Vicem Yachts in Turkey has been building boats since 1991. Its Classic line draws on the styling of the models that first caught the world’s attention, but adds contemporary design cues and modern interiors.

This customized hull of the Vicem 65 Classic—Hull No. 1, recently delivered to an American owner—shows just how well the builder can blend heritage and modernity.

Vicem 65 Classic
This Vicem 65 has a galley-up layout with a four-burner cooktop, fridge, wine chiller and more. Pozitif Studio

“Owners can customize their Vicem 65 Classic to their own exacting needs and tastes,” Noelle Semmes, Vicem Yachts’ director of sales, stated in a press release. “It’s something that we don’t just do as an exception, but as standard, and it’s extremely rare at this size point.”

As some examples, Vicem buyers can choose an atrium galley, a galley up or a galley aft that’s open to the cockpit. Stateroom configurations can include full-beam masters, twin masters or bunk rooms with hidden Pullman berths.

On this Vicem 65 Classic, the owner went with single-pane side windows for uninterrupted views of the outdoors. The after portion of the salon has an L-shaped sofa and that converts into a double berth for guests (meaning a total of four double berths on board).

At the forward end of the salon is a galley opposite the helm, so the owner and guests can converse at all times. The galley has a four-burner cooktop with a microwave underneath, a dishwasher, an ice maker, a fridge and a wine chiller.

Down on the accommodations deck, there’s a lower salon. The VIP is forward, and the guest stateroom’s twin berths convert to a double. The master is a full-beam amidships affair with an open double-sink area that makes the space feel like a contemporary loft apartment.

There’s also a sizable crew cabin abaft the engine room, with a crew head, in a setup that’s similar to what’s more commonly seen aboard larger yachts.

Out on deck is where guests will spend most of their time, including in the cockpit with an L-shaped settee and a custom high-low table for dining, coffee or cocktails. A sink, fridge and grill make barbecuing an option. Forward, the foredeck has four sun pads.

“This latest addition to our classic range really demonstrates both what we can do and what we can offer, even at 21 meters,” Semmes stated in the release. “The first 65 Classic we have just delivered is the epitome of what draws owners from all over the world to Vicem.”

Are any more Vicem 65 Classic hulls under construction? Yes. According to the shipyard, two more hulls are already being built, “each with a custom interior that makes them unique.”

Vicem currently offers five different lines for owners to choose from including its Classic series which stretches from 46 feet to 82 feet length overall. When the Turkish builder launched Holly Ann, a 2010 Vicem 64 Classic currently listed with Allied Marine for $990,000, the yacht was considered a 58 Classic; however, Vicem reclassified its builds based on LOA.

“Holly Ann is a beautiful, well maintained, classic Downeast. The yacht has been owned and cared for with an open checkbook,” says Allied Marine. “Holly Ann should be on the top of your list for anyone looking for a timeless classic.”

Vicem 64 Classic
Guests can lounge or dine in the cockpit thanks to two L-shaped settees and a hi-low table. Courtesy Allied Marine

Vicem uses a cold molded construction process that utilizes wood and gives its builds an advantage in comfort, noise reduction and sound insulation.

“Recognizing wood’s superior qualities and honoring the tradition of woodworking craftsmanship in Turkey, Vicem proudly continues to utilize traditional boat building methods but with a contemporary twist,” says Vicem Yachts. “All the Vicem Vintage Line yachts are built with the cold molded process. This operation involves applying layers of thin solid-wood veneers, oriented at different angles, to be saturated by epoxy over a computer-designed mold. This marriage of engineered woods with formulated resins yields a hull that is lighter, stronger and more durable than traditionally built fiberglass boats.”

The high-gloss cabinetry and joinery throughout combined with the Bensenzoni high-gloss mahogany hi-low table in the salon create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Two inboard-facing sofas flanking the salon complete the seating. Holly Ann has the galley down layout which has it amidships to port. The galley has a number of meal-prep appliances, including:

  • Two Isotherm refrigerators
  • Isotherm freezer
  • Bosch 4-burner cooktop
  • Gaggenau oven
  • GE microwave oven
  • Stainless steel sink
  • Fisher Paykel dishwasher

Luxury amenities like the mahogany wood floors extend to the staterooms belowdecks. The forepeak stateroom on this 64 is the master which has a centerline queen berth and an en suite head. Both the VIP and the guest staterooms are abaft the master to port and starboard respectively.

The cockpit on the 64 Classic is the only true outdoor entertainment area, and it doesn’t disappoint. Two L-shaped settees that wrap around almost half of the cockpit pair with a high-gloss mahogany Benzenzoni high-low table to create a multifunctional space that caters to both dining and lounging.

Twin 900 hp MAN diesels will reportedly push Holly Ann to a 27-knot top hop and a cruise speed of 23 knots. It’s worth noting these engines have 1,350 hours on them.

Some other features on board Holly Ann include:

  • Onan 21.5KW generator
  • Raymarine integrated electronics package
  • Yacht Controller wireless remote ($15,000 value)
  • Sidepower bow and stern thrusters
  • Raymarine hybrid touch (2)
  • Raymarine ST6002 autopilot
  • Raymarine ST 70 depth gauge
  • Raymarine AIS vessel identification system
  • ITT Jabsco searchlight
  • Raymarine VHF radio with remote speaker

Invictus TT420S
The Invictus TT420S has characteristics similar to its larger sistership, the TT460.

Invictus TT420S: Outboard-Powered Elegance

The Invictus TT420S is the outboard-powered version of the builder’s TT420, packing triple Yamaha powerplants at the transom. Yes, this means boaters lose the center portion of the swim platform. However, boaters gain a stowage area for toys where the inboard-outboard engines used to be, and the boat’s tender garage remains, capable of housing a 6-foot-10-inch ride. Also still present is Christian Grande’s overall design, with Hull No. 1 of the TT420S being painted in the builder’s signature Vogue White. Both hullsides can be equipped with foldout terraces to increase relaxation space on the hook. Accommodations belowdecks are for two to four people during long-weekend getaways.

wallywhy100: 70 Feet of Style

This is the smallest of three wallywhy models from the Monaco-based builder, with the designation 100 referring to the yacht’s gross tons of volume. Standard power is a pair of 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1200s, with the option for 1,000 hp IPS1350s. According to the builder, the optional powerplants provide a top hop of 27 knots with a cruise speed of 24 knots. The extra speed results in a slight decrease in range to 340 nautical miles. (Range is 360 nm with the standard engines.) On board, this yacht has a single “living level” from bow to stern, with a salon, dining area and helm connecting to what Wally calls the “beach deck” aft. Its sides fold out at anchor to increase the usable space for fun in the sun.

Vicem 95

Vicem 95: Fully Custom Construction

Empire is the name of this recent launch from the Vicem Yachts shipyard in Turkey. The yacht is part of the builder’s Cruiser line and is inspired by the Vicem 107, which the yard says the owners loved but wanted customized to suit their needs. There’s seating and dining at the foredeck. Outdoor shaded dining for 10 people is on the aft deck with a nearby fridge, sink and flip-down television. Up top, the flybridge spans two-thirds of the yacht’s length with yet more dining, seating and a bar. A hot tub is to starboard, and there’s space aft to stow a nearly 20-foot tender that can be launched with a crane. Inside, the indoor dining, seating and galley are all on one level. The full-beam owner’s stateroom is belowdecks with a king-size berth.

XO Explr 44: Speeds Above 43 Knots

Finland’s XO Boats has launched its first crossover model: the Explr 44. The shipyard is billing this model as an aluminum adventure design that takes its styling inspiration from superyachts. One example is two en suite staterooms that are equal in size. The forward stateroom has a double berth, while the aft stateroom can be ordered with a double or twins. There’s also a bunk in the pilothouse. The interior is heated as well as air-conditioned for comfortable cruising in most climates. Owners also have a choice of engines: two 600 hp outboards or triple 450 hp outboards, with a reported top speed of more than 43 knots. Solar panels can be mounted on the roof, which also has racks for bicycles and other sports gear.

Exterior and interior design are by Lorenzo Argento, who also has worked with Beneteau and Candela. Courtesy Omikron Yachts

Omikron OT60: First Model of a New Brand

Olympic Marine in Greece has launched a new boat brand: Omikron Yachts. The first model in the Omikron lineup is the OT60, which the yard calls a response to the “universal desire for a simple, sensible vision of sustainability.” The idea is to combine the efficiency and silence of a sailing yacht with the volume and conveniences of a motoryacht. The Omikron OT60 reportedly burns less than a half-gallon of fuel per nautical mile when cruising at a speed of 8 knots, and can achieve a top hop of 15 knots when owners need some extra oomph. The shipyard’s chairman says the design is inspired by the island-hopping lifestyle that is so common in Greece, “embodying the love of the journey with elegance and comfort at sea.”

Enata Vatoz
The wingspan of the Vatoz with the foils out is 23 feet, 7 inches. With the foils retracted, beam is 10 feet, 10 inches. Courtesy Enata Marine

Vatoz: Limited Edition of the Enata Foiler

Enata Marine in the United Arab Emirates says it plans to build just eight of these “ultra luxury” Vatoz editions of its 32-foot-long Foiler yacht. The hull is built from carbon fiber, with tinted windows adding to the sleek nature of the design by Timur Bozca, who says the styling was inspired by the dynamics of a stingray. Each of these boats comes with Enata’s Wingman management system, which makes it easier for skippers to use the foiling feature. Enata says the vessel has a cruising range of 190 nautical miles at 20 knots, or 150 nm at a speed of 30 knots. The yard also says the boat’s propulsion system is 40 percent more efficient than a traditional boat’s setup.

Vicem Yachts in Istanbul says the Vicem 95 Empire is now headed to Australia, where it will cruise the owner’s home waters and make its public debut in May at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Empire is a highly customized, cold-molded composite build that’s part of Vicem’s Cruiser line, which includes models from 67 feet to 107 feet length overall. The trideck Empire has a flybridge as well as a shaded cockpit, along with numerous details that Vicem says make this motoryacht “the pinnacle” of its custom-build program.

The design, according to the builder, pays homage to the Vicem 107. “The owners came to speak to us with a very clear idea in mind,” Deniz Sonmez, Vicem’s head of interior designers, stated in a press release. “They had fallen in love with the classic Vicem 107 Cruiser and wanted a yacht built in her image. Our in-house design team took full account of their requests and created a layout precisely tailored to suit their wishes.”

On the foredeck, Empire has seating, dining and a separate lounging area for sunbathing. Side decks give guests a straight path to the aft deck, where there is shaded dining for 10 people along with a fridge, sink and flip-down television.

Up on the flybridge—which spans two-thirds of the yacht’s deck length—there’s a wet bar with two refrigerators, an ice maker, a sink and a freezer. Informal dining and seating for 10 people is on this deck, along with a hot tub, tender storage and a crane with a lifting capacity of 2,200 pounds.

Empire carries all the classic Vicem design features, with lots of outside space, long overhangs and shaded side decks,” hull designer Yusuf Altundasar stated in the press release. “In this, she is perfectly tuned for a luxurious lifestyle in the sun, whether that’s our home waters in the Mediterranean or the sunny shores of her owners’ native Australia.”

Vicem Yachts Empire
Empire has an open main-deck floor plan. It’s also notable for no less than nine woods with several finishes. Pozitif Studio

Inside, the layout is open plan with the galley, dining for eight, and seating on a single level. A separate service galley is belowdecks because sometimes, the owner likes to cook in the main-deck galley, surrounded by guests.

Also belowdecks are the crew and guest spaces, separated by the amidships engine room (which houses twin 1,600-horsepower MTU engines). The master stateroom spans the full beam with a king-size berth and a sofa. The VIP is in the bow, and there’s a twin-berth guest stateroom with a Pullman berth.

What kind of wood is used in Empire’s interior? Nine kinds of woods with multiple finishes, including various shades of oak.

Turkish builder Vicem Yachts proves that traditional styling is still in vogue with the 65 Classic Flybridge. The 66-footer has downeast lines, is available in fiberglass and cold-molded versions, can speed away when necessary, and has modern liveaboard comforts.

From the cockpit, the flybridge is accessed via starboard-side stairs. Up top, C-shaped seating converts to a sun pad. Two wooden dinettes are nearby for snacks, drinks or meals. Abaft this settee is an aft-facing sun pad for two. To starboard, there is a wet bar with a barbecue, a sink and a fridge/freezer to assist with alfresco entertaining. Forward of the wet bar is the two-seat upper helm station with twin 17-inch Garmin displays.

On the main deck, the teak cockpit has an L-shaped settee in the after portside corner. It’s accompanied by a wooden dinette. Forward and to port are two Besenzoni bar stools shaded by the flybridge, and connected via a frameless electric window to the salon, bar and sink inside.

The salon has an L-shaped settee to port with a coffee table. To starboard, there are cabinets and enough space for two free-standing chairs that won’t impede anyone’s ability to walk forward to the lower helm station, which has two Garmin screens and a door that provides side-deck access for easier docking.

Belowdecks, the 65 Classic Flybridge is flexible. The standard layout includes two en suite staterooms: a full-beam amidships master with a king-size berth and a forward VIP. Separating the two staterooms is a space that the builder calls a dining and lounge area, which has a head. With a sliding door, the overall space converts to a third en suite guest stateroom.

The 65 Classic Flybridge’s galley is also belowdecks, to port. It has a four-burner cooktop, cabinets, a sink and a microwave across from an L-shaped countertop.

In terms of the yacht’s exterior looks, Vicem says a light-blue hull has been the most popular paint selection, but colors are customizable.

Standard motors are 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 straight-shaft diesels. With optional Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels, the builder reports a 32-knot top-end speed and a 26-knot cruising speed. Additional features include a hydraulic swim platform and four 630-amp lithium batteries that provide more than 15 hours of operating time at anchor.

The WiLder 60, From Wider Yachts

With the WiLder 60, Italy’s Wider Yachts is introducing more than a new model. It’s launching the first design in a whole new brand of boats. The aluminum design is described as a hybrid between a chase boat and a performance cruiser, with reported 40-knot speed and a customizable platform for one-off orders. Power is a pair of twin 1,300 hp MAN V-8s. The first hull is already in build and scheduled to launch this summer, with a draft of 3 feet, 4 inches that should make the boat usable in skinny-water destinations. Hull No. 1 will have three staterooms and two heads for weekends with friends or family at anchor. For easier maneuvering in close quarters, the boat will be outfitted with Quick Marine bow and stern thrusters.

Lazzara Yachts is building this LPC 70 power catamaran for an owner who expects to cruise in the Mediterranean. There are five guest staterooms on board, including a master slightly abaft amidships that has a starboard-side fold-out balcony. The main deck has a day head, and the galley is located forward on the lower deck, with stairs leading to the main-deck dining table. Aft, there’s relaxation space for guests, along with a garage that can house an 18-foot tender and two personal watercraft. When the tender and toys are deployed, the space becomes a beach club. Lazzara is projecting a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots with twin 550 hp Volvo Penta D8s. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13s are optional.

Vicem’s 65 Classic Flybridge, With Down East Style

The Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge is a Down East-style boat with a reported maximum speed of 32 knots. The builder says the light-blue hull color is proving popular, though owners can choose whatever color they wish. Accommodations include an amidships master stateroom with a king-size berth and a forepeak stateroom for guests. Both are en suite, and they’re separated by a galley and dining space, giving everyone their privacy. The dining space can convert to a sleeping area for extra guests. Alfresco dining is up on the main deck. Vicem says the 65 Classic Flybridge can be built in fiberglass, but cold-molded construction is available as well. Lithium-ion batteries can power the boat for 15 hours without generator use.

Turkey’s Vicem Yachts has a new Classic-series flagship: the 82 Flybridge. Hull No. 1 was delivered in late January 2022, with the 82 as the fourth flybridge model in the Classic lineup. Construction is in cold-molded, strip-planked mahogany with epoxy.

Vicem says the 82 is designed for socializing and entertaining, making it a great trawler for cruising or overnights with friends. This intent is seen on the main deck, which has no galley. Instead, the main deck has seating for the family, friends and their friends from the cockpit to the salon. That seating is in addition to sun pads for four on the bow and forward-facing seating for two far forward at the bow.

The cockpit is set up with two face-to-face L-shaped settees. The one to port has a wooden table that’s longer than the one to starboard, which leaves room for stairs to the flybridge just forward. An additional settee for at least two is to port, just before the double sliding doors that lead into the salon. Inside is an L-shaped settee with a wooden coffee table. A Garmin-outfitted helm station is to starboard, with seating for at least five to port.

Up top, the 82’s flybridge continues the design theme. To port, there’s a two-person, aft-facing sun pad along with a U-shaped settee and two tables; to starboard are a sink, wine chiller, barbecue grill, a seat for one guest and the secondary helm station, with seating for a skipper and mate.

Belowdecks, the overnight accommodations include three staterooms, each with en suite heads. The full-beam, amidships master stateroom has hanging-locker stowage, a settee with additional stowage to port and a vanity to starboard. The king-size berth is on centerline. The starboard-side stateroom and a forepeak VIP each have queen-size berths.

The galley, also belowdecks, is to port and is centrally located amid the staterooms, further enhancing the idea of everybody on board gathering together. Appliances include a dishwasher, a full-size refrigerator, a microwave/oven, a four-burner electric cooktop—all by Bosch—and an Isotherm ice maker.

With seating and space for a dozen or so guests, the Classic 82 Flybridge still has a place for owners to seek reprieve from the crowd. Far forward on the foredeck is this seating for two with sweeping views all around. Courtesy Vicem Yachts

Power for the Classic 82 Flybridge is twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels. Vicem Yachts says the yacht’s top hop is 17.8 knots, and the cruising speed is 15 knots. At 9 knots with a 10 percent fuel reserve, range is reportedly 1,100 nautical miles.

Vicem Yachts in Turkey is preparing to release a new line of boats called the Tuna Master. The first model will be a 37-foot center console with features for cruising as well as for fishing.

The 37-foot Tuna Master also will be available as an express cruiser. On both versions, owners can choose dual or triple outboard engines from 300 to 450 horsepower.

Murat Iyriboz is the designer on the Tuna Master 37, with collaboration by DLBA Naval Architects in Virginia. The boat will be built in fiberglass with a carbon hardtop and with what Vicem calls “selective use of carbon fiber and teak trim for a true yachtlike finish.”

According to Vicem, the Tuna Master 37 will have a Seakeeper stabilizer, a range of more than 350 nautical miles, a berth and a wet head. The center-console version of the boat will have a triple helm seat.

How fast can it get to the canyons? Vicem is projecting a 45-knot top hop with an optional power package, and upwards of 40-knot speed with standard twin 300-horsepower outboards.
