When Aquila debuted the 36 Sport Power Catamaran, few could have predicted the impact it would have on the global market. Approaching 300 units sold worldwide, the model helped redefine expectations for comfort, performance, and utility in the power catamaran space. Now, Aquila has taken everything they’ve learned from their successful lineup—including the Sport, Yacht, and Center Console lines—and delivered something refreshingly different: the new Aquila 46 Coupe.

A Vision Rooted in Evolution

The 46 Coupe isn’t just another model—it’s a response to shifting trends in how boaters want to cruise. Over the past few years, Aquila has seen increasing demand for what they call the “Cruiser Package”: a fully enclosed helm, a full-height windshield, and an entertainment-first layout. This led to the creation of the Aquila Coupe line, starting with the 42 Coupe and now culminating in the all-new 46.

Designed for Extended Escapes

The 46 Coupe is built for more than day trips. It’s a genuine regional cruiser, offering the comforts of larger yachts while retaining the sporty DNA of Aquila’s smaller models. Inside, the two-stateroom, two-head layout offers unexpected luxury. The primary cabin features a full king-size berth facing outboard for excellent views, while the guest stateroom to port offers ample space and privacy. Both cabins are equipped with dry heads and full showers, underscoring the boat’s commitment to comfort during longer voyages.

Every inch of the 46 Coupe is designed for socializing and relaxation. The salon flows seamlessly from the aft cockpit, where a Kenyan grill, refrigerator (convertible to freezer or ice maker), and optional Makefast shade system transform the space into a top-tier entertaining area. Inside, a high-low table adds versatility to the salon, and a large optional sunroof lets in natural light for that open-air feeling—even when fully enclosed.

A Hull That Performs

While the interior speaks to comfort and luxury, the underbody of the 46 Coupe tells a performance story. Aquila is the leader in production-based boats with foil assist technology. This technology utilizes carbon fiber fixed foil, which activates at speeds over 21 mph, reducing wetted surface and hydrodynamic drag. Add to that a double-step hull and precision hull shaping, and the result is a boat that not only looks sleek, but truly moves.

With twin Mercury 600 V12 outboards standard, and optional Volvo Penta DPI 480 inboards, owners can choose the propulsion package that best fits their cruising needs. Both setups deliver impressive performance: wide open, the 46 Coupe can hit 48 to 49 mph, with comfortable cruising speeds between 35 and 42 mph.

Options That Elevate

Customization is key with the 46 Coupe. The aft deck can be configured differently depending on your engine choice, with various seating and entertainment setups available. The helm features three luxurious bucket seats, a top-tier nav station, and extensive options for navigation tech, camera systems, and displays. Forward, the bow is a plush sun lounge—perfect for those calm afternoons at anchor.

No matter where you sit aboard the 46 Coupe, the experience is pure Aquila: stable, smooth, and sumptuous. The catamaran platform delivers unmatched stability and space, while smart design choices ensure both efficiency and elegance.

The Future of the Coupe Line

The 46 Coupe is not the end of the story. Aquila has plans to expand the Coupe and Sport lines further, recognizing that owners today are looking for boats that can do it all—entertain, cruise, and perform.

If you’re looking for a stylish, performance-driven, and highly livable power catamaran, the Aquila 46 Coupe may just be the perfect fit.

Step aboard the Aquila 42 Coupe, and one of the first things you’ll notice is the sense of space. With a beam just under 16 feet (15’11”), this latest entry into the growing Coupe line from Aquila combines the stability and volume of a power catamaran with smart, family-friendly design and impressive cruising performance.

Aquila has long pushed the boundaries of what powercats can do, and the 42 Coupe continues that tradition, bringing together cutting-edge engineering, yacht-level amenities, and an entertainment-focused layout in a versatile, all-season platform.

Aquila 42 Coupe
The Aquila 42 Coupe comes standard with Mercury V10 400-hp outboards, delivering a cruise speed of 30 to 40 mph, with peak efficiency in the 35–37 mph range. Courtesy Aquila Boats

Design That Works—Everywhere

Thanks to its broad beam and powercat DNA, the 42 Coupe offers exceptional room without becoming unwieldy at the dock. It fits neatly into standard slips while still delivering a wide, open feel inside and out.

The benefits of that beam extend below the waterline too. High bridge deck clearance—the distance from the waterline to the underside of the tunnel between the hulls—minimizes wave slap, improves ride comfort, and helps reduce the well-known “cat sneeze” some multihulls suffer from. The result? A remarkably smooth and quiet ride, even in snotty conditions.

The 42 Coupe, paired with Aquila’s signature double-step hull, strikes an ideal balance between speed and fuel efficiency. Like its larger counterpart, the 46 Coupe, the 42 comes equipped with a standard fixed foil—now crafted from carbon fiber. This foil engages at speeds above 21 mph, gently lifting the hull to reduce drag, boost fuel economy, and extend cruising range—all while maintaining exceptional stability. While Aquila has long led the way in foil-assisted production boats, the introduction of carbon fiber on the Coupe models marks an exciting new evolution in performance and design.

Don’t want the foil? It’s optional, and Aquila will gladly deliver your boat without it. But for most owners, the benefits in performance and ride comfort make it a must-have.

Performance That Matches Its Looks

The Aquila 42 Coupe comes standard with Mercury V10 400-hp outboards, delivering a cruise speed of 30 to 40 mph, with peak efficiency in the 35–37 mph range. Wide open, you can expect speeds of up to 46–47 mph. Range at cruising speed is just over 300 miles, thanks to large fuel tanks and efficient hull geometry.

Prefer inboards? Aquila offers Volvo Penta DPI 400-hp sterndrive engines as an alternative, which brings different aft cockpit layout options as well.

Paired with Aquila’s double-step hull, the 42 Coupe delivers on both speed and efficiency. Courtesy Aquila Boats

Entertainment and Livability in Equal Measure

The layout of the 42 Coupe is all about maximizing time on the water with family and friends. The aft cockpit is a host’s dream, with an optional Kenyon electric grill, cooktop, fridge, ice maker, and plenty of storage for provisions. Inside, the salon seamlessly connects with the cockpit, offering a fully equipped galley, expansive built-in fridge, and generous seating around a convertible table.

Power systems include the C-Zone digital switching system, and owners can upgrade from the standard AGM batteries to a robust lithium-ion package. That, paired with the onboard generator, allows the boat to function self-sufficiently at anchor or while coastal cruising.

All this makes the 42 Coupe a fantastic platform for day trips, weekend getaways, and longer regional cruises.

Cruiser-Level Comfort

Belowdecks, the 42 Coupe features two well-appointed staterooms—one in each hull—each with its own dry head (no wet baths here) and aft-facing beds for maximum space and comfort. The primary cabin on the port side features a larger head and slightly more storage, while the guest cabin on starboard mirrors much of the same layout.

These cabins are positioned in the sponsons to optimize headroom and stability, and every inch is designed for livability—whether you’re out for a few nights or an extended coastal adventure.

A forward-facing chaise lounge on the bow is another highlight, offering a luxurious place to stretch out and soak up the ride underway.

The Start of Something Big

The 42 Coupe is the entry point into Aquila’s growing Coupe series, which also includes the 46 Coupe. But this is only the beginning. Aquila has a robust development pipeline, and the brand promises something new at nearly every boat show. The excitement is real—and for good reason.

For U.S. boaters, Aquila models can be seen and experienced at MarineMax dealerships nationwide. On the West Coast, visit Silver Seas Yachts; in the Upper Great Lakes, check out SkipperBud’s. International customers can locate their local dealer by country via Aquila’s website.

The Miami International Boat Show is scheduled to run February 12-16, with several brokerage houses announcing yachts that are expected to be on display for sale.

Y.CO says it will have the Sanlorenzo SL86 Ferrol at the Miami show. The asking price is $3.99 million for this 2017 build, whose twin MTU 12V 2000 M96 engines produce a reported top hop of 28 knots. Accommodations are for eight guests in four staterooms, with quarters to sleep four crew. Y.CO says Ferrol has had one owner since the yacht launched and has been “meticulously maintained.”

Sales broker James Pool at Y.CO adds: “Ferrol is an outstanding opportunity to own a Sanlorenzo SL86. With low engine hours, a strong cruising record in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and expert maintenance from a single owner, she is a reliable platform offering endless enjoyment. Her well-designed layout offers generous deck spaces and comfortable accommodation for eight guests. Equipped with powerful engines, zero-speed stabilizers, and with a top speed of 28 knots, Ferrol delivers both performance and versatility.”

Also expected to be available for tours at the Miami show is the Westport 130 Plan A, which is being advertised by Reel Deal Yachts. Plan A is a 2007 build with an asking price of $8.9 million, and with dockage available at Fisher Island near Miami.

According to the brokerage house, Plan A is the only Westport 130 that has teak caprails and skylights in the master head. The yacht got a new bottom job in 2023, a new paint job in 2022 and a new audiovisual system in 2021. It also has a new deck awning system. Top speed on this five-stateroom yacht is reportedly 22 knots.

Grand Banks 72 Aleutian Relentless

Another brokerage yacht bound for the Miami show is the Grand Banks 72 Aleutian Relentless, at the Galati Yacht Sales display. This 2006 build has an asking price of $1.795 million. According to the dealer, the knowledgeable owner has maintained the yacht “with an open checkbook” and just had major services completed, including a 1,000-hour service on the 1,550-horsepower Caterpillar C30 diesel engines, a full rebuild of both transmissions, new transmission coolers, new oil coolers, shafts pulled and checked, props scanned and retuned, six new air handlers installed and more.

Top speed on Relentless, according to Galati’s team, is near 27 knots with a cruise speed of 21 knots and an economical cruise under 11 knots.

How many boats are expected to be on display at this year’s Miami show? More than a thousand, between new and brokerage models combined.

Tiara 56 LS is Ready to Debut https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/tiara-56-ls-ready-to-debut/ Mon, 20 Jan 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=68035 Tiara Yachts is bringing the new 56 LS to the Miami International Boat Show in February.

Tiara Yachts is preparing to make a big splash at the Miami International Boat Show in February with the 56 LS—the largest, most ambitious outboard model the builder has ever created.

The debut of this model in the Luxury Sport series will come about six months after Tiara first announced the 56 LS, back in August 2024. Just based on that announcement’s virtual renderings and animations, the company says it already has multiple hulls on order.

“The enthusiasm we’ve already seen for the 56 LS is energizing,” Tom Slikkers, CEO and president of Tiara Yachts, stated in a press release. “It’s clear our customers recognize the quality and precision we bring to every Tiara model, and we can’t wait for people to experience the 56 LS in person for the first time at the Miami International Boat Show.”

Tiara Yachts 56 LS
Hullside terraces expand the 56 LS’s beam by more than 6 feet, creating additional space for sunbathing and watersports. Courtesy Tiara Yachts

Back in August, when the 56 LS model was announced, Slikkers described it as an evolution of previous models that Tiara Yachts has built.

“The Luxury Sport formula has been a successful one for Tiara, elevating the day yachting experience with versatile social zones and luxurious amenities.” he said at the time. “The 56 LS builds upon that foundation. Everything is amplified on this boat.”

The 56 LS will be the first quad-engine boat from Tiara Yachts, with four 600-horsepower Mercury Verados at the transom. Integrated electronics at the helm will include Garmin systems. In August, the builder projected a top speed of nearly 50 knots, making this boat one of the fastest Tiaras ever built.

There are customizable social zones on deck adaptable for entertaining, fishing or lounging. Courtesy Tiara Yachts

Out on deck, owners can customize the social spaces to prioritize entertaining or fishing. The model is designed to be used for both types of enthusiast cruising, as well as for overnights and longer journeys. There are two staterooms belowdecks along with two heads.

At anchor, the boat’s hullside terraces to port and starboard can be opened. Tiara says this feature expands the boat’s beam by more than 6 feet, creating even more guest relaxation space for sunbathing and watersports.

Will Tiara Yachts have other models at the Miami show, in addition to the new 56 LS? Yes. Tiara, which is based in Holland, Michigan, builds inboard and outboard models from 34 to 60 feet length overall. The builder’s entire 2025 model year lineup is expected to be on display at the Miami show, including the EX 60, EX 54, 48 LE, 48 LS, 43 LE, 43 LS, 38 LS, 34 LS and 34 LX.

Tiara is planning to premiere the 56 LS at the Miami International Boat Show in February 2025.

Tiara Yachts in Holland, Michigan, is planning for the debut of its 56 LS at the Miami International Boat Show that’s scheduled to take place February 12-16, 2025.

The Tiara 56 LS is the largest, most ambitious of Tiara’s outboard models to date—the brand’s first quad-outboard model, with four 600-horsepower Mercury Verado V-12 engines. Top speed, according to Tiara, will be about 50 knots, also making the 56 LS one of the fastest boats that Tiara has ever built.

“The Luxury Sport formula has been a successful one for Tiara, elevating the day yachting experience with versatile social zones and luxurious amenities. The 56 LS builds upon that foundation. Everything is amplified on this boat,” Tiara Yachts CEO Tom Slikkers stated in a press release. “I’m confident our customers are going to be just as excited as we are about this addition to our portfolio.”

Exterior spaces on the 56 LS include a galley overlooking the cockpit, where two module options—for entertaining or fishing—are available as the owner’s choice. Port and starboard hullside terraces expand the beam by more than 6 feet. At the helm, the integrated electronics package includes Garmin systems.

Belowdecks, two staterooms and two heads can sleep five people for overnight or extended stays.

“Our LS line has been a favorite of our customers, and we’re eager to showcase this new addition to our portfolio,” Andrew Bartlett, director of design at Tiara, stated in the press release. “Our customers will find multiple features on board that allow them to enjoy the water, entertain family and friends, and comfortably stay overnight. As outboard models continue to have a resurgence in the boating industry, we’re excited to introduce another Tiara to the market.”

How many other models are in Tiara’s Luxury Sport line? The 56 is the fifth. The four other LS models range from 34 to 48 feet length overall. The Luxury Sport line is one of four series the builder offers. The other three are the LX, LE and EX.

Following on the heels of its successful 60 EX flagship launch, Michigan-based yacht builder Tiara Yachts is expanding the EX yacht series with the EX 54, slated to debut at the Miami International Boat Show in February.

One of the hallmarks of the series is its flexibility for owners to dial in how they want to live their on-the-water lifestyle.

Outside, Tiara offers a lounge module with U-shaped seating, an outdoor galley, solid-surface countertops, a drawer-style refrigerator and optional ice maker for owners’ who like to entertain.

The EX 54’s adventure module turns this area into a fishing-focused space with a sink with a cutting board, an optional livewell, five rod holders at the transom, an insulated cooler tub, tackle stowage with dividers and even an electric grill to cook the catch of the day.

There is also a glass patio module, which includes a laminated-glass bulkhead with a high-gloss teak countertop and adjustable ottomans that can be locked in place. They are made with Ultraleather and come with four color options: whitewater beige, lighthouse white, coast dolphin grey and sea cliff grey. There is also aft-facing seating with a table and a portable grill. The table and grill can be stowed when not in use. Additionally, this module has options for a bike rack and kayak stowage.

In any layout, there are three staterooms accommodating six guests with two heads. The owners’ stateroom is full-beam and amidships with a queen pedestal berth and en suite head. The space has ocean views via hull-side windows. Other room amenities include 18,000-Btu Webasto air conditioning, a 50-inch Smart HDTV TV, cedar-lined hanging locker, full-length backlit mirror, a settee and stowage.

The VIP stateroom has a queen berth with skylight as well as a 32-inch Smart HDTV. This space also has hull-side windows to take in water views. The third guest stateroom has bunk berths for the kids.

Supporting this family-friendly cruising craft is a fiberglass hull with closed-cell foam in the hull bottom and sides for strength without added weight. The deck is also built with closed-cell foam. A full fiberglass grid system set into the hull bottom adds rigidity and additional strength.

Other notable options for the Tiara Yachts EX 54 are a hydraulic swim platform, a Seakeeper 9 gyrostabilizer, a second joystick in the cockpit deck wing, an extra Garmin 22-inch display, FLIR night vision, a washer/driver and a cockpit TV, to name a few.

Princess Yachts continues to bring out new models at a fast pace, with investments in product development reaping big rewards for boaters this autumn and in early 2024.

The biggest news is the premiere of the Princess Y95, which is headed to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show for its Americas debut following a showing at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Another new model headed to Fort Lauderdale is the Princess X80, which premiered for North American boaters at the Palm Beach International Boat Show earlier this year.

And, coming in spring 2024 are the Princess Y80 (look for it at the Palm Beach International Boat Show) along with the Princess S65.

Princess Yachts Y95: New Y Class Flagship

The Y Class models at Princess Yachts are open-flybridge designs with the option of a hardtop. The Y Class includes vessels 72 feet and larger with crew spaces, while another open-flybridge line, the F Class, has vessels 45 to 65 feet that are built for owner-operators.

Within the Y Class, the Princess Y95 is the new flagship. It has accommodations for 10 people, a top speed of 24 knots, and lots of relaxation spaces inside and out.

Princess Yachts Y95: Unbeatable Volume

A key design element of the Princess Y95 is interior volume. This yacht is built to feel bigger than similar-length motoryachts. Not only are there five staterooms on board, but the master spans the yacht’s full beam, with skylights for extra natural light.

The Princess Y95’s volume also allows for multiple options when it’s time to dine and relax. There are seating and dining spaces inside on the main deck, outside on the main deck, and outside on the flybridge. Additional sun beds and seating are at the foredeck for unparalleled views of the scenery all around.

Princess Yachts Y95: Luxurious Finishes

Inside and out, the materials that go into the Princess Y95’s construction are of the highest quality. Interior furnishings can be ordered standard in alba or rovere oak with a satin lacquer finish. There are additional options for furniture in silver oak or walnut with a choice of satin or gloss lacquer finishes. Stonework too can be personalized, with marble, quartz or granite floors in the guest-stateroom bathrooms and granite or quartz countertops in the galley.

Additional choices are wide-ranging for carpets and fabrics, to give owners exactly the tones and textures they prefer.

Princess Yachts X80: New X Class Luxury

The X Class lineup is the only one that Princess Yachts offers with an enclosed sky lounge. This line’s first (and flagship) model is the X95, with the new Princess X80 becoming the second offering this year.

Owners of the Princess X80 get a choice in the layout: main-deck dining or a main-deck stateroom. James Nobel, vice president and marketing director at Princess Yachts America, says that the yard has built two hulls with the main-deck stateroom, while all other owners opted for the main-deck dining. “There’s a lot of flexibility in that model,” he says.

Princess Yachts X80: Light and Spacious on All Decks

Glazing is the term that means glass incorporated into a window frame or wall. Glazing is about more than views; it’s also about smart construction for impact resistance and to help keep the inside of a vessel cool, even on the hottest of days.

Aboard the Princess Yachts X80, there is extensive glazing along the entire length of the main deck. Substantial glazing is all around the X80’s salon, galley and dining area, melding light and design for an improved onboard experience. Designers also increased the heights of the bulwarks, topsides and enclosed wheelhouse, creating even more of a feeling of spaciousness.

Princess Yachts X80: Super Flybridge

Princess calls the X80’s top deck a “super flybridge” because it has 30 percent more useful interior space than a traditional flybridge on a yacht of the same length.

The X80’s flybridge has multiple seating areas for dining, conversing, or kicking back with a good book. Its interior spaces are protected from the elements, while its outdoor section is open for fresh air.

For added protection, the open areas on the flybridge have substantive railings that don’t interfere with the views, but that do keep the owners and guests safe at anchor or underway. The positioning of lounge areas forward and aft means guests can enjoy privacy no matter where the yacht is tied up or anchored.

Princess Yachts Y80: Coming in 2024

The Princess Yachts Y80 is expected to make its Americas debut at the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show. This is an eight-person yacht with a top speed of 33 knots and an open flybridge that’s ready for relaxation or entertaining.

As the fourth model in the Princess Yachts Y Line (which also includes the Y95, Y85 and Y72), the Princess Y80 shares the best features from her sisterships while adding new refinements.

Princess Yachts Y80: Customizable Spaces

All of the Princess Y80 hulls are outfitted with seating and dining areas, as well as a fully equipped wet bar. However, owners have a choice for the rest of the flybridge layout. A crane for a tender can be hidden within the sun pad, or that space can be used for free-standing loungers or a hot tub.

Another choice awaits on the main deck, where the layout includes the Y80’s galley and wheelhouse. Owners who want a more free-flowing ambience can leave these spaces open to one another, or, for more privacy, the yacht can be ordered with partitions.

Princess Yachts Y80: Ready for Family and Friends

Overnight accommodations on the Princess Y80 are all belowdecks, with four staterooms for eight people in total. The master stateroom is amidships—the part of the yacht with the least motion, for comfort at anchor—and spans the full beam. The master bathroom is abaft the sleeping space, giving the Y80’s owners an extra sound barrier from the engine space farther aft.

Double-berth staterooms for guests are far forward and to starboard, with a twin-berth stateroom to port. All of the staterooms are en suite.
