This past April, Princess Yachts America hosted their annual Princess Spring Owners Holiday in The Abacos at the picturesque Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina.  The event marked the twenty-fourth Owners Holiday since Princess Yachts America began hosting them twice annually in 2012 and was one of the largest gatherings of Princess owners to date with over 45 Princess Yachts in attendance and a group of owners, guests, staff, dealers, and vendors totaling nearly 400 attendees.

Upon arrival into Boat Harbour Marina, owners and guests were greeted with a traditional island cocktail and gift bag of custom Princess branded “goodies” to help them get settled for the long weekend.  The festivities kicked off with a “Welcome In” celebration with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails on the beach adjacent to the marina highlighted by music and dancing in the sand to close out a memorable first day.

A full breakfast buffet was in order to fuel everyone up for a busy second day that offered a range of activities including a competitive pickleball tournament, as well as a palm frond weaving class hosted by a local artist.  An afternoon run to the picturesque Pete’s Pub was followed by a Princess Owners Happy Hour hosted at the beautiful “Shangri La” home of the owners of the Princess X80 “Lanikai.”  Topping it off was an evening of dinner, drinks, and dancing at the incomparable Abaco Inn that offered views of both the Sea of Abaco and the Atlantic Ocean.  Guests were especially thrilled by the surprise appearance of a local traditional Bahamian junkanoo band who delighted attendees with joyful trumpets, beating drums, and elaborately decorated costumes to close out an unforgettable evening.

Day three of the event opened with a floral design class where attendees created magnificent tropical centerpieces to bring back to their Princess.  Meanwhile, over 400 chairs and nearly 100 umbrellas were being set up for an incredible beach day on the white sands of Abaco Beach Resort.  Guests were treated to food, refreshments, and live music and had the opportunity to go paddleboarding, kayaking, tubing, take part in remote control boat races, and try the latest underwater toys from SeaBob.  Shoreside games including four square, spike ball, yard pong, and volleyball provided the perfect precursor to the ever-competitive egg toss competition.  Following a full day of beach fun, guests had time to unwind and explore the many outstanding culinary options that The Abacos have to offer.

The event’s fourth day offered a chance to explore some of the most popular Sunday excursions The Abacos have to offer including a raft up at Tahiti Beach with refreshments at the Thirsty Cuda floating pontoon bar and a run out to scenic Guana Cay to visit the world famous Grabbers restaurant and Nippers oceanfront bar.  As the sun set, a full course dinner buffet and awards ceremony at Abaco Beach Resort was followed by dessert and a bonfire on the beach with live music, dancing, junkanoo parade, and fireworks over the Sea of Abaco to close out the event.

World-class destinations are such an important part of what we all love about the cruising lifestyle, and The Abacos provided a fantastic venue to enjoy the best of The Bahamas.  Princess Yachts America was pleased to welcome dealer representatives from Chesapeake Yacht Center, Galati Yacht Sales, HMY Yacht Sales, Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales, Oyster Harbors Marine, and SI Yachts who were on hand to support customers at the event.  Additional support from Princess Yachts, Atlantic Marine Electronics, Bluewater Chairs, Canvas Designers, Complete Marine Freight, Marine Solutions, Quickstep Marine, SeaBob, Valhalla Yacht Sales, Williams Tenders, and Yachting Magazine helped make the event a resounding success.

In 2025, Princess Yachts proudly celebrates its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of setting the standard in luxury yacht craftsmanship. What began in a modest boatyard in Plymouth, England, in 1965 has grown into one of the world’s most respected yacht brands, known for its uncompromising commitment to design, performance, and innovation. The company was founded by David King and two friends, and their first vessel—Project 31—quickly captured the attention of boating enthusiasts across the UK. That modest beginning laid the groundwork for a global brand that today represents British marine engineering at its finest.

Over the years, Princess Yachts has continually evolved while remaining true to its founding values. From the sleek and sporty V Class to the elegant F Class flybridge models and the expansive X Class superyachts, the brand has consistently introduced segment-defining designs. Today, Princess operates from a state-of-the-art facility in Plymouth, employing over 3,000 people and exporting yachts to more than 65 countries. This growth reflects a balance of heritage craftsmanship with forward-thinking technology, keeping Princess at the forefront of luxury marine innovation.

To mark its 60th anniversary, Princess has launched a special edition of one of its most iconic models—the V40. The 60th Anniversary Edition V40 features a refreshed exterior profile, a unique vignetted hull graphic, and a ’60 years’ emblem integrated throughout the design. Customizable canopy flashes and color-matched upholstery enhance the sense of exclusivity, while a bespoke three-spoke steering wheel and embroidered helm seat add elegant finishing touches. It’s a celebration not just of a model, but of a legacy built on precision, luxury, and style.

The company is also engaging clients, dealers, and yacht enthusiasts worldwide through a year-long celebration that includes exclusive events, brand storytelling campaigns, and international showcases. One of the major highlights of the year is the British Motor Yacht Show, where Princess Motor Yacht Sales will display the V40 60th Anniversary Edition alongside several new and flagship models, such as the all-new F58, the innovative Y72, and the dynamic S65. These appearances provide a unique opportunity for the public and press to experience firsthand the quality and evolution of Princess Yachts.

Throughout 2025, Princess is emphasizing not just its past, but its vision for the future. With sustainability becoming an increasingly important focus in the yachting industry, Princess continues to invest in research and development that aims to reduce environmental impact. Recent efforts have included hybrid propulsion trials and new hull designs aimed at improving efficiency and reducing emissions. As the company looks ahead, its leadership remains committed to blending timeless design with responsible innovation—ensuring that Princess continues to define the future of luxury yachting.

CEO Will Green reflected on the milestone by saying, “Reaching our 60th anniversary is a momentous achievement that fills us with immense pride. It’s a testament to the enduring commitment of our talented team—past and present—and the loyalty of our clients around the world. This is not just about reflecting on our rich history of craftsmanship and innovation, though. It is as much about looking forward to the next 60 years and ensuring we continue to deliver exciting, segment-defining products with that distinctive, unparalleled Princess luxury.” His words underscore the company’s dual focus on honoring its heritage while shaping what’s next.

As Princess Yachts embarks on this celebratory year, the brand remains a symbol of British luxury and engineering. From the first sketch of Project 31 to the digitally designed hulls of today’s superyachts, the Princess story is one of passion, precision, and progress. Whether you’re stepping aboard a classic model or experiencing a next-generation flagship, the spirit of Princess Yachts endures: one of excellence without compromise. And as the company looks ahead to the decades to come, its legacy is as vibrant and ambitious as ever.

Princess Yachts S80 Reviewed https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/princess-yachts-s80-reviewed/ Fri, 21 Mar 2025 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=68981 The sporty 35-knot Princess Yachts S80 has sleek lines, MAN diesels, and superyacht livability.

The sports-bridge or sports-fly yacht genre didn’t really exist 20 years ago. Back then, most 65- to 85-foot planing motoryachts with two decks were classified as express cruisers or flybridge yachts.

But evolution is a relentless tide. Flybridge models have steadily grown in volume. They have sprouted hardtops and become semi- or completely enclosed. Coupe styles have sun pads on their superstructures, along with proper stairs, lower helm stations, dinettes and wet bars. Today, an 80-foot sports-fly is likely to have amenities similar to a 20-year-old flybridge design, especially with today’s wider beams and lack of tender cranes on the upper deck.

The Princess Yachts S80 is a feature-packed example of the modern standard, putting its own spin on the same lower-deck platform as the British builder’s Y80 flybridge yacht and X80 trideck. Commonalities among the three models include the hull and powertrain, as well as four en suite staterooms and crew space. The big difference is the superstructure.

Princess Yachts S80
The foredeck seating converts to sun pads. Courtesy Princess Yachts

In profile with the S80, most people would hardly notice an upper deck at all. The only clues are the low windscreen forward of the helm and the swept-back arch mast. Nevertheless, five of the first seven owners specified their S80s with the hardtop option. Trading a low, sleek profile for weather protection is never going to be a wrong decision.

My time on board the S80 involved cruising to Villefranche-sur-Mer, a resort town near Nice, France. I had been aboard the S80 previously during its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival, where the yacht didn’t seem particularly huge amid the other larger boats. But context is important. At that show, an 80-footer is not far off the average length of the yachts on display. In Villefranche’s high-walled harbor, which is packed with 35- to 65-footers, the S80 looked like a tanker in a duck pond.

I stepped from the dock onto the swim platform and then bounded up the steps into the cockpit, where I felt instantly at home. This model is conceived for outdoor living. The cockpit has aft-deck doors set farther forward than on the X80 and Y80—and it has bulwarks and deep, glazed buttresses off the after edge of the superstructure, as well as a substantial top-deck overhang. All of it makes this area on the S80 feel like a much more intimate space, in a good way.

Princess Yachts S80

A central gate and walkway are between two sun pads at the transom, along with a pair of two-seat sofas. Farther forward is alfresco dining. The galley is just inside the aft-deck doors, with a lift-up window above a stowage unit. With everything open, the space combines with the interior’s picture windows along each side of the superstructure to bring in natural light.

Most of the main deck aft is for swimming, sunbathing, dining and lounging. The bridge is up two steps from the salon, beneath the raked-aft windshield. There’s a corner booth to port and a side-deck door to starboard, along with a twin-seat helm that is standard. A third seat is an option, with more seating and lounge spaces outside.

On the foredeck, which could host a party, two C-shaped booths convert to sun pads. The upper deck has its own booth seating and sun pads, as well as a wet bar. Most of the onboard dining is likely to be alfresco, but there’s room for a dining table just inside the aft-deck cockpit doors. All the lounge furniture inside and outside is low and deep, set amid nicely detailed wood throughout and not just veneers.

Princess Yachts S80
Even with a flybridge, the S80 has space for a sunrooof over the lower helm. Courtesy Princess Yachts

Lower-deck accommodations consist of four en suite staterooms accessed from a half-spiral staircase to port, descending from the salon. The full-beam owner’s stateroom is amidships and aft with a forward-facing super-king berth, a sofa to starboard, and a vanity/desk to port. Windows flanking the stateroom allow for broad views. An en suite is to starboard with a walk-in closet to port, buffering the stateroom from machinery noise.

The forepeak VIP has an aft-facing king berth. Its shower stall and head are on each side of a doorway. Between the owner’s stateroom and the VIP are a double-berth stateroom to starboard and a twin/double stateroom to port.

A crew cabin for two is tucked into the port side of the transom with a discreet entrance from the swim platform. That twin-bunk space has a head-shower compartment and serves as the yacht’s laundry, with the primary access door to the engine room. The starboard side of the transom has a tender garage big enough for a Williams SportJet 435. By comparison, the X80 and Y80 each have room for three crew, but no tender garage.

Princess Yachts S80

Princess has always built solid, reliable boats with exemplary seakeeping. The S80 is no different. Ergonomics at the lower and upper helms are close to perfect. The lower helm also has an opening sunroof just above the two-piece windshield.

Standard propulsion is twin 2,000 hp MAN V-12 diesels and straight-shaft gearboxes. Princess quotes a full-load top speed of 31 to 33 knots. The S80 that I got aboard was at a little above half-load and topped out at about 35 knots. Owners who want a bit more thrust to go with those sporty lines will soon be able to order the S80 with MAN V-12 2200s, producing around 37 knots. Princess says the latest two of the seven hulls sold so far will have the bigger engines.

The S80’s fuel capacity is 1,717 gallons, and optional long-range tanks will take that to 2,325 gallons. The S80 that I got aboard had the latter and theoretically could run for 1,500 nautical miles at 10 knots, with a fuel burn of around 2 gallons per nautical mile. At a fast 24-knot cruise, the fuel burn would be a little more than 5 gallons per nautical mile for a respectable 440 to 450 nm range.

Princess Yachts S80

With the S80, Princess Yachts takes an efficient running surface and smart accommodations, then adds a superstructure for owners who appreciate the look of an express cruiser, all of it with the entertaining spaces of a flybridge yacht. It’s truly the best of many worlds.

Built In-House

Princess is uncommon for building about 80 percent of each yacht in-house. The shipyard does its own lamination work, joinery, upholstery, stainless-steel work, tank fabrications and electrical harnesses for about 180 yachts per year. The S80 is built at Princess’ main Newport Street yard in Plymouth, UK.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer

We didn’t have to worry about going aground off the resort town of Villefranche-sur-Mer, which is east of Nice, France. The bay is one of the deepest natural harbors in the Mediterranean—a popular anchorage to escape nasty weather. The US Navy’s Sixth Fleet often moors here. It’s about 320 feet deep, with a drop into a 1,700-foot-deep abyss less than a mile to the south.

Chill Out

The S80 I was aboard had the upgraded 144,000 Btu chilled-water air-conditioning system that Princess advertises for cruising in warmer locales to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. This hull also has strainers with UV treatment. In a first for Princess, there’s a split-air AC setup for the cockpit, which can also be enclosed with transparent screens.

Guests stepped aboard our seven-yacht lineup, which featured the highly anticipated U.S. premiere of the elegant Princess Y80 and the show debut of the striking new Princess S65. We were delighted to welcome visitors to Palm Beach to explore the world of Princess Yachts luxury.

Princess Y80

As I stepped out of the blazing Palm Beach, Florida, sun into the cool, airy main deck of the Princess Yachts Y80, I was immediately impressed by the bright, open and inviting feel of the interior. There’s nearly 7-foot headroom, and the windows span almost from the deck to the overhead, enabling a cascade of natural light to enter the space. Indeed, this is a vessel equally suited to a family cavorting throughout the Caribbean in wet bathing suits or couples cruising the Mediterranean en route to Saint-Tropez or Porto Cervo with a professional crew.

This past July, Princess Yachts America’s Summer Owners Holiday returned to beautiful Block Island at the incredible Champlin’s Resort and Marina. The event marked the 23rd Owners Holiday since Princess Yachts America began hosting them twice annually in 2012 and was the largest gathering of Princess owners in the Northeast to date, with more than 40 Princess Yachts in attendance and a group of owners, guests, staff, dealers, and vendors totaling more than 300 attendees.

After navigating into Block Island’s Great Salt Pond and getting settled with the help of Champlin’s fantastic marina staff, owners and guests were greeted with a pitcherful of the resort’s famous frozen mudslides and a gift bag of custom Princess branded goodies to help them get settled for the long weekend. The Welcome In celebration hosted at the historic Spring House featured plenty of hors d’oeuvres and cocktails followed by dinner and dancing, with an unbeatable view.

A full breakfast buffet was in order to fuel up everyone for a busy second day that offered a variety of activities, including a creative floral design class, guided scooter and bike tours of the island, and capped off with a pool party featuring a traditional all-American picnic-style cookout. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day was the inaugural running of the Knot So Royal Regatta, where a special royal guest challenged the Princess family of owners to put their boatbuilding (and racing) skills to the test. In true Princess Owners Holiday fashion, this was no ordinary cardboard regatta, and fame, fortune, and royal recognition awaited our champions with prizes awarded for best design, most spectacular sinking, and the overall winner of the race. Without a doubt, a fantastic and memorable time was enjoyed by both the participating teams and spectators.

Day 3 of the event included a competitive pickleball tournament, an opportunity to visit the local farmers market and explore the bustling main street area of the island, and a chance to compete in the ever-popular egg-toss competition. The day was capped off with an all-inclusive traditional lobster boil at Champlin’s, overlooking the marina, with live music and dancing carrying on late into the evening. Early on the event’s final morning, as guests prepared to depart the marina, the famous singing baker from Aldo’s Bakery serenaded the fleet as he made his way around the marina in a launch filled with baskets of delicious fresh-baked pastries to keep the Princess owners and guests well-fed with a taste of Block Island’s finest treats for the journey home.

The Sweet Spot https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/sponsored-post/princess-f58-the-sweet-spot/ Fri, 31 May 2024 16:30:09 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=64377 Unveiling a new F58 model, Princess Yachts brings that “just right” element to its popular F Class series of flybridge motoryachts.

The post The Sweet Spot appeared first on Yachting.

Princess Yachts F58
Princess Yachts’ new F58 model combines many of the highlights of their larger models with the benefits of a compact size. Princess Yachts America

On the first day of the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show, Princess Yachts announced a new model in its F Class range of flybridge motoryachts. Borrowing features from its larger sister and Princess cousins, the new F58 not only sits in the proverbial sweet spot of the F Class, which spans 45 to 65 feet, but also capitalizes on the amenities, evolved styling and next-generation features found throughout the Princess line.

“A flybridge boat of this size is a critical offering for us,” says James Nobel, VP and marketing director for Princess Yachts America. “While customer demand has trended toward our larger offerings in recent years, this year we are seeing more of a mix, with many buyers coming in at the 50- to 60-foot range.”

Princess Yachts has offered several variations of boats in this size range over the lifespan of the F Class, but the F58 hits the “sweet spot,” according to Nobel. Nestled between the F55 and the F65, the new F58 offers a voluminous design that blends many features of the 55 with amenities from the 65 into one enviable package.

“We have clients who love everything in the F65 but can’t have a boat that big; perhaps their marina has a restriction on size,” Nobel says. “Then we have the clients who want just a little bit more volume than the F55. The F58 borrows from the F65 and from other models across our lines.”

Style and Space

What sets the F58 apart in a lineup that includes the F45, F50, F55, F58 and F65? We’ll start with the exterior, which can be summed up in two words: style and space. In its profile, the F58 sports the evolved exterior lines of the newer Princess models, such as the Y72, with a large single-pane side window that wraps around the upper structure. “It’s a style evolution, not a revolution,” Nobel says. Like the F55, the F58 offers the option of a built-in hardtop or an open bridge with an electric or fixed Bimini top.

The Princess F Class wouldn’t be the coveted flybridge class without plentiful deck areas, and the new F58 does not disappoint. The spacious flybridge itself sees the fully equipped wet bar with an electric barbecue situated aft so as to keep the chef close to the action and create more open deck space. Bordered by companion seating and a sumptuous convertible settee to starboard, a centrally positioned helm allows for excellent visibility.

On the foredeck, the F58 boasts a new style borrowed from the forward lounge design of the Y80, with two multifunctional sun beds with adjustable headrests and storage, as well as a walk-through to the bow. This space can be further augmented with sun awnings and a cool box, creating a private terrace akin to that enjoyed by larger yachts.

The enhanced volume of the F58’s design is most readily apparent in the cockpit area, which seamlessly integrates with the salon and aft galley, creating an inviting alfresco space that flows to the swim platform and mini beach club transom area—yet another unique feature of this new model. Here, clients have a variety of options to fit out their mini open-air beach club, such as a waterside barbecue with a sink or a dedicated storage area for SeaBobs, dive gear and other water toys. A fold-down transom seat rounds out this perfect spot to enjoy a day of watersports.

Two distinguishing features not immediately apparent in the F58’s styling make a big impact on the lifestyle the F58 offers on the water. The first occurs below the waterline, where a larger engine package of twin MAN V-8 1,000 hp or 1,200 hp diesels (depending on the option selected) propel the 59-foot-8-inch beauty to a maximum speed of 31 and 34 knots, respectively. Second, the F58 is the first sub-80-foot model from Princess to offer sustainable battery-powered silent running or hotel services as an option.

Turn up the Volume

That leads us to the interior, which can be summed up with the word “volume.” Maintaining the popular aft-galley arrangement seen on the F55, the increased volume of the F58 allows for a separate L-shaped sofa and coffee table/dinette aft and a larger U-shaped sofa forward, effectively creating two separate spaces for dining and lounging. The aforementioned panoramic windows bathe the interior in natural light, highlighting the signature Princess craftsmanship and the contemporary yet timeless design of this new model. As with all Princess models, F58 clients can select their preferred woods, countertops, flooring and interior soft goods.

The F58 offers a three-stateroom, two en suite layout; however, the increased interior volume here allows for a full-beam master suite with a walk-in closet and a three-quarter-beam en suite just aft of the master bed—more “big boat” features. The VIP is positioned forward, and a twin to starboard can be converted into a third double. And while the F58 is designed for efficient owner operation, it does offer the option of a single crew cabin with an en suite and storage aft.

A Home Run

It’s obvious that the F58 does a fantastic job of compiling so many features from the larger Princess yachts into its layout while still maintaining its efficiency as an owner-operator boat. How does it compete with the F55? These are two very distinct models, Nobel explains.

“The F55 remains a very strong model both in the U.S. and in Central America,” Nobel states. “But there is a tremendous amount of interest in the F58, and it will be interesting to see the market’s response. It is a bigger step up dollar-wise, size-wise and volume-wise. It has a bigger engine package and many entertainment features you won’t find on smaller models. As with everything we do, when you have a successful model, you want to maintain the positives and evolve it to the next level.

“We feel the F58 will be a home run,” he says. “Most of our customers are owner operators, couples with young families or grandparents with grandkids who visit. The F58 is very manageable for two people. It’s the sweet spot for us depending on where we are reaching clients in their lifetime.”

With substantial fuel capacity upgrades, adventurers can traverse further, embracing the great outdoors.

Outdoor living spaces are maximized in the cockpit and bathing platform, reminiscent of larger vessels, with practical access and an elongated canopy for shaded comfort. The closed deck model features a climate-controlled deck saloon, integrating a U-shaped dining area and concealed television, ensuring optimal relaxation and entertainment.

Below deck, a luminous galley and spacious seating area offer the option of conversion to a third cabin, ensuring comfort and versatility. Two exquisitely appointed cabins bathe in natural light, with a full-beam owner’s stateroom amidships, providing a private retreat. Embodying the spirit of year-round cruising, the all-new Princess V50 is a paragon of innovation and luxury in the realm of 50-foot sports yachts.

Princess F58
With a sophisticated aesthetic and attention to detail, the Princess F58 is poised to be a popular choice in the F-Class series. Princess Yachts

The Princess F58 joins the acclaimed F-Class fleet, positioned between the existing F55 and the flagship F65. This latest model continues the series’ tradition of blending elegant design with advanced features, tailored for the luxury boating market.

A key focus of the F58 is its social spaces. The flybridge offers ample room for dining and relaxation, featuring a well-equipped wet bar and electric barbecue. The helm provides comprehensive visibility for piloting and includes an additional seat for a guest or crew member. Additionally, the seating area can be easily converted into a sunpad for those looking to enjoy the sun.  Options for the flybridge include a hardtop, with available opening center section, or a hydraulically retractable bimini top for shade.

The yacht’s deck is not limited to the flybridge; the foredeck includes a flexible ‘terrace’ area, inspired by larger Princess models. It has sunpads and optional amenities like a cool box, providing a comfortable space for entertainment or relaxation.

In the cockpit, the design emphasizes spaciousness and connection, leading into the saloon and galley which merge seamlessly with the outdoor area. The saloon is bright, thanks to panoramic windows, and houses a U-shaped sofa and a convertible coffee/dining table, positioning this area as the social hub of the yacht.

Below deck, the F58’s layout includes three cabins: a forward VIP guest cabin, a convertible twin cabin, and a full-beam owner’s stateroom. The stateroom boasts a luxury ensuite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. An optional crew cabin with ensuite and storage can also be included in the design.

With a sophisticated aesthetic and attention to detail, the Princess F58 is poised to be a popular choice in the F-Class series. The first unit is expected to go into production later this year and will make its debut in early 2025. The F58 represents a balance of luxury and functionality, making it a fitting addition to the Princess Yachts’ portfolio.
