Beyond the sleek profile is a stout, resin-infused hull with a watertight collision bulkhead forward. Courtesy Riviera

Australia is a tough country, facing four seas with a coastline that offers few protections. Yachts arriving Stateside from Down Under tend to be just as tough as the conditions. The Riviera 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition is certainly tough, but it also has a luxurious side that surprised me, if only because it’s hard to say tough and luxurious in the same sentence.

Luxury is not just about posh seating; it’s also about subtle touches of class. All the high-gloss walnut woodwork is book-matched, so the grain flows seamlessly across locker doors and drawers. All the towel racks are heated, like in five-star hotels. The bolstered helm seats are from Italy, clearly nicked from a Lamborghini. A niche is inset into the bulkhead of the owner’s suite for a coffee maker, so the boss can reach for morning espresso without having to move.

The 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition is available with three or four staterooms. The hull that I got aboard had four, along with three heads. I prefer the four-stateroom layout because you get the extra stateroom instead of a couch in the lower foyer, and why would you not enjoy the spectacular view from the salon? A fourth stateroom also gives everyone extra stowage if it’s not being used.

With a focus on entertaining, the cockpit has an aft bench seat, a settee, a grill, fridges and an ice maker. Courtesy Riviera

In layout, this yacht is clearly set up for entertaining. The cockpit has the traditional bench-seat arrangement aft, but a surprise is an L-shaped settee tucked in the port corner with a dining table for alfresco meals. Opposite are an oversize grill, two fridges, a sink and an ice maker.

Open the salon door, push a button to raise the window by the galley, and you are still as open as the Australian Outback. The U-shaped galley is to port, with Miele appliances and acres of counter space. Chef’s touches include a three-element induction cooktop, a dishwasher and instant hot water. I’m clumsy in the kitchen, so I appreciated the splash rail forward (to protect the dinette upholstery) and the canal surrounding each counter (to contain my spills from dribbling to the sole).

Opposite the galley is a full-height fridge backed up with two fridge drawers, plus a bar area with a wine chiller for a dozen Australian Penfolds chardonnays. Just forward is a wraparound settee with a beautifully built teak dining table, and opposite is a smaller couch facing the 65-inch pop-up TV for end-of-day relaxation.

The “pilothouse” is clever, since the usual companion bench seat opposite the helm is reimagined as an L-shaped settee, allowing guests to face the helm or look through the twin windshields. The helm is black carbon fiber (no windshield reflections) with triple 19-inch Garmin multifunction displays for navigation and systems. Just abaft the helm seat is a pantograph door to the side deck, and overhead is an electric moonroof with shades. The skipper has the Volvo Penta joystick controls for docking and position holding, with a Side-Power bow thruster and Humphree Interceptor trim tabs.

The companionway to the lower level has sturdy handrails, and the owner’s suite spans the full beam aft with a king-size walk-around berth. This is truly a serene getaway with oversize windows on each side and high-gloss walnut all around. A couch is to port, while the bureau to starboard is topped by a fold-up vanity with a mirror. Riviera gets points for the full-height cedar-lined lockers, so dresses and slacks won’t get rumpled. The en suite head has dual sinks with Euro faucets, and an oversize shower with shelves for toiletries.

Forward, the VIP stateroom has sizable windows and a walk-around queen berth. The en suite head sports a shower and doubles as the day head with access from the hallway. Two staterooms are off the companionway, with the one to port having direct entry to the day head. That stateroom has twin berths that slide together into a double, while the starboard stateroom has crossover singles.

Riviera 6800 SY Platinum Edition

A bonus cabin off the engine room can be fitted out for crew (or a teenager) with a single berth, a head and a mini galley. Alternatively, it can be used as a utility and laundry space with a workbench and separate washer/dryer.

Speaking of the engine room, it has more than 6-foot-6-inch headroom. Walk-around space is good on each side of the 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350 pod-drive diesels. The 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition that I got aboard also had twin Onan gensets: the primary at 29 kilowatts and a 13.5-kilowatt secondary unit, with full access to each. A mix of lithium (house) and low-maintenance (cranking) batteries are fed by a 3,000-watt inverter/charger. Humphree zero-speed stabilizer fins are optional.

As you’d expect from a boat that faces the Coral Sea en route to the Great Barrier Reef, construction is, as the Aussies say, “bonzer.” The entire yacht—hull and house—is infused isophthalic resin with independent compartments, including a foam-filled bow section with a watertight collision bulkhead.

Riviera 6800 SY Platinum Edition
The foredeck lounge seating is adjustable to face fore or aft, and to be raised or flat. Courtesy Riviera

Underway, this sport yacht exudes sturdiness. Even with a lumpy mishmash in the Gulf Stream, the 6800 jumped on plane flat and fast, and then didn’t seem to notice the leftover swells from a recent nor’easter. Nothing seemed to intrude on the implacable ride. We topped out at around 33 knots with full tanks. A 25-knot cruise is a delight with 40-plus tons of yacht.

For entertaining on open water or in any port of call, this yacht impresses. Whether an owner wants rugged thunder from Down Under or a luxuriously appointed Sheila (that’s Aussie for a beautiful woman), the Riviera 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition should be on the short list.

Anchored Delight

The foredeck is an entertainment space with L-shaped seating, twin tables, and double-hinged sun pads that morph into fore- or aft-facing chaises, all covered by a removable awning.

Water Toys

The transom opens to reveal a garage for a 12-foot-7-inch tender with a dedicated launch system, plus space for underwater scooters and dive tanks.

No Tripping

A thoughtful touch is the teak insert in the nonslip whenever there is a step on the deck, so guests can’t overlook the height change and stumble.

Safety First

The 18- to 20-inch side decks are protected by 39-inch rail-topped coamings for secure passage fore and aft.

Riviera will debut its 72 Sports Motor Yacht Series II stateside at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October.

The new model represents an evolution of the original 72 Sports Motor Yacht launched in 2018, incorporating technological advances and design refinements based on owner feedback.

“When we launched the 72 Sports Motor Yacht in 2018, it answered the demand for a luxurious, long-range motor yacht that excelled in all water sports,” stated Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst in a press release. “Over that time, technology has advanced allowing us to incorporate proven innovations across our range.”

The Series II has a reimagined exterior and interior with what the company describes as a “holistic refinement approach.” One thing that remains the same from its predecessor is a robust build and bluewater capabilities.

Boarding via the hydraulic swim platform, guests enter the cockpit via port or starboard transom doors that can lock flush when at anchor, effectively expanding the entertainment area. The cockpit includes a BBQ, wet bar and an insulated freezer.

One innovation on the Series II is an articulating swim platform that transforms into steps and is adjustable for different heights.

The alfresco deck serves as the yacht’s social center, offering protection from the elements while increasing the salon-level living area by one-third. It has high-gloss teak cabinets with twin drawer refrigerators.

An aft U-shaped galley comes equipped with an induction cooktop, oven/microwave, dishwasher and programmable refrigeration/freezer units. The salon includes L-shaped dining and a folding table. Electric blinds create privacy when desired.

The cockpit layout includes L-shaped lounges with tables and the foredeck accommodates a tender with a low-profile davit, but converts to an eight-person entertainment space with fold-away lounge seating, tables and an optional awning.

Riviera 72

An enclosed flybridge, accessible via stairs from the salon, has lounge seating, LED TV, fold-out berth for guests and access to an aft deck that can be enclosed as well.

This 72-footer’s helm setup includes touchscreen displays with outstanding visibility through a curved glass windscreen. Options include a third helm chair and the Twin Disc Express Positioning System for precise station-keeping in varying conditions.

Owners can choose from a four-stateroom Classic layout or three-stateroom Presidential design. Both versions have a full-beam owners’ stateroom with king berth.

A separate crew cabin with private access from the alfresco deck can also serve as a utility room for watersports gear. The yacht also has a laundry space with separate washer and dryer.

Power options include twin 1,800 hp or 2,000 hp V-12 MAN diesels.

The Riviera 72 Sports Motor Yacht Series II will be at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at the Bahia Mar Yachting Centre, C Dock – Green Zone, starting October 29.

Riviera’s sport yacht collection flagship, the 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition, had its American premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. A combination of design elements make the 6800 equally suited for long-distance passages, weekend cruises and dayboating.

The Australian-based builder, whose range of yachts spans 39 to 78 feet length overall, was aiming for a fun entertainment platform when it designed the 6800. The result is a stylish cruiser with a variety of entertainment spaces, from the swim platform to the bow lounge.

Riviera 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition
The cockpit and salon can go from two spaces to one, including two dining areas, by sliding the salon door open and lowering the electric galley window with the push of a button. Courtesy Riviera

Despite its considerable volume, this yacht looks long and low. The nearly 73-foot yacht underwent three years of development and is a collaboration between Riviera’s design group and the award-winning superyacht designer Luca Vallebona.

Riviera 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition
Owners and their guests can travel to and from the foredeck worry-free thanks to the wide side decks with handrails flanking the main deck—a nice feature for owner-operators. Courtesy Riviera

The broad strokes of the main deck’s interior are simple. The galley-aft layout reinforces the yacht’s entertainment-friendly sensibility by serving the cockpit and salon. The galley is equipped with a three-element induction cooktop, a combination oven with an integrated grill, a range hood, a double sink, a microwave and a dishwasher.

Owners can select from a variety of custom options on board, including Starlink high-speed internet, Praxis solar charging systems, and factory-fitted stabilization—gyroscopic or fin-based. Owners also can opt for a personalized laundry room or a crew cabin, if they’d prefer to have a captain or mate.

Owners can choose a three- or four-stateroom layout on the Riviera 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition. The full-beam en suite master stateroom (shown above) is amidships in both variations with a king-size berth. Courtesy Riviera

Performance is never overlooked on a Riviera, which has to account for the rough waters off the coast of Australia. The 6800’s powerplant package is twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350 diesels, which give it a reported 32-knot top hop. The 6800 has a 27-knot fast cruise, at which owners can expect a 450-nautical-mile range. Pulling back on the speed to 10 knots drops the fuel burn below 1 gallon per nautical mile and increases the range to more than 1,100 nm. The yacht’s full-height engine room can be accessed via the transom door or through the master stateroom for daily maintenance checks.

With three or four staterooms, Riviera’s 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition is a yacht built for cruising couples and families who want to welcome friends, have strong performance and relax in onboard comfort.

“As with most things in life, Riviera’s boats are a true product of their environment. The 5400 Sport Yacht possesses a certain blend of glamorous luxury and steadfast sturdiness,” Yachting previously wrote.

Allied Marine currently has Jake’s Way, a 2017 Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht, listed just shy of $1.1 million. The 54-foot express cruiser has a three-stateroom layout that sleeps up to six and 33-knot speed.

Jake’s Way is a great example of the popular Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Series and is being offered for sale by her second, caring owner,” says Allied Marine.

The salon features a main-deck galley-aft layout which emphasizes the build’s focus on an entertainment-friendly design. Amenities like the walnut joinery throughout, the laminate sole and vinyl overhead with recessed lighting help create an inviting atmosphere. Seating includes an L-shaped dinette to port, two stools forward of the galley countertops and an L-shaped companion settee adjacent to the helm station. The galley’s meal-prep amenities include:

Exterior entertainment and social areas on board the 5400 Sport Yacht include the sun pad on the foredeck and an alfresco dining space in the cockpit. An L-shaped dinette sits forward to starboard while a grill station is positioned to port and a transom bench seat is aft. Most of the cockpit is covered by the awning above.

Jake’s Way is outfitted with the optional twin 725 hp Volvo D11 IPS950 diesels, which is the same setup Yachting originally tested.

“The boat’s cruise speed is 23 knots (and 2,100 rpm). At that speed, the optional twin Volvo Penta IPS950s burn a respectable 51 gph, a number that should help keep you from experiencing too much undue pain at the pump,” Yachting previously reported. “With the hammer down, I coaxed the boat up to 33.1 knots.”

Espiritu is a 2018 Riviera 54 Belize Daybridge currently listed with Galati Yacht Sales for $1.249 million. The 54-foot flybridge cruiser has a three-stateroom layout and a number of entertainment amenities, inside and out.

“This 2018 Riviera Belize 54 Daybridge commands attention with its unique retro styling, it was designed and built with the sophisticated yachtsman in mind,” says Galati Yacht Sales. “If you are looking for a yacht that is unique, classic, rugged and pleasing to the eye that will stand the test of time, look no further than the Riviera Belize series.”

Riviera 54 Belize Daybridge
The Riviera can transform the aft section of the main deck, creating clear sightlines from the cockpit’s transom bench seat to the wheelhouse forward. Courtesy Galati Yacht Sales

Espiritu is a fine example of a 54 [Daybridge]. It has been very well maintained, gently run and all services have been done on a regular schedule, including engines, generator, bottom cleaning, and detailing. This is a fantastic, uncommon opportunity to get into a very distinctive boat without the wait.”

The main deck layout for the Belize 54 maximizes every inch of space with the salon and galley sharing the space amidships. Riviera avoids this space feeling cramped by building the aft door to open along with the window over the bar that separates the galley from the cockpit, in turn creating one larger, open-air alfresco space. The main deck interior features solid teak flooring throughout. The lounge seating is an L-shaped settee and fixed table to starboard, which doubles as the interior dining.

Serving and entertaining guests is made easy with Espiritu’s main deck galley aft layout. The 54-footer’s galley has an array of meal-prep appliances which include a stainless-steel sink, a Miele three-burner cooktop, a Miele combo microwave and convection oven, a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, and two Vitrifrigo pull-out refrigerator and freezer drawers.

The cockpit is shaded thanks to the awning above and there’s room for six to enjoy alfresco dining at the transom bench seat and fixed table, just pull up a few loose chairs.

Exterior entertainment continues on both the foredeck and the flybridge which have a two-person sun pad and an L-shaped settee respectively.

All three staterooms on Espiritu reside belowdecks. The amidships master stateroom has an en suite head and a queen berth. The forepeak VIP has a double berth and an en suite head while the final guest cabin has over-under berths.

Twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS800 diesels power Espiritu to a reported 33-knot top hop and a 25-knot cruise speed. The engines currently have 1,220 hours on them.

Some other notable features on board Espiritu include:

  • Garmin electronics package
  • Cockpit docking station
  • 2015 Brig Falcon 300 w/ Honda 20 hp outboard
  • Onan EQD single-phase Generator
  • Hydraulic swim platform
  • Washer and dryer
  • Starlink

Australian yacht builder Riviera will introduce its latest model to the North American yachting audience during the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition will be part of Riviera’s 11-model showcase.

Following three years of development, the Riviera design group—in collaboration with superyacht designer Luca Vallebona—have created this series’ flagship. It features well-defined areas for guest enjoyment, from the foredeck to the protected aft deck and salon. The stern has an electro-hydraulic, articulating swim platform that morphs into steps which can be lowered below the water or raised above to match the level of dock or quay, with aft wing doors on either side as well. Snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and fishing enthusiasts will find stowage for watersports gear in the tender garage, and there’s also a tender cradle and electric winch system.

The aft deck is the entertaining and dining center, with an extended hardtop providing all-weather protection. A guest lounge extends across the width of the transom; forward to port is an L-shaped lounge dining area with folding teak table. This area also has an entertainer’s galley with a grill and hotplate, exhaust fan, two drawer fridges, an ice maker, stainless-steel sink with a mixer and solid-surface benchtop. An LED TV folds down from the hardtop.

The galley window lowers with the push of a button to connect the salon and aft deck. The U-shaped galley is outfitted with all the requisite meal-prep appliances and stowage for extended cruising. Forward of the galley to port is a U-shaped lounge with matching ottomans, along with a handcrafted solid-wood table that folds out from the lounge for dining inside. The salon also has a very practical starboard door for foredeck access to tend to mooring lines when short-handed cruising.

The 6800 Platinum Edition has  four staterooms and three heads belowdecks, plus a utility/crew cabin. The full-beam master has a walkaround king-size berth while the VIP forward has a queen berth. The portside guest stateroom has twin berths that slide together for a single berth  while the starboard guest stateroom adds two adult-sized single berths overlapping at 90 degrees. This can also be laid out as a media room to entertain young children. Finally, there are crew quarters which can also be used for laundry or utility as needed.

Access to the full-height engine room is via a watertight door from the utility cabin aft of the master stateroom, or through a lift-up door on the transom. Standard power is twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1350s.

Riviera, the Australian luxury motor yacht builder, reached a historic milestone Monday, launching its 6000th motor yacht.

The Iridium silver-hulled 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition will be delivered to repeat Riviera yacht owners Peter and Denise Haig in Sydney, the company said in a news release. The couple has owned 10 Riviera yachts since purchasing their first in 1988, a 38 Open Flybridge.

Haig touted Riviera’s success in the release, saying that maintaining the company’s Australian roots was a source of pride.

“One of the most important points for me is that Riviera is totally Australian. We are proud that we own a world-class motor yacht that has been designed and built by brilliant and dedicated local craftspeople,” he said.

Riviera has a team of 950 craftspeople building about 150 yachts per year. Sixty percent of the builders’ vessels are exported globally. Courtesy Riviera

Riviera was founded in Sydney in 1980 before moving to Labrador on Queensland’s Gold Coast in 1981. The company later moved to Coomera. Where it opened the largest of its kind facility in the Southern Hemisphere.

In its first year, the company built eight yachts. Now, Riviera creates around 150 per year, more than 60 percent of which are exported around the world.

Riviera has built more than 800 sport yachts since launching the 3600 model in 2005, owner Rodney Longhurst said in the release. The company launched the Sport Yacht Platinum Edition in 2019. More than 230 of this exclusive edition have been launched since.

“This historic event reinforces Riviera’s reputation as one of the most sought-after motor yachts in the world,” Longhurst said. “To be successful on the highly competitive global stage of luxury boat building, you must have an absolute commitment to design, quality and owner care.”

“I couldn’t be more proud of our team, and I am grateful to all the Riviera owners around the world who not only enjoy our yachts themselves but share this wonderful experience with their family and friends.”

Riviera 585 SUV Reviewed https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/riviera-585-suv-reviewed/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 19:00:11 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=63242 Riviera's 585 SUV is a luxurious design with IPS diesels, 32-knot performance, stout construction and multifunctional spaces.

The post Riviera 585 SUV Reviewed appeared first on Yachting.

The short and very sweet story of the Riviera 585 SUV is that it blends spirited 32-plus-knot performance with a luxurious alfresco lifestyle.

From the raised, enclosable “alfresco deck” overlooking the cockpit to the forward helm, everything is on a single level, yet headroom in the four staterooms belowdecks is more than 6 feet, 5 inches. That is an admirable engineering feat. Another one is the engine room. The twin 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200 D13 diesels with pod drives are so well-separated that two technicians could pass each other in the center aisle with 5-foot-11-inch headroom and still get to the outboard sides. And this is on a secure, rubbery nonslip surface. From the fuel strainers to the sea chests, 27.5 kW Onan genset and triple Dometic air-conditioning units, everything is easily accessible, with cleanly loomed color-coded wiring and tidy plumbing. The engine room alone will be a sell factor for owner-operators, at whom the 585 SUV is clearly aimed.

Guests will care more about boarding the 585 SUV via the hydraulic swim platform. Port and starboard transom doors open to the teak cockpit, making this a watersports zone. A console that’s partially shielded by the overhanging roof combines the outdoor grilling area with a bait-prep station that has tackle stowage, illustrating the vessel’s SUV moniker.

Overlooking the cockpit is what Riviera calls the alfresco deck, a salon-level mezzanine with a settee that converts to a daybed. It faces an L-shaped dinette with a pair of ottomans. Overhead, a pair of sunroofs adds light and even more fresh air.

Add rails, and the swim platform is a casting platform. Courtesy Riviera Yachts

The bright, walnut-paneled salon is separated from the alfresco deck by a sliding door and an opening window. A U-shaped galley is immediately inside to port, for easy service to the cockpit or the L-shaped dinette opposite. Meal-prep amenities here are notable for the underlit Lucite splash rail forward and the deep gutters surrounding the Corian countertops, as well as tidy, partitioned drawers to nest the glassware and china.

Forward of the galley is a watertight pantograph door to the portside deck for access to the forward entertaining and sunning area. It has seating around a dining table for eight, and hidden lockers for deck gear.

Riviera 585 SUV
Open the door and retract the hardtop, and the salon gets fresh breezes for outdoor living even inside. Courtesy Riviera Yachts

At the helm are a pair of adjustable leather helm seats abaft a low-profile dash with triple Garmin displays. Riviera includes electronic controls for engines and steering, IPS joystick steering, Humphree Interceptor trim tabs, and a Side-Power bow thruster. Opposite the helm is a forward-facing L-shaped raised settee, so guests can enjoy the action underway. Both areas have the sunroof above, and the skipper can have single or dual cockpit control stations hidden out of sight.

Below, the full-beam owners’ stateroom is also about space, with an en suite head, a settee, a desk/vanity, and enough hanging lockers and bureau drawers for extended adventures. With sweeping views through the hullside windows, the queen-size berth has walk-around room on each side. Forward, along the passage, is the VIP stateroom, with another walk-around queen berth and an en suite head with a stall shower. Between the two spaces to port is a guest stateroom with twin berths that electrically slide together into a double. This area has access to the day head with a stall shower across the hall.

For people who aren’t owner-operators or who want to add an occasional captain or mate (or even a teenager wanting privacy), a crew cabin spans the beam abaft the owners’ space. This cabin can be fitted out as a stateroom with a head, or as a utility room off the engine room. The 585 SUV that I got aboard had the head with a single berth and a full-size washer and dryer below.

While the 585 SUV that I put through its paces had IPS1200 Volvo Penta diesels, 1,000 hp IPS1350s are also available; this yacht is far livelier and more responsive than I expected for a 65-footer weighing 35 tons. Spin the wheel, and the 585 SUV acts like a 20-foot bowrider. From a standing stop, this yacht comes up flat, thanks partly to the pod drives and partly to the automatic trim tabs. Running through lumpy Florida seas, the 585 SUV was rock-solid. Riviera designed the V-hull shape to handle the consistently rough seas of Australia.

Riviera 585 SUV
A hydraulic swim platform helps launch water toys. Courtesy Riviera Yachts

At a comfortable 26 knots, the engines consumed just 69 gph, with the salon and helm quiet at 66 decibels (65 is the level of normal conversation). Top speed is a bit more than 32 knots. With the larger engines, expect the top speed to increase by about 3 knots.

SUV stands for sport utility vehicle in the automotive world. In the marine world, the Riviera 585 SUV succeeds as a vessel that is equally ready for families who want to catch dinner, entertain and do some extended cruising, all with a luxurious flair.

Alfresco Deck

This area of the 585 SUV has removable and/or rollable side curtains, which means it can be buttoned up for protection from the elements or left open to the breeze. Air-conditioned or heated, it increases salon space by a third and creates another dining option with its settee and dinette.

Reliable Performance

“At a comfortable 26 knots, the engines consumed just 69 gph, with the salon and helm quiet at 66 decibels (65 decibels is the level of normal conversation). Top speed is a bit more than 32 knots.”

Tight as a Drum

As an island nation surrounded by rough seas, Australia calls for boats with robust construction. Riviera’s hulls are hand-laid fiberglass with solid bottoms and a hull-to-deck joint that is bolted, bonded, and fiberglassed.

Riviera Yachts

Founded in 1980 by yachtsman and offshore powerboat racer Bill Barry-Cotter, Riviera Yachts gained a reputation for sturdy bluewater boats. Shipments to the United States started two years later. The company—now owned by Rodney Longhurst—builds 22 models to 78 feet long, including sport yachts, motoryachts and flybridge yachts.

For Sale: 2017 Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/brokerage/riviera-5400-escapade-for-sale/ Mon, 19 Feb 2024 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=62264 The 2017 Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Escapade for sale just south of $1.2 million.

The Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Escapade combines the Australian builder’s passion for sturdy seakeeping with some deluxe — dare we say European — touches, which was previously reported in Yachting. Escapade is my style of yacht. Not too big, not too small, and easy to navigate as an owner-operator. Based out of Australia, 45 percent of Riviera’s business are Australian citizens who prefer to change their own fuel filters, change their own oil and complete other regular maintenance tasks on their own.

What’s the best spot on Escapade? I prefer the helm. With near-360-degree views and top-notch navigation equipment, the 54-foot Escapade is a dream to handle. Twin 725 hp Volvo Penta diesel engines will quickly propel this yacht to a max speed of 33.1 knots, but 23 knots (about 2,100 rpm) is the most economical cruising speed, burning a respectable 51 gph. If I need to hold the boat in position while a bridge opens, Escapade features the Volvo Penta Dynamic Positioning System, which will hold its station with the touch of a button.

A 17.5 kW Cummins generator provides hotel-load energy when away from the dock and helps power the following systems and technology:

  • Two 17″ Garmin MFD with 7″ Garmin Tied to Ignition Circuit
  • Garmin Sounder Module
  • Garmin Open Array Radar
  • AIS
  • FLIR Thermal Night Vision Camera
  • Cameras to Engine Room, Cockpit Awning, and Anchor
  • LED Underwater Lights
  • Seakeeper 9 Gyrostabilizer
  • Watermaker
  • Siren Marine Tracking and Security System

Riviera says the foredeck sun pad is one of the 5400 Sport Yacht’s biggest selling attributes. Note the flip-up headrests. Yachting stated this is a Euro-style feature on deck, where the sun pad on the bow has enough room for two — or more, depending on how good of friends you are. As trends change with a younger generation entering the yachting market, buyers are looking for more outdoor-centric features such as the sun pad on the bow of Escapade. Load up a few of your friends, lay out and enjoy a cruise to a secluded beach.

If you prefer not to lounge in the direct sunlight, scoot back to the aft deck and salon area. There’s plenty of cushioned seating with an outdoor table, which is all covered to give passengers that outdoor feeling with a breeze, but less direct rays. Step through a sliding glass door into the salon where you will find exquisitely stitched leather, soft upholstery and light, and a satin-finish walnut interior throughout. The salon has plenty of seating, including a plush L-shaped settee to port with table. Don’t want to sit at the table, slide up to the next set of L-shaped upholstered seats, which allow you to sit right beside and enjoy the same views as the captain as you all take in the ocean vistas. Prepare lunch, or just a few snacks in the salon/aft galley without having to climb or descend any stairs. Fold open the rear glass window in the galley, and open the sliding glass door to open up the salon area with the aft deck and enjoy an evening of music and mingling.

Extra amenities on this boat also include:

  • Two Cockpit Joysticks for a Total of Three
  • Tropical Air Conditioning Package
  • Cockpit Speaker Upgrade
  • Drinking Water Purifier in Galley
  • Electric High/Low Salon Table
  • Three Cabin Layout
  • Cockpit Awning
  • Safe in Master Cabin
  • Salon Side Window Covers
  • Cockpit Drop Cover
  • Triangular Quarter Clears in Cockpit
  • Upholstery Upgrade to Cockpit and Bow Cushions
  • Galleyware Package
  • Satin Finish Walnut Interior
  • Electric Capstans for Cockpit Corner Fairleads

Another highlight on Escapade is the full-beam amidships master stateroom with island king berth. A chaise longue to starboard makes for an inviting place to relax, while twin cedar hanging lockers spearhead the stowage efforts — which are quite strong, showing that this boat was built for longer stays and extended voyaging. A VIP queen berth and bunk beds allow plenty of room for four additional soles to comfortably sleep aboard Escapade.

Where is Escapade located? The yacht is currently lying in Stevensville, MD.
