The 2022 Outer Reef Yachts 72 Smile Smile Smile is looking for a new home and is listed for sale with Alexander Marine for $3.695 million, which represents a recent $200,000 price improvement.

Designed for making extended passages, this Outer Reef 72 offers a combination of efficiency, onboard comfort and upgraded technical systems. The motoryacht is set up with optional 1,136 hp Caterpillar C-18 diesels (985 hours), providing fuel-friendly hull speeds of 9 to 10 knots, with a cruising speed of 17 knots.

This long-range cruiser is built with a hand-laid FRP hull and PVC-core sandwich construction above the waterline. A vinylester barrier coat provides osmosis protection, while a simulated planked hull gives Smile Smile Smile an ageless aesthetic. The hull is reinforced with full-length longitudinal stringers and athwartship stringers for added structural integrity and backbone. Below the waterline, there are five coats of epoxy primer and two coats of antifouling paint. Molded rub rails with stainless-steel capping further enhance the yacht’s bluewater pedigree.

Reinforcing that last statement, about 10 percent of Outer Reef owners cruise to highly remote destinations, some have even voyaged around Cape Horn.

Onboard accommodations include four staterooms and five heads, with one cabin dedicated to crew. Although most owners are likely to be owner-operators.

The main deck provides a layout for entertaining and relaxation. The aft deck is teak and has built-in FRP bench seating and stowage beneath, as well as a sliding walnut table with stainless-steel bases for al fresco meals on the hook. A wet bar with a U-Line fridge makes for easy access to refreshments, reducing trips to the galley forward on the main deck.

A transom door leads to the extended swim platform, which has an Armstrong recessed four-step dive ladder and removable stainless-steel safety rails.

Smile Smile Smile has received abundant entertainment upgrades, including:

  • 43″ Sony 4K HDR LED TV added to flybridge with a custom removable mount and storage under the flybridge helm, connected to DirecTV and Fusion FB stereo (forward and rear)
  • 32″ Samsung 4K HDR LED TV added to cockpit/helm with a custom mount, connected to DirecTV and Fusion stereo system
  • Complete surround-system and upgraded TV added to the master stateroom, including:
    • 43″ Samsung 4K HDR LED TV
    • Marantz NR1711 receiver

A stairway from the aft deck leads to the flybridge, where a Rainier Glass enclosure provides protection from the elements, especially helpful when cruising during shoulder seasons and at cooler latitudes. The flybridge also accommodates a kayak rack and a stowage area for the included 14-foot AB DLX tender, which is powered by a 70 hp Yamaha outboard. The tender’s setup includes teak decking, a Fusion stereo, a Garmin navigation system with depth sounder, a VHF radio and custom deck stowage. Additional flybridge upgrades include a Sub-Zero clear ice maker and a movable chock system for securing a SeaDoo with tie-down pad eyes.

Other technical enhancements include two joystick remote controls for the FLIR thermal camera, LED courtesy and overhead lighting throughout the aft deck and Aqualuma underwater lighting. A Glendinning 100-amp Cablemaster with 100 feet of cable means convenient shore-power access, with an additional 50-amp shore power inlet available.

In addition to entertainment enhancements, this long-range cruiser also has improved the cruising-comfort equation with the following:

  • Two swivel leather custom chairs added in the salon from Arhaus
  • Two custom storage ottomans added in the salon from Pottery Barn

The E in Ocean Alexander’s 70E stands for Evolution. An apt descriptor for the motoryacht Ocean Alexander launched in 2016 which was designed by Evan K. Marshall.

“But, lest you worry that Ocean Alexander has thrown the baby out with the bath water, this is still a classic OA in so many ways: solid construction, outstanding seakeeping abilities and thoughtful design,” Yachting previously wrote. “If your dad had an Ocean Alexander, he’ll still feel right at home.”

Alexander Marine USA currently has Uplist II, a 2020 OA 70E, listed just shy of $3 million. The 70-foot motoryacht was the 27th 70E hull launched and is a great option for owner operators or those looking to cruise with a small crew.

Uplist II is a beautiful, one owner, Ocean Alexander 70e motor yacht,” says Alexander Marine Yacht Consultant Greg Wilkinson. “I sold this yacht new to the current owners and she has been maintained, with no expense spared, at our OA service center in Seattle every year since new.”

In the salon guests will find a light and bright atmosphere aided by the oak and stone color scheme, volume-enhancing windows and custom seating designed by Evan K. Marshall. The main-deck interior is split level with the galley amidships. Galley appliances include a wine cooler, a Fisher Paykal refrigerator, a Jenn-Air Microwave, a Jenn-Air induction cooktop, a Jenn-Air convection oven and a Bosch dishwasher.

Accommodations onboard Uplist II include four staterooms belowdecks that sleep up to eight people. The master stateroom has a king berth, a chaise lounge chair and vanity to port, two nightstands, cedar-lined stowage and an en suite head.

Power onboard Uplist II is provided by twin 1,000 hp Volvo IPS 1350 diesels which push the 70-footer to a reported 28-knot top speed. It’s worth noting the engines have just 539 hours on them.

Regarding exterior entertainment areas on board, guests will be able to enjoy alfresco dining on the main-deck aft, sunning on the foredeck’s sun pad and additional lounge seating on the flybridge.

Some other notable features on board Uplist II include:

Good Life, a 2006 Hatteras Yachts 80 Motor Yacht, is a born-to-travel motoryacht with luxe touches, solid performance and is on the market with Alexander Marine USA for $2.595 million.

This yacht has twin 1,550 hp Caterpillar C32 diesels, which provide a reported top-end speed of 23 knots. Cruise speed is 17 knots. Those Cat diesels are housed in a well-organized engine room, with easy access to all systems for regular maintenance. Hatteras’ signature sound-and- vibration insulation reduces noise levels even when the engines are running at higher RPM.

Hatteras 80 Good Life
The salon has high-gloss cherrywood cabinets, plush seating, panoramic windows and a sliding glass door to the cockpit. Courtesy Alexander Marine USA

Good Life’s cockpit is set up with a large teak dining table, bench-style settee and loose chairs, allowing guests to enjoy an alfresco dinner. A wet bar and refrigerator ensure guests have easy, all-day access to refreshments. The motoryacht has a hydraulic swim platform, making quick and effortless tender launches and water access. An integrated lighting and sound system create an inviting atmosphere for evening entertainment. For those who seek a little privacy, head up to the foredeck and relax on the sun pads.

The flybridge is fully enclosed, creating a skylounge, with a helm station forward. Alexander Marine USA stated, “The 80 maximizes your time outdoors with an expansive flybridge, with a full electronics suite and PC Monitoring System. The flybridge includes distinct social areas centered around a wet bar to port that includes three bar stools, refrigerator, sink and ice maker. Opposite and aft of the bar are two opposing L-shaped settees. Sun worshippers will appreciate the aft sun pad with stowage beneath, while backyard chefs will enjoy the double-burner Gaggenau grill.”

“The helm station, forward, made me feel as though I were piloting a sport cruiser, albeit a large one. I ran the 80 from the lower helm station, and the sound levels-66 decibels at cruise-were among the lowest I have tested. At sea, the 80 had a solid and responsive attitude; nothing seemed to faze her. Whether she was idling around the docks, going for long runs at 1,200 rpm and 13.2 knots, or hitting a fast cruise of 21 knots at 1,800 rpm, this Naiad-stabilized yacht behaved well-the only spray was created by the rotors of the helicopter used for our photo shoot. Our test ride proved displacement and speed could commingle,” Yachting previously reported.

Step into Good Life’s salon, the first thing you will notice is the high-gloss cherrywood cabinets, plush furnishings and panoramic windows that bathe the salon and galley with natural light. Open the sliding glass door to the cockpit and you get an indoor-outdoor vibe. Guests can relax on the C-shaped sofa or get a beverage from the wet bar while enjoying the game on the flat-screen TV.

Hatteras 80 Good Life
Full-size stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops, a Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer and a dinette forward round out the galley setup. Courtesy Alexander Marine USA

The galley was designed to rival a home kitchen, featuring full-size stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops and abundant stowage for dry goods and galley accessories. It’s also equipped with a Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, four-burner cooktop, oven, microwave and dishwasher. The yacht’s open design includes a forward country kitchen-style dinette, allowing guests to enjoy meals in a relaxed setting while taking in the views. The galley’s sliding pocket door separates it from the main salon when privacy is desired.

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of four staterooms, all en suite. The full-beam owners’ stateroom features a king-size berth, walk-in closet, his-and-hers heads with a shared shower and hullside windows. The VIP stateroom offers a queen-size berth with plentiful stowage for extended cruising, while the two guest staterooms have twin berths that convert to doubles. Each stateroom includes plush carpeting, high-end wood finishes and entertainment systems.

“It’s true-the sophisticated Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht is a boat without much of a downside, one poised to reach well beyond her North Carolina roots and into positions of global importance. From what I saw, she is already out of this world,” Yachting concluded in its review.

Where is Good Life located? The yacht is currently lying in San Diego, CA.

“Contrast. It’s the word that came to mind when I looked at the Azimut 55’s profile, with its aggressive bow design and fine entry. Linear. Purposeful. The near-razor-straight bow rails enhanced this first impression,” Yachting previously wrote. “That is, until my eyes scrolled over the yacht’s foredeck sun pad for four and moved on to the raked windshield.”

“Here, the 55 revealed a more gentle nature with a sweptback superstructure and glass insets to port and starboard shaped like the white patch over an orca’s eyes.”

With an exterior profile penned by Stefano Righini and an interior design by Achille Salvagni Architetti, the Azimut 55 Fly made its debut at the 2017 Boot Dusseldorf show. Alexander Marine USA currently has a 2022 Azimut 55 Fly called Aventador that is listed for $1.875 million.

“Azimut yachts are renowned for their Italian craftsmanship, sleek design, and cutting-edge technology, and this model is no exception,” says Alexander Marine USA. “With its elegant exterior lines and luxuriously appointed interior, this 55 Azimut is built to offer you and your guests the ultimate experience on the water.”

In the maindeck interior the galley aft layout helps reinforce the Aventador’s entertainment-friendly layout. The galley has an array of meal-prep appliances that includes a refrigerator, an electric cooktop, a microwave oven, stowage and a sink. Forward and up a step the salon’s lounge area sits amidships. A U-shaped settee to port and a sofa to starboard, abaft the lower helm station, create a comfortable conversational space, or two.

After a fun day on the water, owners and their guests can look forward to the three staterooms belowdecks. Amidships the full-beam master stateroom has a double berth and an en suite head. Forward, the forepeak VIP has a centerline berth and an en suite head while the final guest cabin has two single side-by-side berths.

Exterior entertainment spaces onboard the 55 Fly include the usual suspects for a flybridge cruiser in this range. Guests will have access to a sun pad on the foredeck for sunning, an alfresco dining space in the cockpit and a variety of lounging options on the flybridge, which does feature a retractable sunroof in case more sun is desired.

Where is Aventador located? The yacht is currently lying in Newport Beach, California.

“Entering the single-level salon through a slider, I found the decor striking. Gray is the new beige, and there are a variety of surfaces in a variety of textures, from wood grain to slick, enhancing one another. The cherry sole and trim offer a touch of warmth and a nautical feel. The helm module —housing dual multifunction displays, switches and more—seemed to float. It had Tiara’s hallmark “pencil holder” design, allowing the skipper to keep sundry items secure and at hand,” Yachting previously reported.”

The helm to starboard has a teak sole and a custom double-wide leather captain’s bench-style seat with footrests and all controls within arm’s reach. Two large windscreens with wipers along with large side windows give the captain a full view of the environment. A Seakeeper gyrostabilizer keeps the vessel comfortable in sloopy seas while joystick control enhances close-quarter maneuvering. Upgraded with the latest Docking Assist system, “Dock Hold feature,” skippers can set the amount of thrust to hold the vessel at dock while single-handedly tying off the vessel.

Tranquility Base is a well-maintained 2006 Ocean Alexander 58 that has been kept inside a custom-built boat house, keeping it free from constant exposure to the elements. This owner-operator motoryacht is listed with Alexander Marine USA for $1.229 million.

“The 58 pilothouse was designed by the iconic Ed Monk Jr., who has been producing eye-pleasing, classic, seakindly pilothouse yachts for Ocean Alexander for almost three decades. Indeed, there are now more than 1,000 Ocean Alexanders cruising around the world; the current lineup goes from 42 to 98 feet. The new 58 pilothouse is a traditional three-stateroom, two-head design with lots of teak and luxury appointments that appeal to buyers who are used to the best, whether in their homes or their yachts, and who also, as Johnny says, want the independence of running the boat themselves. (With three staterooms, of course, there’s room for a crew, but the boat is really designed for the owner-operators of the world),” Yachting previously reported.

Powered by twin 700 hp Caterpillar C-12 diesel engines, Tranquility Base can hit 20 knots. But this yacht is not about speed, it’s about cruising in comfort. Dial it back to around 13 knots for a long-range cruise speed.

The 58’s salon has high-gloss Sakura wood with teak and Burl wood trim. Stepping inside the salon via a stainless-steel framed glass door from the cockpit, the custom exotic woodwork glows in the natural light, creating a warm, relaxing sensation. Recline in a leather loveseat to port or kick back on the sofa to starboard.

The galley is forward and to starboard, just abaft the helm on centerline. The U-shaped galley has plenty of counter space for food prep, and it’s equipped with an electric cooktop, oven and microwave. Stow your cold goods in the oversized refrigerator/freezer and other galley accessories in an array of cabinets. Forward and to port is a dinette, allowing guests to have their meals with a view while keeping the skipper company.
