Most people who had just flown halfway around the world from South Africa to Florida would be pretty darn tired. But Tim Derrico, director of sales at HMY Yachts, the designated ECLIPSE Yachts dealer, could hardly contain his excitement.

He was just back from his most recent visit to the shipyard that builds the ECLIPSE 505 Shadow and its new sistership, the ECLIPSE 605 Shadow. It’s a massive shipyard that turns out custom catamarans up to 75 feet long, in addition to rescue boats for the South African government. “The high level of quality is clear – they know what they’re doing. Their key people have been in the industry for a long time and the team knows how to build production boats and get things done,” Derrico said in late June. “It’s really quite the operation. When you walk into the ECLIPSE building, there are a handful of boats in build.

The ECLIPSE 505 Shadow is already a hit with HMY’s customers, he says. Several satisfied owners are using the versatile boats in all kinds of different ways.

“We hear it from everybody: They look great; they perform great,” he says. “These express cruisers have a  lot of the features that people are looking for today in cruising outboard boats. From island hopping around the Bahamas to cruising the Eastern Seaboard, it’s a great open water boat —it’s a Michael Peters design. You want  the nicest sandbar boat? There you go . Because it’s an outboard boat, you can push the bow right up on the sandbar, put the balcony down, and you’ve got it.”

ECLIPSE Yachts

The ECLIPSE 605 Shadow will be all of that and more, in a bigger package that has three staterooms and three heads. The first 605 Shadow’s hull and deck are done, with the second hull in the mold as of midsummer.

As with the 505 Shadow, the 605 Shadow is being designed from day one to include outboard power. ECLIPSE teamed up with Michael Peters Yacht Design to bring this express cruiser  series to life. That’s a big deal, according to John Dial, Eclipse sales manager for HMY Yachts.

“There are other boats out there that are constructed with a similar layout and look , but I don’t think there are many boats constructed with a hull laid specifically for this kind of performance,” Dial says. “A lot of builders in the express cruiser space will hang outboards on them and glass on a bracket, but the boat isn’t constructed at the level ECLIPSE offers. You’ll see hulls modified one way or the other.”

Dial says the design and construction quality is evident in the way each ECLIPSE hull comes out of the mold at the shipyard. The method utilized for the gelcoat and paint creates an extra quality-control step for every single ECLIPSE boat.

ECLIPSE Yachts
Courtesy ECLIPSE Yachts

“Generally speaking, there are two types of boats,” Dial explains. “There are those that are painted and those that will be painted, according to my old friend and boat builder Bob Roscioli. A manufacturer using a pigmented gelcoat in the process will put the desired color gelcoat in the mold so that it comes out with the colored gelcoat exterior on it.” Gelcoat is higher annual maintenance than painted boats due to the need to buff more frequently to maintain the shine.

On the ECLIPSE line, by contrast, the gelcoat is applied clear and then gets faired, sanded, then painted with multiple coats of quality paint and final layers of clear coat in the production process. The clear gelcoat allows the shipyard team to see if there are any imperfections in the layup process. “It’s like looking at a glass window of the layup,” Dial says. “A lot of boats out there now are exterior pigmented colored gelcoat because it’s a less-expensive way to build.”

On the other side of the coin,  the level of attention to detail at ECLIPSE he adds, is something that sets the brand  apart from competing boatbuilders. “What we’re doing with ECLIPSE is going over everything with a fine-tooth comb.”

ECLIPSE Yachts
Courtesy ECLIPSE Yachts

Dial says boaters who want to check out the ECLIPSE line can visit the HMY Yachts Sales Willoughby Creek facility in Stuart, Florida. The company has two of the 505 models there, with one of them being used as a demo boat. There is a third boat being displayed at Northern boat show events so that people can experience, in person, what the ECLIPSE line is. From the Florida location, he adds, it’s easy to do a test run and get a real feel for how the boat handles on the water.

“We’re 15 minutes to the inlet, and we can run in any kind of weather for test runs,” Dial says. “And this boat only drafts about 3 feet. You can trim up motors and go in shallow waters in it. You can cruise this boat very comfortably and economically at 38 knots. That’s good in anybody’s book. That’s here to West End, Bahamas, in two hours with no problem.”

Dial says he also sees a lot of applications for cruising the ECLIPSE boats in other parts of the country too.

“For South Florida,  New England, or the lowcountry, these boats are perfect,” Dial says. “You can run from Hilton Head to Charleston or Savannah for the day or throughout the weekend. The ECLIPSE 605 Shadow, with its additional onboard space and creature comforts, will be good for all of that and more. Derrico says that while the hope is for the first ECLIPSE 605 Shadow to be ready in time for the fall and winter boat-show seasons at the end of 2025 and into early 2026, the company isn’t rushing to make any deadlines.

The top priority is quality, he says, no matter how long it takes to get everything just right.

“We want to work with urgency, but let’s not rush,” Derrico says.  “Our philosophy only allows for doing things the right way.”

When you hear a yacht owner say a single word to describe what drew them to their vessel—and that word is style—you know you’re about to experience something unique.

I recently had the pleasure of stepping aboard the Aquitalia 78, accompanied by Aaron Leatherwood, brand ambassador for Aquitalia Yachts, to explore the Italian-built flagship making its North American debut. The 78 leads a lineup that includes a 68, 88, and 95, and it sets the tone for a brand eager to make waves on this side of the Atlantic.

A Modern Italian Interior, Revitalized

From the moment you step into the salon, the 78 surrounds you with a tactile sense of refinement. “Aquitalia has a deep heritage in Italian yacht design,” Leatherwood tells me. “For this new series, they’ve revitalized that design language in a way that feels both timeless and forward-thinking.”

Leather, high-gloss wood accents, brushed metals, and elegant finishes combine to create an interior that’s not just visually luxurious—it’s experientially so. The salon is warm, spacious, and filled with natural light, encouraging both relaxation and socializing. Every detail has been thought through to strike the balance between elegance and comfort.

Customization That Sets a New Standard

One of Aquitalia’s standout strengths is their flexibility. “This is a semi-custom builder that truly listens to the client,” says Leatherwood. Owners can request lighter or darker woods, different upholstery colors, tailored galley layouts, or reconfigured seating areas. The 78 becomes an extension of the owner’s lifestyle, not just a yacht—but a curated living space.

A Master Suite That Rivals Home

Below deck, the four-stateroom layout is anchored by an exceptional master suite. Accessible via a private staircase, the full-beam master stateroom offers rare privacy and space, with amenities more commonly found in high-end residences. From the plush seating and desk area to the massive flat-screen TV and a full walk-in closet (truly his and hers), this space redefines onboard comfort.

“The master bath is also full-beam, with stone, wood, and metallic accents creating a spa-like atmosphere,” Leatherwood says. “It’s a space that consistently impresses—it’s hard to get people to leave once they’ve been down there.”

Outdoor Living, Elevated

Entertainment doesn’t stop at the salon. In fact, the Aquitalia 78 boasts more exterior entertainment space than interior. The aft deck features a large dining table with seating for eight, while the foredeck transforms into a social hub with room for 12–15 guests to lounge. The flybridge is a showstopper: two oversized settees, generous wet bar, abundant refrigeration, and storage all set the stage for unforgettable gatherings at sea.

Power and Performance

Underway, the Aquitalia 78 is no slouch. This particular model is powered by twin Volvo D13s for a total of 2,000 horsepower, reaching a top speed of around 19 to 20 knots. However, clients can select from a variety of propulsion options, including Caterpillar, MAN, or MTU powerplants—opening the door to 25–30 knot performance depending on configuration.

A Builder With a Legacy

With nearly 30 years of experience in both commercial and recreational marine industries, Aquitalia Yachts brings a rich heritage of boatbuilding to the table. Now, with models built to ABYC standards and enhanced for American preferences, the brand is poised for strong entry into the U.S. market.

“We’re excited to Americanize the Aquitalia brand,” Leatherwood says. “It’s a product that brings European elegance, proven performance, and serious customization potential to discerning buyers here.”

When Aquila debuted the 36 Sport Power Catamaran, few could have predicted the impact it would have on the global market. Approaching 300 units sold worldwide, the model helped redefine expectations for comfort, performance, and utility in the power catamaran space. Now, Aquila has taken everything they’ve learned from their successful lineup—including the Sport, Yacht, and Center Console lines—and delivered something refreshingly different: the new Aquila 46 Coupe.

A Vision Rooted in Evolution

The 46 Coupe isn’t just another model—it’s a response to shifting trends in how boaters want to cruise. Over the past few years, Aquila has seen increasing demand for what they call the “Cruiser Package”: a fully enclosed helm, a full-height windshield, and an entertainment-first layout. This led to the creation of the Aquila Coupe line, starting with the 42 Coupe and now culminating in the all-new 46.

Designed for Extended Escapes

The 46 Coupe is built for more than day trips. It’s a genuine regional cruiser, offering the comforts of larger yachts while retaining the sporty DNA of Aquila’s smaller models. Inside, the two-stateroom, two-head layout offers unexpected luxury. The primary cabin features a full king-size berth facing outboard for excellent views, while the guest stateroom to port offers ample space and privacy. Both cabins are equipped with dry heads and full showers, underscoring the boat’s commitment to comfort during longer voyages.

Every inch of the 46 Coupe is designed for socializing and relaxation. The salon flows seamlessly from the aft cockpit, where a Kenyan grill, refrigerator (convertible to freezer or ice maker), and optional Makefast shade system transform the space into a top-tier entertaining area. Inside, a high-low table adds versatility to the salon, and a large optional sunroof lets in natural light for that open-air feeling—even when fully enclosed.

A Hull That Performs

While the interior speaks to comfort and luxury, the underbody of the 46 Coupe tells a performance story. Aquila is the leader in production-based boats with foil assist technology. This technology utilizes carbon fiber fixed foil, which activates at speeds over 21 mph, reducing wetted surface and hydrodynamic drag. Add to that a double-step hull and precision hull shaping, and the result is a boat that not only looks sleek, but truly moves.

With twin Mercury 600 V12 outboards standard, and optional Volvo Penta DPI 480 inboards, owners can choose the propulsion package that best fits their cruising needs. Both setups deliver impressive performance: wide open, the 46 Coupe can hit 48 to 49 mph, with comfortable cruising speeds between 35 and 42 mph.

Options That Elevate

Customization is key with the 46 Coupe. The aft deck can be configured differently depending on your engine choice, with various seating and entertainment setups available. The helm features three luxurious bucket seats, a top-tier nav station, and extensive options for navigation tech, camera systems, and displays. Forward, the bow is a plush sun lounge—perfect for those calm afternoons at anchor.

No matter where you sit aboard the 46 Coupe, the experience is pure Aquila: stable, smooth, and sumptuous. The catamaran platform delivers unmatched stability and space, while smart design choices ensure both efficiency and elegance.

The Future of the Coupe Line

The 46 Coupe is not the end of the story. Aquila has plans to expand the Coupe and Sport lines further, recognizing that owners today are looking for boats that can do it all—entertain, cruise, and perform.

If you’re looking for a stylish, performance-driven, and highly livable power catamaran, the Aquila 46 Coupe may just be the perfect fit.

Step aboard the Aquila 42 Coupe, and one of the first things you’ll notice is the sense of space. With a beam just under 16 feet (15’11”), this latest entry into the growing Coupe line from Aquila combines the stability and volume of a power catamaran with smart, family-friendly design and impressive cruising performance.

Aquila has long pushed the boundaries of what powercats can do, and the 42 Coupe continues that tradition, bringing together cutting-edge engineering, yacht-level amenities, and an entertainment-focused layout in a versatile, all-season platform.

Aquila 42 Coupe
The Aquila 42 Coupe comes standard with Mercury V10 400-hp outboards, delivering a cruise speed of 30 to 40 mph, with peak efficiency in the 35–37 mph range. Courtesy Aquila Boats

Design That Works—Everywhere

Thanks to its broad beam and powercat DNA, the 42 Coupe offers exceptional room without becoming unwieldy at the dock. It fits neatly into standard slips while still delivering a wide, open feel inside and out.

The benefits of that beam extend below the waterline too. High bridge deck clearance—the distance from the waterline to the underside of the tunnel between the hulls—minimizes wave slap, improves ride comfort, and helps reduce the well-known “cat sneeze” some multihulls suffer from. The result? A remarkably smooth and quiet ride, even in snotty conditions.

The 42 Coupe, paired with Aquila’s signature double-step hull, strikes an ideal balance between speed and fuel efficiency. Like its larger counterpart, the 46 Coupe, the 42 comes equipped with a standard fixed foil—now crafted from carbon fiber. This foil engages at speeds above 21 mph, gently lifting the hull to reduce drag, boost fuel economy, and extend cruising range—all while maintaining exceptional stability. While Aquila has long led the way in foil-assisted production boats, the introduction of carbon fiber on the Coupe models marks an exciting new evolution in performance and design.

Don’t want the foil? It’s optional, and Aquila will gladly deliver your boat without it. But for most owners, the benefits in performance and ride comfort make it a must-have.

Performance That Matches Its Looks

The Aquila 42 Coupe comes standard with Mercury V10 400-hp outboards, delivering a cruise speed of 30 to 40 mph, with peak efficiency in the 35–37 mph range. Wide open, you can expect speeds of up to 46–47 mph. Range at cruising speed is just over 300 miles, thanks to large fuel tanks and efficient hull geometry.

Prefer inboards? Aquila offers Volvo Penta DPI 400-hp sterndrive engines as an alternative, which brings different aft cockpit layout options as well.

Aquila 42 Coupe
Paired with Aquila’s double-step hull, the 42 Coupe delivers on both speed and efficiency. Courtesy Aquila Boats

Entertainment and Livability in Equal Measure

The layout of the 42 Coupe is all about maximizing time on the water with family and friends. The aft cockpit is a host’s dream, with an optional Kenyon electric grill, cooktop, fridge, ice maker, and plenty of storage for provisions. Inside, the salon seamlessly connects with the cockpit, offering a fully equipped galley, expansive built-in fridge, and generous seating around a convertible table.

Power systems include the C-Zone digital switching system, and owners can upgrade from the standard AGM batteries to a robust lithium-ion package. That, paired with the onboard generator, allows the boat to function self-sufficiently at anchor or while coastal cruising.

All this makes the 42 Coupe a fantastic platform for day trips, weekend getaways, and longer regional cruises.

Cruiser-Level Comfort

Belowdecks, the 42 Coupe features two well-appointed staterooms—one in each hull—each with its own dry head (no wet baths here) and aft-facing beds for maximum space and comfort. The primary cabin on the port side features a larger head and slightly more storage, while the guest cabin on starboard mirrors much of the same layout.

These cabins are positioned in the sponsons to optimize headroom and stability, and every inch is designed for livability—whether you’re out for a few nights or an extended coastal adventure.

A forward-facing chaise lounge on the bow is another highlight, offering a luxurious place to stretch out and soak up the ride underway.

The Start of Something Big

The 42 Coupe is the entry point into Aquila’s growing Coupe series, which also includes the 46 Coupe. But this is only the beginning. Aquila has a robust development pipeline, and the brand promises something new at nearly every boat show. The excitement is real—and for good reason.

For U.S. boaters, Aquila models can be seen and experienced at MarineMax dealerships nationwide. On the West Coast, visit Silver Seas Yachts; in the Upper Great Lakes, check out SkipperBud’s. International customers can locate their local dealer by country via Aquila’s website.

That spirit lives on today, passed from generation to generation, as families return each summer to create new memories in our corner of paradise.

This past April, Princess Yachts America hosted their annual Princess Spring Owners Holiday in The Abacos at the picturesque Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina.  The event marked the twenty-fourth Owners Holiday since Princess Yachts America began hosting them twice annually in 2012 and was one of the largest gatherings of Princess owners to date with over 45 Princess Yachts in attendance and a group of owners, guests, staff, dealers, and vendors totaling nearly 400 attendees.

Upon arrival into Boat Harbour Marina, owners and guests were greeted with a traditional island cocktail and gift bag of custom Princess branded “goodies” to help them get settled for the long weekend.  The festivities kicked off with a “Welcome In” celebration with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails on the beach adjacent to the marina highlighted by music and dancing in the sand to close out a memorable first day.

A full breakfast buffet was in order to fuel everyone up for a busy second day that offered a range of activities including a competitive pickleball tournament, as well as a palm frond weaving class hosted by a local artist.  An afternoon run to the picturesque Pete’s Pub was followed by a Princess Owners Happy Hour hosted at the beautiful “Shangri La” home of the owners of the Princess X80 “Lanikai.”  Topping it off was an evening of dinner, drinks, and dancing at the incomparable Abaco Inn that offered views of both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic Ocean.  Guests were especially thrilled by the surprise appearance of a local traditional Bahamian junkanoo band who delighted attendees with joyful trumpets, beating drums, and elaborately decorated costumes to close out an unforgettable evening.

Day three of the event opened with a floral design class where attendees created magnificent tropical centerpieces to bring back to their Princess.  Meanwhile, over 400 chairs and nearly 100 umbrellas were being set up for an incredible beach day on the white sands of Abaco Beach Resort.  Guests were treated to food, refreshments, and live music and had the opportunity to go paddleboarding, kayaking, tubing, take part in remote control boat races, and try the latest underwater toys from SeaBob.  Shoreside games including four square, spike ball, yard pong, and volleyball provided the perfect precursor to the ever-competitive egg toss competition.  Following a full day of beach fun, guests had time to unwind and explore the many outstanding culinary options that The Abacos have to offer.

The event’s fourth day offered a chance to explore some of the most popular Sunday excursions The Abacos have to offer including a raft up at Tahiti Beach with refreshments at the Thirsty Cuda floating pontoon bar and a run out to scenic Guana Cay to visit the world famous Grabbers restaurant and Nippers oceanfront bar.  As the sun set, a full course dinner buffet and awards ceremony at Abaco Beach Resort was followed by dessert and a bonfire on the beach with live music, dancing, junkanoo parade, and fireworks over the Sea of Abaco to close out the event.

World-class destinations are such an important part of what we all love about the cruising lifestyle, and The Abacos provided a fantastic venue to enjoy the best of The Bahamas.  Princess Yachts America was pleased to welcome dealer representatives from Chesapeake Yacht Center, Galati Yacht Sales, HMY Yacht Sales, Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales, Oyster Harbors Marine, and SI Yachts who were on hand to support customers at the event.  Additional support from Princess Yachts, Atlantic Marine Electronics, Bluewater Chairs, Canvas Designers, Complete Marine Freight, Marine Solutions, Quickstep Marine, SeaBob, Valhalla Yacht Sales, Williams Tenders, and Yachting Magazine helped make the event a resounding success.

In 2025, Princess Yachts proudly celebrates its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of setting the standard in luxury yacht craftsmanship. What began in a modest boatyard in Plymouth, England, in 1965 has grown into one of the world’s most respected yacht brands, known for its uncompromising commitment to design, performance, and innovation. The company was founded by David King and two friends, and their first vessel—Project 31—quickly captured the attention of boating enthusiasts across the UK. That modest beginning laid the groundwork for a global brand that today represents British marine engineering at its finest.

Over the years, Princess Yachts has continually evolved while remaining true to its founding values. From the sleek and sporty V Class to the elegant F Class flybridge models and the expansive X Class superyachts, the brand has consistently introduced segment-defining designs. Today, Princess operates from a state-of-the-art facility in Plymouth, employing over 3,000 people and exporting yachts to more than 65 countries. This growth reflects a balance of heritage craftsmanship with forward-thinking technology, keeping Princess at the forefront of luxury marine innovation.

To mark its 60th anniversary, Princess has launched a special edition of one of its most iconic models—the V40. The 60th Anniversary Edition V40 features a refreshed exterior profile, a unique vignetted hull graphic, and a ’60 years’ emblem integrated throughout the design. Customizable canopy flashes and color-matched upholstery enhance the sense of exclusivity, while a bespoke three-spoke steering wheel and embroidered helm seat add elegant finishing touches. It’s a celebration not just of a model, but of a legacy built on precision, luxury, and style.

The company is also engaging clients, dealers, and yacht enthusiasts worldwide through a year-long celebration that includes exclusive events, brand storytelling campaigns, and international showcases. One of the major highlights of the year is the British Motor Yacht Show, where Princess Motor Yacht Sales will display the V40 60th Anniversary Edition alongside several new and flagship models, such as the all-new F58, the innovative Y72, and the dynamic S65. These appearances provide a unique opportunity for the public and press to experience firsthand the quality and evolution of Princess Yachts.

Throughout 2025, Princess is emphasizing not just its past, but its vision for the future. With sustainability becoming an increasingly important focus in the yachting industry, Princess continues to invest in research and development that aims to reduce environmental impact. Recent efforts have included hybrid propulsion trials and new hull designs aimed at improving efficiency and reducing emissions. As the company looks ahead, its leadership remains committed to blending timeless design with responsible innovation—ensuring that Princess continues to define the future of luxury yachting.

CEO Will Green reflected on the milestone by saying, “Reaching our 60th anniversary is a momentous achievement that fills us with immense pride. It’s a testament to the enduring commitment of our talented team—past and present—and the loyalty of our clients around the world. This is not just about reflecting on our rich history of craftsmanship and innovation, though. It is as much about looking forward to the next 60 years and ensuring we continue to deliver exciting, segment-defining products with that distinctive, unparalleled Princess luxury.” His words underscore the company’s dual focus on honoring its heritage while shaping what’s next.

As Princess Yachts embarks on this celebratory year, the brand remains a symbol of British luxury and engineering. From the first sketch of Project 31 to the digitally designed hulls of today’s superyachts, the Princess story is one of passion, precision, and progress. Whether you’re stepping aboard a classic model or experiencing a next-generation flagship, the spirit of Princess Yachts endures: one of excellence without compromise. And as the company looks ahead to the decades to come, its legacy is as vibrant and ambitious as ever.

We’ve all been there. Load the boat with gear, prep the tackle, store the food and drinks, everyone is excited about enjoying a day on the water, turn the key to start the motor—and nothing happens. Ugh!

Michael Kiel, founder and CEO of Boat Planet, has been there too. “There’s nothing worse than looking forward to boating and then something goes wrong,” he sighs. That’s why Kiel developed Boat Planet, an online boating resource that helps boaters connect with service providers.

After several bad experiences with mechanics and detailers, Kiel was frustrated with the status quo. “I would arrive to the marina on a Friday afternoon to find a dirty boat with the cover still on,” he remembers. One time, a mechanic left a greasy motor part on Kiel’s upholstery to signal the job was done. “Why was I spending a lot of money for this level of service?” he asked.

So Kiel started a Facebook group for boaters. “I realized a lot of people are facing the same problems,” he says. He also realized service providers were looking for a new way to reach customers. Tapping his experience in marketing and inspired by user-friendly rideshare apps, Kiel cooked up Boat Planet, a painless way for boaters to book service, repair, detailing and more.

To use BoatPlanet.com, a boater submits a request by filling out an online form and providing photos and a detailed description of the required work. Boat Planet sends the request for a quote to several local service providers in the boater’s area. The site hosts over 35,000 certified service providers backed by user reviews.

After the request is submitted, the boater receives up to three quotes for the required service. Kiel recommends including photos and detailed descriptions for the most accurate quote.

Once the boater accepts a quote, they pay for the job on Boat Planet’s site. Boat Planet holds the funds until the boater verifies the work was completed satisfactorily. Then Boat Planet immediately releases the payment to the provider’s bank account. “We provide financial protection to the boater while ensuring the service provider gets paid for the work,” Kiel adds.

Any issues between the boater and service provider are handled by Boat Planet’s online help center. “Ninety-nine percent of the time, we find a solution to the problem,” Kiel says. Both boaters and providers appreciate the easy communication through the Boat Planet platform.

Boat Planet boasts over 100,000 users and a nationwide network of service pros. Available services range from maintenance and repair to detailing, electronics and more. Creating a job request on BoatPlanet.com takes only minutes. Quotes come in as quickly as a couple of hours, but can vary depending on the boat’s location.

Boat Planet is developing an industry-first feature that will send boaters service reminders based on their boat’s location, usage and the time of year. The company will also launch a mobile app to improve the user experience. “I want to provide boaters with everything they need to enjoy the boating lifestyle with less stress and headaches,” Kiel says.
