Beneteau’s Swift Trawler 37 replaces the Swift Trawler 35 and joins a lineup that has seen more than 1,800 boats launched since 2003, ranging from 37 to 63 feet across five models. The Swift Trawler 37, available in a flybridge or sedan version, presents a rising, linear sheerline that extends to a flared bow with a high freeboard. The design includes a reverse windshield, which should enhance visibility and the vessel’s trawler aesthetic. It also creates real estate forward for electric skylights or rooftop solar panels.

The trawler comes in either a sedan or a flybridge version. The flybridge model includes a single-seat helm to starboard and U-shaped seating around a table to port. An adjustable backrest converts the forward section into a companion helm seat. If bridge height is a consideration, or for those who like single-level living, there is the sedan version.

The “Adaptive Cockpit” offers increased space compared to the 35, with an optional “sliding seat upgrade.” Forward, a raised portside seat includes a smart lift-up table.

Standard power for the Swift Trawler 37 is a 400 hp Yanmar 6LY diesel. Fuel capacity is 211 gallons. Cruising at 8 knots, the reported range is 350 nautical miles, considering a 10 percent fuel reserve. For those seeking a little more horsepower, a 440 hp Yanmar is available.

Inside is a fully equipped U-shaped galley with Corian countertops to starboard, and across is U-shaped seating with a table that converts to a double bunk with a privacy curtain.

Belowdecks, the owner’s stateroom is forward with a step-up berth and private access to the single head. Abaft to port is a guest cabin with bunks.

“This latest stunning addition to the Beneteau Swift Trawler family is another bold step forward. We have been delighted to spend time to listen to our customers and create a modern passagemaker that meets their needs for life and freedom on the water,” stated Robert Chaffer, Beneteau Product Manager, in a press release.

The Beneteau Swift Trawler 37 is slated to debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Beneteau’s Grand Trawler 62 has admirable fuel consumption and long range, but the most important number you need to know is 24. That’s how many wine bottles fit in this yacht’s chiller, and it might govern the range of your adventures more than something like mere diesel fuel.

The Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 itself is kind of like a fine French wine: robust and full of fun, but with hidden notes that become apparent upon closer examination. Take the cockpit, for example. Instead of the usual forward-facing settee, the 62 has an L-shaped settee with a folding table tucked into the forward port corner. Thus, the view is not of the salon, but aft through clear Lucite panels in the railing—a much more pleasant panorama. And set up against the house and protected by teak-slat “fashion plates,” the settee is out of the wind and sun. For boarding, easy steps lead from the hydraulic transom platform, which has a ladder that unfolds automatically when the platform is lowered.

Thoughtful details extend beyond creature comforts. In the cockpit, there are husky mooring bitts on each corner with warping winches and roller chocks. There’s also a tidy opening to stash stray lines so no one trips. Another welcome design element is the two separate stairways to the bridge, both gentle with good rails. One leads from the cockpit, while the other is just abaft the lower helm so the skipper can easily scamper to and from the bridge.

The Alpi-veneer, gloss-oak salon is light and bright, with a U-shaped sofa aft facing a pop-up TV. The galley is amidships for minimal motion, which should delight chefs balancing full pots. The galley, in keeping with European tradition, is separated with full bulkheads. They can have openings, and snack grabbers can get in via a sliding door. On Euro versions of this yacht, the galley bulkheads have glass windows. Amenities include a four-burner Siemens cooktop, a Miele dishwasher and a full-size Vitrifrigo fridge. A sliding door connects the galley to the side deck and makes provisioning easy. An L-shaped settee with a dining table is opposite the galley on the pilothouse level for casual meals.

Beneteau Grand Trawler 62
Teak-planked decks make for secure footing, and the 20-inch-wide side decks have high bulwarks. Nicolas Claris

At the helm, the skipper and a companion have upholstered bucket seats. Their raised position allows a commanding view through the forward-raked windshield, above triple Raymarine displays. Bow and stern Side-Power thrusters—with a “hold” feature for docking—pair with the Aventics joystick controller. (A mini helm station is in the cockpit.) A sliding door to starboard should make shorthanding easy, with another large bitt just outside. A settee for guests is tucked to port by the helm, enabling them to watch the action.

A curving stairwell next to the helm leads to the lower foyer, with the full-beam master stateroom located aft. The 62’s almost 18-foot beam is put to good use, and a nearly king-size island berth offers stowage underneath. Adding to this stowage are six drawers and lockers to starboard, and a vanity to port. Natural light is courtesy of rectangular hullside windows. The en suite head has a stall shower with a Lucite door and seat. There is 6-foot-8-inch headroom, and the space exudes luxury.

Next off the foyer is a twin-berth guest stateroom to port. The VIP stateroom is forward with an angled berth and an en suite head that doubles as a day head.

The flybridge is full-beam, with a U-shaped dinette, space for chaises aft, and a bar and grill abaft the twin helm bucket seats. A double-wide settee is to port, and a 6-by-11-foot sunroof opens in the fiberglass hardtop.

At the foredeck are sun pads, two 4-by-3-foot clamshell lockers for deck gear and fenders, and the anchor windlass stowed in a locker, as well as a snubbing capstan atop the coaming for dock lines. Teak-planked decks make for secure footing, and the 20-inch-wide side decks have high bulwarks—up to 4 feet, 2 inches forward of the helm—for safety when handling lines. There also are double-welded rails forward.

Power for the 62 is a pair of 730 hp MAN i6 diesels. The engine room is laid out for owner-operators: It has diamond-plate soles for security, the engines are a whopping 50 inches apart, and there is 5-foot-10-inch headroom. The 62 I got aboard also had a 7.5 kW Onan genset, which was equally serviceable. Access to the engine room is via the crew quarters, which have crisscross berths and separate shower and head compartments.

Underway in the Gulf Stream, we saw lumpy leftover seas with a few 4-to-6-footers mixed in, and the 62 ate it up. This yacht had an optional Quick MC2 X3 gyrostabilizer. Even when the captain put us beam on to the seas, the 62 remained as stable as a table. The most devout landlubber’s stomach could enjoy this ride, which, despite the lumps, was at just over 20 knots when desired.

The Grand Trawler 62 is the largest vessel in Beneteau’s power fleet, and the builder has raised its own bar for finishing and details. The yacht is delivered with a full set of dishes and flatware, so all owners need to bring is a toothbrush. And oh, yes, the 24 bottles of wine.

Grand or Swift

Beneteau debuted its Swift Trawlers in 2003. So far, 1,300 of the hulls have been built. The full- displacement Grand Trawler is aimed at the voyaging set, with a range of 1,045 nautical miles at 9 knots (burning 7.9 gph), although it can hit 20 knots when needed.

Details, Details

Small touches set the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 apart and make it one of the more luxurious trawlers on the market. They include sea rails on all lockers to keep stowed food and gear in place, leather-wrapped interior handrails for security in a seaway, and leather drawer pulls like those found on larger yachts.

On an Even Keel

Quick is an Italian stabilizer company that’s been in the marine market since 1983 and that builds marine electronics, refrigeration, air conditioning and electrical systems. It established Quick USA to provide technical assistance. The Quick X3 gyro produces 3,900 newton meters (2,876 foot-pounds) of torque with a spool-up time of 10 minutes.

Outer Reef Yachts is sharing more details about its new 670 Azure Sport Yacht.

The defining design feature on this model is an indoor-outdoor galley and aft deck for guest relaxation and entertainment.

According to Outer Reef, this hull of the 670 Azure Sport Yacht is built for a young cruising couple. Exterior features include what the builder calls a “Serenity Foredeck Lounge,” and a hydraulic integral sports platform aft. The sports platform submerges into the water for launching equipment, tenders, fishing and more.

The bluff-bow Navetta 64 is the latest new-age trawler from Italy’s Absolute Yachts. This model’s biggest evolution from the builder’s other five Navettas is a forward-raked windshield, a feature as practical as it is stylish. The proportionally larger side windows toward the bow are now a brand signature for Absolute, creating a bold profile in concert with detailing such as the sturdy molded rail that sweeps aft to the transom from the high foredeck.

For go-anywhere cruisers, the Navetta 64 has all the appropriate design elements. A hardtop protects the flybridge, whose overhang shields not only the aft deck but also the side decks. There are booth-style seating and sunbathing space on what Absolute calls the “foredeck terrace.” There’s also an optional glazed transom—another big design departure for this model—that conceals an air-conditioned space. This area can serve as a beach-club lounge during the day or as a double-berth stateroom for occasional overnight guests (a flip-over backrest converts the mattress into a sofa). With that aft space in use as a stateroom, the Navetta 64 can sleep eight people in four en suite staterooms.

The aft space has two sliding glass doors that seal pneumatically and are RINA-certified to ensure the compartment is watertight when they’re closed. Even if, in an emergency, the space were flooded, it would not compromise the yacht, according to the builder. And the engines won’t start if the doors are left open.

In addition to the sliding doors, a watertight door from the space’s portside head leads forward to the engine room, which can be accessed through a hatch in the cockpit sole.

If you’re thinking this stern design means there’s no place for crew, you’re wrong. A crew cabin is amidships to starboard, with its own stairs descending from a door on the starboard side deck—the sort of arrangement commonplace on larger motoryachts.

The Navetta 64′s interior styling is contemporary cool with elm and walnut furniture, oak soles, and a harmonious blend of textures and sheens. The main salon includes a galley and dining table aft. A drop-down window helps open up the galley to the cockpit. Amidships is a lounge where most of the furniture is by Minotti.

Absolute Navetta 64

Forward of the salon, the bridge is raised, giving the lounge abaft it a feeling of intimacy. There are two seats at the bridge with the helm outboard. Most instrumentation is by Garmin. The commanding position delivers clear visibility forward and to the immediate sides, particularly so to starboard, thanks to an optional side-deck glass door whose top panel opens. Cameras and a stern docking station can mitigate the lack of direct sightlines aft, and there is the option of enclosing the upper helm position, which has 360-degree views.

The owner’s stateroom is forward, several steps down from the salon. The forward-facing berth has plenty of space around it, splendid views thanks to Absolute’s signature glazing, and en suite facilities in the bow with another set of windows and opening portholes. Two other en suite staterooms occupy the amidships space on the lower deck. There’s an athwartships double to port and a twin-berth setup to starboard.

Absolute Navetta 64

Absolute’s design team also focused on utility in the Navetta 64. The laundry room’s door is set into the same bulkhead that separates the owner’s stateroom from the rest of the accommodations, but the laundry room itself is accessed from the lower-deck lobby. There’s space for a washer/dryer and stowage for towels and linens. Another door beyond the appliances reveals a service tunnel that runs all the way forward to the chain-locker bulkhead and deep stowage compartments.

Designed for a maximum speed in the mid-to-high 20s and a fast cruise in the high teens, the Navetta 64′s standard power is twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1200 diesels. However, most owners have opted for the biggest machinery offered: twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 diesels. Absolute says the optional powerplants are ideal for customers who run heavy with lots of guests and luggage, the largest possible tender, and the biggest stabilizer. Hull No. 1, the first of three Navetta 64s destined for the United States so far, has the big horses and a reported top speed of about 28 knots.

From the laundry room to the beach club to the foredeck lounge, Absolute optimized all available real estate. Courtesy Absolute Yachts

The Absolute Navetta 64 may have a trawler-inspired aesthetic, but the yacht’s fast-cruising performance, modern design elements and multifunctional spaces create a new and welcome style of cruising yacht.

Sales broker John DeCaro has listed the 98-foot Inace explorer yacht AB Normal for sale. The asking price for the 2006 build is $6,895,000.

AB Normal is Hull No. 6 in Inace’s line of explorer yachts from 80 to 126 feet length overall. She has some customizations, including an enlarged deckhouse to accommodate separate dining and lounge spaces. Her swim platform is also unusual: It was extended by 4 feet to create a water-level relaxation area.

Other upgrades include extra on-deck stowage and a hot tub on the sky lounge deck. A recent yard period saw all systems checked and replaced as needed, according to DeCaro.

The yacht is currently available for inspection in Sint Maarten.

How far can AB Normal cruise? At her cruising speed of 10 knots, her range is reportedly 4,500 nautical miles. Top speed is 13 knots.
