaly that draws heavily on European design influences to create yachts such as this Sunseeker 82, the latest iteration of its successful Yacht line. This is a yacht more Italian than British, more Portofino than Poole, more icy Moet than warm Guinness. The Sunseeker 82 Yacht seen on these pages is the first to arrive in the Colonies and, like other Sunseekers in the Yacht line, demonstrates the yard’s ability to satisfy each owner by offering a surprisingly wide range of interior (and exterior) arrangements, equipment and power systems. In this case, the result is a luxurious, voluminous performance yacht that will surely satisfy her owner’s cruising schedule,” as reported in Yachting.

Iconic has a solid 121,000-pound, bluewater-ready displacement, but this yacht can also go. Powered with twin 1,550 hp Caterpillar C30 diesel engines, this Sunseeker 82′ will quickly spool up to 35 knots. Dial it back to an 18-knot comfortable cruise speed and range to just over 300 nautical miles. The Caterpillar engines turn stainless-steel Temet 25 shafts, which are connected to five-blade NAB bronze propellers supported by bronze struts and high-performance bronze rudders.

Owners can entertain up to 20 guests on Iconic within its spacious salon, aft deck, foredeck and flybridge spaces. Access to the flybridge is via a set of steps from the aft deck. Interior steps were omitted to enlarge the salon’s floor plan. The flybridge is open, but has a fold-up canopy that covers the helm. Guests can be seated on cushioned bench-style seats to port and starboard with a large dinette table on the port side, on stools at the aft wet bar or cushioned bench-style seats starboard of the helm. Forward the helm on the starboard side are a couple of sunbathing pads where guests can catch some sunshine with a breeze while cruising. Serve lunch from the BBQ, drinks from the bar and relax in the open-air environment. The helm is to port with a cushioned bench-style seat with room for two. An additional helm station with remote for the engines and hydraulic thrusters make for easy close-quarters maneuvering. The yacht has the following navigation gear and electronics:

  • Sunseeker marine electronics upgrade package
  • Hydraulic power steering
  • Radar/Chart plotter with GPS (x 2 displays)
  • Autopilot
  • Depth and speed displays
  • VHF radios (dual station)
  • Manual compasss
  • Switch panels
  • Trim tab control
  • Rudder-angle indicator
  • Full analogue engine instrumentation
  • Fuel gauge

Iconic’s aft deck is shaded by the flybridge overhang with a forward-facing, bench-style seat with table and chairs on a teak sole. Guests can relax watching a football game, or easily access the swim platform, foredeck and salon. A large swim platform allows guests to easily access the water or sunbathe on the teak deck. Walk around to the foredeck where guests will find a couple of sun pads, cushioned seats and chairs, giving everyone panoramic views.

Enter the salon through a stainless-steel-framed sliding patio door from the aft deck. Windows flanking the salon allow natural light to illuminate the cherry wood interior. Two cream leather sofas, one on each side of the salon, face each other providing a great conversation area for guests. Have a cup of coffee or watch a movie on the “big screen” TV located in the aft entertainment center. Forward from the salon guests will find a cherry dinette table surrounded by eight chairs, which is located to starboard and across from the galley.

The galley is centrally located, allowing owners to easily entertain guests in the salon, aft deck, foredeck and flybridge. A full-sized, stainless-steel refrigerator/freezer provides stowage for cold goods and a number of cabinets, drawers, top-box lockers and slide-out rack provide plenty of stowage for dry goods. There’s also a stainless-steel sink, four-ring ceramic cooktop and microwave oven. Cleanup is made easy with a Slimline dishwasher and a trash bin.

The forward portion of the deckhouse is devoted to a dual-seat helm station. Engine monitors and electronics are set into a recessed walnut fascia so there is no obstruction to the sightlines through the steeply raked forward windows. Opposite the helm is a double-wide leather companion seat with a cherry wood chart table.

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of four staterooms. The master stateroom has a “Master Grand Suite” layout with a double-berth and a private en suite head. There is also a settee, dressing table with mirror and drawers. The en suite head has a granite vanity top and sole, his-and-hers sinks, mirrors and a shower. The VIP stateroom also has a double-berth with stowage underneath stowage, a dressing table with stool, drawers and en suite head. Two more guest staterooms have two single-berths, each with stowage and en suite heads. Iconic has two crew quarters, which consist of three single-berths and could be used for stowage or additional guests, if running the yacht as an owner-operator.

Where is Iconic located? The yacht is currently lying in Miami Beach, Florida
